as shorter than it really is?
I don't know why I always think of myself as having short hair when most people would call it medium length. My friend today actually asked me how did my hair get "so long and nice"I was really surprised when she said that.I wonder if when I'm at brastrap I will think of myself as being just about shoulder length.I probably won't be satisfied til it's dragging on the ground (I hope not though)

good question ... All the time. This girl i'm in training with at work asked me how do i maintain my hair, so i told her my routine and she goes, "you do a really great job with your hair, it's so long and nice looking" well i was shocked that SHE said it cause she's the girl i think is one egg short of a dozen, but yeah when i hear ppl say that i'm like "thank you" but then i feel like a fraud because i know it's not at the length i want and it really does seem shorter than what people make it out to be. I dont think i see length the same anymore anyway...my views have been skewed---the RIGHT way

I think I tend to see my hair as shorter than it really is...especially with new growth shrinkage. Then after I relax, I see how much longer my hair is. Right now I have 5 weeks of new growth and Im going to wait another 11 weeks until I get my next touch-up!

I cant wait to see how long my hair is after relaxing! Wish me luck!

I don't think I see mine as shorter than it is, I just think I have different ideas about what's long than most people. The people that I know think that if your hair can be put into a ponytail then it's "getting so long!"

My hair is a little past bra-strap and that is straight-up medium to me, not long.

I consider long to be waist length or close to waist length and longer. But, what people consider long vary from individual to individual.

One more thing I wanted to add was that sometimes in the back of my mind when I hear "Oh, your hair is getting so long", I can't help but think they mean, "Long for a black girl"

I mean when a caucasian or other non-black woman has hair that is a bit past her shoulders or touching her shoulder blades, is it considered "SO long?"

I don't know, just something that crosses my mind from time to time.

I've thought this statement before as well!

I see my hair as short to the point that I get embarrassed if anyone comments on how long it's gotten. I guess I will belive it when I can play Lady Godiva and hide my breasts with my hair.

I think that way too. People always say I have long hair, when my hair is past my shoulders. But long hair to me is bra strap lenght or longer.

I always think my hair is shorter than it really is. At its longest, I still didn't think it was all that long. Now that it is shorter than that, I look at the old pictures and think "gosh, my hair was so long." I wish I had appreciated it more.

Wow Godzooki, you have made soo much progress, your hair looks long, healthy and shiny! I love it!

i don't get that. People always tell me, "Oh your hair is so... Short." This is because I wear it in a ponytail allll the time. When I acctually do break down and get it straigtened and out no one at school ever sees it so they have no idea. I think i want to keep it that way.

i do the same thing, i always look at my hair likw it takes so long to grow...but when peolpe see me they sy my hair is so long, and it is growing...it a weird thing i think...i agree with mizzavalon as well...long in who's standards?

I'm like this too. Even though my hair is not long (it has always stopped growing at the nape of my neck). So whenever I get compliments like "oh, your hair is growing"...I get estatic, only to get mad again when I look and see no progress at all

I agree. People say to me "your hair is growing so much". I don't really see it yet. I also feel that way too Miz. I had one woman say "how do you get your hair so straight" as if my hair should be nappy cause I'm black!

I have to keep reminding myslef that my hair is getting longer. I still think it's the same length it was for most of my life, thanks to aggressive bimonthly trims. I get reminded when I sit back in a chair and I feel my hair pressed between the bottom of my shoulderblades and the chair.

yup, people are always trying to tell how long my hair is getting, or asking me how i grew my hair so long.... meanwhile im thinking they have to be kidding. cause it feels ssssssoooooo short! lol. maybe when im midback or waist lenght i wont think so anymore.

I see my hair that way all the time. Everyone considers my hair long. But to me, it's just not long enough yet. I still consider it medium length.

I always see my hair shorter than what it is, and I prefer to. It keeps me humble actually, if that makes any sense.

Omg I understand. I go to get my hair pressed out and they'll be like "Girl you don't need no tracks added", they'll be in the salon touching my hair and saying "Maybe I should't stop puttin' all this perm and color and spritz in my hair (d'uh that might be your problem). But to them, hair that is just brusing the soulder blades is long long long.

Then again this is the salon where I can go get my hair done, nails done, and smoke a Herbal Essences if I wanted to.

I think that this LHCF community is full of women with hair that is much longer than what we see on a day to day basis. I know my idea of long hair has changed since joining. So maybe it's just a mix of our personal hair goals, and then the exposure to really long, healthy BLACK hair.

I agree. My perception of long hair has completely changed since joining the board. I used to think that shoulder length hair was long now that I have shoulder length hair I feel like it is so short.

I always think that my hair is shorter than it actually is. I don't know why. It seems to me that it's only right past my shoulders like an inch or so, when it's really at bra strap (or close to it). Then that's another thing. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN YOU'RE AT BRA STRAP????
confused.gif
Depending on what bra I wear, I'm at bra strap and with others I'm not quite there. I don't understand how you all measure that.
