I am loving my new steamer!!!

Has anyone ever steamed after relaxing?? Did your scalp burn? Any negative side effects?

Hi msdevo, I started steaming after relaxers last year after an expensive salon visit, and my hair felt great and it had more body. I haven't experienced negative side affects. After the initial treatment I HAD to get a steamer. Hth

sweetnovember Thanks for the reply. I relaxed the other day and steamed with my dc. My scalp felt refreshed and my hair felt soft and it had lots of SWANG to it once I dried it.

I haven't steamed this week yet. I decided to work on my porosity problem to make sure I get the most of my steaming.

PJaye did you figure out what was wrong with your steamer?

I just relaxed my hair today and followed up with a moisture conditioner. I used a protein treatment after I rinsed out the relaxer (but I don't use the steamer at this point).

I will always steam after a relaxer as you really have to thoroughly replenish moisture levels in the hair after a chemical service. I steamed for 45 minutes.

Thats exactly what I did. Protein, no steam. Moisture, steam:lick:

How soon after your relaxer will you wash n steam again?
Since getting my steamer, I wanna steam everyday but I know I cant.

I will wash and condition (light protein followed by moisture) at the weekend, probably Saturday and again on Tuesday, moisture only. :)

I wasn't able to steam last night because my steamer was sounding an alarm and I couldn't unearth the source of the problem. So, I opted for an overnight DC instead.

Which steamer do you have? You're the 2nd one to have a complaint about your steamer. I hope they are not all defective after 3 months of use!

Hello, I'm in, This will be my first challenge. I haven't relaxed my hair in over 10 yrs, but using hair coloring/ tight weaves and braids have done a number on it. To start with since I don't have a steamer, I'm using a soft bonnet dryer, plastic cap and one of the steamy balls I bought from Dollar Tree. The ball which is a soft rubber with a sponge inside absorbs water, then I put in in a small plastic yogurt container then place it on top of my head under a plastic cap. It works pretty good, but more than likely I'll end up buying the standing steamer. I was wondering, has anyone ever used the steam rollers which were out several years ago? I had a a set, and this makes me want to dig them out from wherever I put them . Here is my starting picture, taken after a steam with Suave Humectant conditioner and coconut oil.

Currently steaming for an hour with Henna then Indigo 20 min followed by 30 min DC with Humectress, WGO and Hemp Oil.

Will cleanse today with ORS Creamy Aloe, followed up with Aveda DR, then moisture DC with Molton Brown mer-rouge hydramasque, I'll use just a touch of oils.

Prepooed, did a hard protein treatment and steam DCd yesterday and then put some leave ins and got some cane rows put in.

Steamed with jasons biotin conditioner mixed w/ wgo & evoo. I love the way my hair absorbs it during steaming. It's literally gone when I'm done steaming.

I washed with porosity control shampoo. Then I applied megatek to my scalp and hair for twenty minutes then steamed with humectress, vatika oil and porosity control conditioner.

After my henna treatment on Thurs my hair is feeling a little dry. Currently steaming for 30 min with Humectress, Leklair Cholesterol, Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Castor Oil

I'm so upset that I did not get a chance to dc/ steam this week, my hair is going through withdrawal by being so dull and dry...ugh!

I steamed this wknd with Curl Junkie Banana & Hibiscus Moisturizing conditioner. It was ok; most conditioners make my hair dry and hard, at least this one didnt do that, so that in and of itself is an accomplishment, lol. I will continue to use until I find something better.

I generally avoid protein like the plague but my hair is so fragile right now, i think i could use a just a teeny tiny smidgen of protein. I'm on a quest to find a natural conditioner that has a little protein in it. I've hear some good things about Komaza and a natural store in an nearby city sells their stuff.

Wash with ORS creamy aloe shampoo. Deep condition under steamer for 15 minutes using L'oreal deep restorative masque (rosemary and mint). This is a part of thier Ever Pure sulfate free system for color treated hair. I picked it up at Walmart on the clearance rack for $4. Its a 5oz. jar and I sectioned my hair into 3 parts before getting under the steamer.

I used Cantu shea butter as my leavein and sealed with Hairveda's Shikaki oil. I braided my hair in 8 sections to airdry.

Wash with Jasmine nourshing poo and steamed 35 minutes with bamba(it's smells terrible got to use this up)
