Generally I have a budget but I'd rather not keep track of spending when it comes to my hair and skin:look:

I was bored one day a couple weeks ago and happened to go thru all of my Paypal transactions. Not cash purchases, not direct credit card purchases, just Paypal. Let's just say I got 9 months in and couldn't bear to see anymore  :thud:...I kinda wish I wouldn't have done that, but then again I'm glad because it kind of put things in perspective. Does it mean I'm going to stop? Doubt it, but it has made me a least pause twice and give myself 24-48 hrs to sleep on it before making a purchase.

I don't...and I won't.

I know that if I keep track of how much I spend on my hair, I'll go crazy. I'll be overly concerned w/ spending too much & I might get the inclination to use cheaper products or cut out things that I need. I can't allow myself to do that.

I know that I spend quite a bit for my hair b/c in my quest to find THE products for my hair, I come across a lot of products that aren't for my hair. Those products, some of which have been used only once, go into my junk bag.

I'm not going to skimp on price & quality in terms of hair products b/c your hair gives you what you give it. If a product costs $5 and works great, that's wonderful. However, if the great product costs $25, I'm going to suck it up & buy it b/c my hair is worth it.

Nope, not now. I am still trying to figure out whats right for me. So I will try (and spend) whatever I want to. Now once I settle on some staples then yes I'll put myself on a budget.

I try but the number would be scary a sight. I'm know I'm at least $200-300 deep already but in my defense I had my hair professionally braided, the edges re-done, and curlmart had free shipping. :drunk:

No I don't but I also don't go crazy with my spending. I am a reformed PJ but if there is something that I need i'm getting it... and don't let it be on sale too.

Now that I have staples, I no longer waste money on products that probably doesn't work. My recent purchase was for Ecrinal $19.45 or something and that product is suppose to help me grow back my edges... But away from that, I stay pretty within budget.

Phytorelaxer $60
Profectiv Product $6
Mango Butter $6
Cream of Nature Shampoo $9
Henna $40
and whatever conditioner I can get at a bargain.

I know how much I wanna spend per item but when in loads I just don't care so I ignore it and I just say "hey I got it in the account so no worries"...I will rather spend $20 on my hair than a fast food meal that will make me fatter...excuses excuses...lol Hey I gotta justify my hair addiction somehow. lol!:lachen:

To be honest. I was not keeping track till I realized I had spent over 350 dollars in one month. Well so I have not bought anything except a half weave since December, when I finish my current stash I will go back to shopping and will keep track from now on

Yes, we track every penny that comes in and goes out of our household.

January 2009 hair care spending:
KBB hair milk, KBB hair nectar, KBB luscious locks, trader joe's Nourish Spa condish, Trader Joe's Refresh condish, jojoba oil, Mya II wig

$92.19

It all appears to me spent on my hair, but DH pay about $60 to have his locks retwisted every 4 - 6 weeks.

Same here. I don't know about anyone else, but me and DH are trying to be debt free by the time we're thirty. And we've only got less than 5k to go!!!!!!!! You best believe we're counting every penny! :lachen:
What I usually do is make sure I have my staples, then if there's anything I want to try out, I'll get the smallest amount, try it out, weigh it against what I already have- or see if I can get the same result with a cheaper alternative- and go accordingly. I go to the store with a set amount of how much I'm willing to spend. I don't know... I like saving money! I know I'm a PJ, but I'm pissed when I shell out cash for a full sized product that didn't do crap for my hair. The money lost outweighs my PJ addiction!
But hey, if you got the flow, feel free to use it!

I live with her for now and she likes me. I'm the daughter she never had and she's never got to do the hair/makeup thing with anyone

What? Your boyfriend's mother pays for your hair product? I've never heard of that one...is it a cultural thing?

As long as I dont spend over $70 a month then I'm cool. I try to stay at half that and below.

Because before LHCF, that was how much i was spending getting my hair done every other week.

So If i find myself spending that amount or more then i might as well go back to the salon.....doesnt make sense to be spending more money doing-it-myself.

I never used to before, but my hand is being forced to right now. I'm in a bit of committed relationship now and my SO and I are trying to be debt free as well. Our aim is to save up about 3 months of money to carry us in the event we get layed off from our jobs and so far we have 6 weeks of savings put aside and I think it would be very irresponsible of me to allow him to carry this burden by himself. So I've committed myself to help us out in this very important endeavor. I have a lot of hair products that can carry me for at least a couple of years. I will only be replenishing my staples really from here on out. Good luck to you ladies.

I like your logical thoughts here MizzB and you're right...if you find that you're not saving the same or more money you'd be spending at the salons, then you are spending too much...I totally agree.

Lol, girl Eisani, I never thought the day would ever come when I would think these words, much less say them:look:. But a gal's gatta do what a gal's gata do, you know!

Yes I do I recently just started...

The beauty supply store is more expensive than Sally's and I refuse to pay more than I have to for hair products... So, once I figured that out, I looked at what I use regluarly, picked everything that I need and just use my Sally's card.

A penny saved is a penny earned.

I narrowed it down to pretty much any Cholesterol conditioners, a light protein and a moisturizing poo, I can pretty much pick these out in a line up lol.

My moisturizer, leave in, foam wrap lotion, shampoo and serum.... So the only thing that I have more of is 3 different conditioners or 4 but generally of different types for the moisture/protein balance.

I love Sally's the products are quality and affordable.

Yes, I have too. I've created a hair budget that limits how much I can spend a month. It can get expensive....

Absolutely. Frivolous spending on anything is a thing of the past for me. I need to know where every dime goes now. I like it better that way.
