Hair regrets

~Letting a stylist convince me to get a relaxer and "trim" every 4-6 weeks.
~Letting friends and family convince me to constantly "do" something with my hair, meaning too many hot tools too often, instead of my usual pony-bun or plaits.

My momma sent me to a stylist and the lady cut all of my hair off and gave me a jeri curl when I was 10. I hated it! She said my hair was too long and thick. I wish I would have learned how to do my own hair back then. My hair would have been natural and probably bra-strap length as a teenager.:(

This is why I love hair boards :) You know you aren't alone in some of the bad choices you've made. I could list mine, but it would probably be a repeat of every thing listed here.

I regret putting hot curlers in my hair every day.

Also, getting the big chop in 2002 and then not taking care of my hair afterwards.

I regret relaxing every 4-5 weeks.
Self relaxing and not rinsing the relaxer all the way out or deep conditioning.
Not washing my hair between relaxers (ew), so I was constantly curling and flat-ironing dirty hair.
Getting trims with every relaxer.
Blow drying my roots every day
Not moisturizing.
Using pink-oil.
Using that black hair gel.
Blowdrying dripping wet hair
Not finding LHCF sooner!

Letting my stylist cut my shoulder length hair to chin length at the beginning of this year
Not finding this board sooner

Using Super strength relaxer and starting the relaxer in the back which, for me, is where my hair is the most fine and fragile.

Using major heat every single day...I would blow dry my hair every morning and hot curl my ends every night.:nono:
Also I regret wearing my hair out everyday and relaxing every 4-5 weeks:nono:

Getting my natural hair pressed. Went to a salon (2 years ago) and she burned it so bad!--it wouldn't kink back up. (sigh) No heat since then--

Why did I order a Maxiglide this week knowing I'm scared to use IT or anyonther heat on my hair......

I regret getting blonde highlights. So much of my hair fell out over the next few weeks, I was really afraid I was going to be bald. I no longer put color of any type in my hair..

Going to a salon to get my hair done.
Using no-lye relaxers.
Not neutralizing long enough after a relaxer.
Jumping on the MSM bandwagon. MSM meant MORE SKIN MESS for me.

This is me too. My hair was in really good shape right before I had them put in. Now, I cant seem to get my hair health back to the pre-highlight days.:ohwell: Its like those strands are forever damaged, no matter what I do.

The things I regret doing to my hair:

1 ) getting a perm at early age or perm at all for that matter (althought still perming)
2) bond weaves (sorry but glue is not my friend)
3) trying a new weave technique that left notes in my hair
4) great lengths extensions-went in with thick shoulder length hair came with strings.

I have so many hair regrets, let me pic a few

cutting my hair when it was midback and rapidly growing
bleaching my hair several times
transitioning cutting my hair off to go natural only to put a perm back in (2x)
dying my hair every 3 weeks to keep roots from showing
not keeping up my regimen for 2 years
not taking vits consistanly
not doing my nexxus emergence treatments like I know I should

1. Letting so many stylists cut off all my hair because it was "overprocessed" (it wasn't)--that's why my hair has never been below chin length.

2. Microbraids on my extremely fine hair. It broke off my edges horribly. When you're hair is as fine as mine, the braiders tend to make it even tighter so it will hold. I could see where my hair was being pulled out at the roots!!

1) Not stretching long enough
2) Not moisturizing hair was always dry
3) Depending on stylist to take care of my hair
4) Not deep conditioning
5) Not taking care of my ends
6) Not learning about LHCF any sooner:D

So much more than I can mention here
Just glad to have found the site so I can learn to start taking care of my hair
Thanks Ladies!!!!!

1. Telling my stylist to cut my hair in layers, without giving a picture of what I was actually expecting. (Some folks just need a visual)

2. Getting some braids that took 7hrs, and not speaking up about them being to tight. I had little bumps along my hairline in the front because of this. Took 3months for them to go away.

3. Using the revlon home highlighting kit. The box said one color and the color of my hair came out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different.

Yes! Yes! and Yes! I had got to the point where I was cutting Spring then Winter for like 3 years until I changed stylist and started taking control of my hair. :)

Even if you would have brought a picture she probaly still would have jacked it up, so dont even blame yourself. My hair always came out different even with the picture. They just do what they have in their head instead of the pic. :ohwell:

I regret getting my hair pressed last Christmas(05) and it getting burnt in too many places so that I later(July) had to start all over. Went from about 18 in of hair- a lil past shoulder length- to about half an inch.

I'm loving it as it grows out but I still miss my hair

Getting my hair relaxed at a salon (JCP). I had worked for about two years after finding LHCF and had armpit length hair. A few months later I had to cut it up to my ears because of all the damage.
And the kicker is, even though my hair NEVER broke before that, it's been breaking since.:(
