Hair grew the best when?

I was just thinking back to the times when I noticed my hair growing the best and I wanted to start a post where we could all share and learn from each other of the times we noticed the most hair growth and improvement of our hair. For me it was the 6 months I stopped relaxing my hair and of course recently the scalp massages and frequent washing and less trimming. So how about you guys?

Great post! My hair has grown the most since visiting these boards and when I was pregnant.. Before I just never paid enough attention to my hair. But with the deep conditioings, frequent washings, and daily moisturizing my hair has thrived and continues to thrive

My hair grew the best when I finally decided to start strectching out my touch-ups to 15-18 weeks instead of 7-10 weeks. There has been a dramatic difference! Not to mention the deep conditioning and eliminating heat appliances. Oh yeah, vitamins have helped tremendously!

My hair grew the best when I first decided to stop wearing extensions and wash my hair frequently and keep it moisturized and cornrowed.

Now.......

but hopefully once these highlights are gone (either grown out or cut out) I can see my hair get back on track again.

My hair grew the most in 10th grade (sounds weird i know) but I wore cornrows that whole year washed 2x's a month and my hair went from chin length to 2 inches above brastrap in less than one year... and guess what?? It has pretty much stayed that length ever since

The best growth I got was when I was in the Air Force and I was stationed in Missisippi.
I use to shampoo every Sunday evening, oil my scalp with Sulfur8 between the rollers and dry it over night. During the week I had to wear it up off my collar(Air Force regulation)...what we call now 'protective styling'...

I used no heat....
I wish I could sleep comfortably in magnetic rollers now ... I'd save alot of time....

My hair grows the best when I keep it wet. I used to use Don't Be Bald Moisturizer and stopped because my hair was nappy all the time. The growth during that time was amazing though. Now, I use Howse's Dew, same PROBLEM but same result - longer hair.

Do children not get headaches? I grew up sleeping in sponge and magnetic rollers. Now, any type of roller gives me a day long headache.

I have no idea...
I think it's cause as you get older you are more stressed and it's harder to sleep...I know everytime I try to sleep in magnetic rollers, I'm tired and have a headache the next day...
I may try this weekend though...

My hair grew the best when I started viewing this forum. I leurned about proper hair care(how to get rid of split ends, henna, the use of oils, conditioners and shampoo, protective styles), and viamin supplements(MSM, Biotin, Amino-acid etc..)

My hair grew and grows best when I moiterize/condition, oil, trimm, wash, and eat right and excersize regularily. Also, staying away from chemicals makes my hair thrive. I only ran into problems when I relaxed/permed, heat styling abuse etc...

I remember my hair growing best when:

1) I started stretching out my touch-ups
2) I had a stylist who used to set my hair on those wave-clamps every 2 weeks and all I had to do for maintenance was to sleep in a satin bonnet and finger comb each day. It would last the whole 2 weeks. I think that not manipulating the hair alot really helped it.

My hair grew best when I got touchups only every three months. I wore my hair in a ponytail most of the time. I really didn't pay attention to shampoos and conditioners that much. I would use Luster's curl moisturizer activator as a daily leave in conditioner and to soften my new growth. When I didn't go to the salon, I touched up my own hair with a Soft and Beautiful box relaxer (usually underprocessed hair).

My hair seems to grow the best when I go longer w/o a relaxer. I went 7 months w/o a relaxer, and I got 4 inches of new growth. I also stopped getting trims by the hairdresser.

O.k you guys it looks like, extending the amount of time between touch-ups is winning as far what caused our hair to grow best. This is really informative, it also proves all of those money-taking hair dressers WRONG! lol

I agree. When I stopped wearing extensions, it was just the beginning. I wanted to grow my own hair long. This hair board has educated me on how to properly care for my hair also. I notice that my hair grows best when I keep it nice and moist with Ayurvedic oils, and of course a clean scalp.
I will only trim now 2-3 times a year

My hair grew best when I was pregnant and when I used to keep my hair braided, oiled w/Glover's Mange (ugh!) while wearing a wig. 3 years ago when I found sites like this one, I had bald spots & my once thick hair was very thin.

Almost all that has changed since I started incorporating recommended products & advice into my regime I got from this hair board. I say almost because my hair is growing but it's somewhat thin compared to when I was younger. The diameter of my hair strands are approx. 1/4 the thickness it used to be. Anyway...I'm ranting and veering off subject as usual.

My hair is growing again thanks to all of the hair angels from this hair board.

My hair grew it's longest when I was pregnant. During those nine months, I only wore a ponytail and refused to use any haircolor or relaxers because my mother said the chemicals would harm my baby.

My hair grew best when i was pregnant and not putting any chemicals in my hair, since the discovery of this hair board (hence im taking better care of it), and adding vitamins to my regime.

dang, i feel so left out. my hair SUCKED when i was pregnant. it's actually growing best now because i'm not doing much to it. it also grew REALLY fast when i was able to wear braids for months at a time. the less i do, the more progress i make!

My hair grew best during the summers when I was fully natural. Because of the "frizz factor" in the summer, I never wore straight styles only curly ones.

Since I have a lot of hair that tangles easily, this required me to wash or at least (condition wash) my hair almost everyday. My hair would grow like crazy! I think it had to do with all the moisture (water).

Great post!

I'm like Adrienne--the less I mess with my hair, the better my progress. Several years ago I was working from 3pm-11pm. I am NOT a night owl. So all I did in the morning and afternoon before work was sleep!! I would get up with just enough time to slap on some oil moisturizer (probably Pink Oil or Moisture Max
barf.gif
) and put my hair in a ponytail. I shampooed and instant conditioned once a week. It was stiff and greasy, but this was one of the few times my relaxed hair grew past the base of my neck.

How do they hurt the baby? I remember Kelly Ripa (All My Children, Regis & Kelly, Pantene spokesperson) refusing to color her hair and getting a lot of flack from the press and the public because of her black roots during her first pregnancy...

My hair grew the best when I was in Florida on vacation. I got two inches in two weeks and I didn't change my diet and the only different hair product that I was using was GinGrow Ginseng hair oil.

Unfortunately, I live in cold New York.

I think my hair grew best when I was just setting it and wrapping it at night and using as little products as possible.
I'm wonder how washing more frequently makes hair grow

Kia, it's not just shampooing as much as it's wetting the hair often. The water keeps the hair moist.

My hair is gowing most now because I rinse every single evening then braid it up for bed. Most definately the wetting has helped me alot.
