French Bouffant Roller Group Buy

Will use the time we have to get the shipping sorted out.

The shipping total will be divided by 29 (two of us do not count for the US shipping; me and our sis in England) and I'll be sending 65 2in roller packs, one 1/2in pack and 12 little bags of pins (excluding our two orders again). I'm estimating that this would all weigh some 92-95lbs. As there's many of you, I'll see if it's easier to just divide the weight in half and send @MileHighDiva two boxes...but I'll try my best to keep it to one box, as I do think dividing by a higher number will keep the price the lowest.

The vendor asked me to say thank you to "the women of my forum" on their behalf. They said they don't know how long processing will take because it depends on how fast my bank transfers the money to theirs, but that they'll ship as soon as the payment is received. Will keep us updated!

I've been looking into FedEx, UPS, DHL...but boy. There's all kinds of crazy customs/duties/fuel surcharges/taxes to pay through those services. So far I've seen nothing less than 600€ with those.

For now I'm thinking we could stick to the local French post (Colissimmo), the issue is that the max weight to the US is 44lbs (20kg) so we would need two boxes...and I think the shipment will weigh more than 88lbs so maybe even a third smaller one. A box weighing 44lbs costs 160€, so if we had two it would turn out to be 11.04€ per person (PayPal says $12.81) and if we have to add a third smaller box, it'd be at most 12.90€ ($14.96) per person. How does this sound? Will definitely keep searching for a better option.

Ooh I was just looking at our invoice receipt on the website and I see they've updated the weight of the package to 28.580kg, or 63ish pounds! I'm about to write 'em an email to ask if that's actually accurate, because that would bring the price per person to just under $9. Will update when they reply!

Hmm...so the rep said that the weight listed is a "theoretical computer-calculated weight but should normally be close to reality." I guess we'll only know exactly once it arrives. However I'm almost sure that the worse case scenario will be some 12.90€ ($14.96).

Actually it'll be a little less, the price will now be divided by 30 as someone paid today sans discount but will join the group shipping. If anyone else wants to do this, do let me know fairly quickly as once the group order is shipped I won't be placing any more late orders. For now we're still waiting on processing, so no risk of having everyone wait for later orders to arrive.

For reference:
17.76 € per roller pack
18.72 € pins (100 pins per baggie)
5.88 € (shipping)

I've got mine in my Amazon cart. Just saving enough to pull the trigger. :yep:

The last time I roller set my hair was when it was relaxed. I know it sounds crazy but I truly want my next set experience to be at waist length. I been air drying so I'm willing to wait till then. I'll bite the bullet around July-ish which is when I reach my goal:cup:

I'm MBL and I'm TIRED of air/blowdryer drying. I want the quickness and convenience of the Pibbs. Can't wait!

The order was shipped early this morning!

The vendor said the order weighs 43kg (close to 95lbs) so it looks like we'll have to divide the weight between 3 boxes. Actually the vendor is also sending me 3 shipments, so at least I should be able to reuse those boxes. So we're back to the $14-15ish per person plan to ship to the US.

I won't have anything to update on until the order gets here so I'll be quiet in this thread in the meantime. Will of course respond to questions posted/PMs sent if any.

@Amarilles completely unrelated. Are you typing in English or French?

I ask because my cousins use translators when they speak to me & the language isn't right. Some words aren't translated period. (I wish they would just type in Spanish since I can read Spanish way better than I can speak it). But your English is perfect. So if you are using a translator I want to know what app. If not blah to this whole question lol

Typing where? Here to you ladies in English of course! Communication with the vendor (or anyone here) are always in French.. I'm not yet fluent but I can speak it comfortably these days.

Girl I'm regla American  Only here because DH is Parisian and can't fathom living elsewhere  Lol.

Ah that makes better sense. Translators are indeed terrible for more than a sentence or two. I cringe through and through when I read the stuff I used to write using them. Just tell your cousin to just type in Spanish...I find myself telling French folks to just speak in French way too often. They want to talk to you in their terrible English upon finding out you're from the states :nono: no sir no ma'am please stick to your French. Lol

I have a great French accent but can barely conjugate être. French speaking people think I'm from a francophone country. My daughter speaks fluent French but does so with a country accent. Lol.

I definitely clicked on that tracking number like I was going to be able to decide what it was saying. Ha!

I'll just wait until someone says I need to PayPal money for shipping. Thanks again ladies!

Ha, cute! My first language was Spanish but learned English very young so my accent is neither here nor there. People tend to think my accent is Brazilian, half the time I let 'em think it.

I did not at all forget that no one will be able to read that, nope! :drunk:

To see it in English go here: www.colissimo.fr/portail_colissimo/suivre.do?language=en_GB

Looks like it's arriving today, I think?! I had DH stay home until noon in case it got here early enough and he could help with the stateside shipping, but it's not here yet.

I had it shipped directly to the post office (common here) to avoid having to carry the things around ourselves, in our teeny little Twingo moreover. Lol. He probably won't make it back home before 5, so if it arrives today we'll ship to @MileHighDiva tomorrow, Saturday.

Edit: Indeed, vendor said it's been available since 9AM o_O:rolleyes: not sure why the tracking doesn't yet reflect that. Pfft... we'll ship tomorrow.

And we're good and shipped! It was all an incredible PITA, but I'll spare y'all. Lol.

In the end we had 3 big boxes weighing a total of 43kg (95lbs) and the total was 480€ (160€ per box). My plan of having only two big boxes (weighing 20kg) and one small box weighing 5kg would've been much cheaper but it didn't work. :( Apparently the post office doesn't ship (or even carry) boxes with dimentions large enough to fit 20kg (44lbs) worth of our rollers in. So we had to stick with the 3 large boxes weighing about 13-14kg each (as the vendor sent it) which made it cost more.

The chart by weight and price:
Int. pricing.png

So 480€ divided by 30 (there are 30 ladies) is 16€, which my PayPal converts to $18ish (USD).

We had to fill customs forms but they didn't charge anything though. However DH says that if there would be a customs charge, that it would be applied by the US...meaning that @MileHighDiva would get a bill. We classified the shipment as a "gift" to avoid any extra charge, but we have no idea how this would be handled by customs. Does anyone have any insight?

The boxes will be shipped on Monday, this took so long that we missed the cutoff time despite getting there 2 hours before it. :perplexed:

Ladies I'll be sending each of you a shipping invoice of 16€ a little later this evening. It's easier if PayPal's "goods and services" button is left unticked this time, as I've already paid for the shipping and protecting the payment (applying the 21-day hold) is not logical in this case. However for those that may still want to tick, in the PM I'll again go over how to increase the total to cover your fee. I won't be able to accept incomplete payments this time around, so please...if you cannot figure out how to adjust the total to cover the fee, just do not tick the button. There is nothing to adjust with the button unticked.

Payments that are incomplete will either be rejected (to be resubmitted correctly) or you can submit yet another payment to cover what you missed but this is more expensive as there will be yet another fee. I'll be crediting the ladies who overpaid last time, but this time around I'll have nothing to do with any extra but keep it. So do please revise your total well if you're ticking the button.

And lastly once the shipment makes it stateside to MileHigh, your goodies will only be shipped to you once your international shipping to me and your domestic shipping to her have been covered. Both. We're trying and working together to keep these costs as low as possible.

(and so sorry for the uglyish info!
