Do we, as women of color, suffer from Pocohonatas syndrome?

I want my hair longer because I am tired of the same look. My hair has looked the same way for 4 years. I want a change. Everyone needs a change sometimes whether it is hair, style, whatever. without it life gets boring.

I don't see it as trying to be white. If other races have long hair why can't we?? I can't speak for everyone but my goal was never to have bra strap length hair. It's too long for me. If I reached armpit I'd be very pleased. Prior to coming to this board I thought black women with long hair had to be mixed and now I know that this isn't true. I think most of us want longer hair to destroy the stereotype that black women can't have long hair. My hair type is 4b very kinky and nappy. I've been told all my life that I have "bad hair' and I want to prove to myself and others that this " bad hair" can grow!!

This is a small part of the reason why I want long hair.

With hair down to my ankles, I'm still a beautiful BLACK woman--nothing changes that.

Its not just long hair that strikes a nerve. Its long STRAIGHT hair. Otherwise your hair wouldn't be growing to your ankles, it would be growing up towards the sky.

lol.

True.

Straight or natural, I think that it is still pretty when properly taken care of. I personally think that itis gravity that makes hair fall down.

White women can be just as hair length challenged as women of color can be. (see www.longhaircommunity.com) We're all learning as much as we can about hair care.

ITA with Isis. I believe women, regardless of race, are obsessed with anything they think makes them more beautiful. And I don't mean that only because they are trying to be more attractive to some man.

I believe that's the way God designed us. We value our looks, because it makes us feel good about ourselves, the same way men value having their egos stroked.

Think back to when you were a little girl (before you could like men in a romantic way). Think of how pretty most of us felt when we put on that pretty dress, or had our hair done in a pretty style. It made us feel something. In that same way, I think long hair does something for us.

As the bible says, a woman's hair is her crowning glory!

Not necessarily. It depends on the hair texture. Going natural made me discover that my hair definitely goes against gravity. :)

yeah since going natural mine is def. more of a big bigger issue than length as it's typical thought of. Instead of APL and WL i'll have to measure by afro-to door frame-distance or something.
