LOL. When it comes to stylist, I don't trust them. Too many bad experiences. People who feel over qualified to use cutting devices on my hair need to give me 5 feet, no pressure.

And yes, my man touches my hair. :lachen: scalp massages, carressing, and hair pulling... are all ok in my book. Just stay away from me with the heat and shears.

I was approaching my mid twenties the first time I entered a salon, so my perspective is somewhat different. I grew up in a largely DIY era - if a girl didn’t know how to braid, cornrow, put in extensions, straighten, curl and style hair by the time she reached middle school/junior high school, people looked at her strangely.

I’ve left salons with wet hair, and have removed rollers and pins before exiting many times after encountering resistance, manhandling, apathy and/or funky attitudes (Dominican salons were the worst offenders). While I was always polite, there were only two choices available: Do it my way or I’m out.

I believe that most people don’t speak up largely because they fear retribution while being in a vulnerable state. It’s as Your Cheeziness stated, no one wants to alienate someone that is control of their food, hair and money.

I might have had that problem when I was younger but I became a DIY pretty early on. Now I'm an actual stylist (part time) and the saying is true as far as stylists being horrible clients. You would think my neck is broken the way I jerk my head away when I don't like something.

My mother has beautiful hair and has been going to hair salons all her life. Once she went to one where she was not one of this particular stylist established clients and he rushed through the job, did her roller set in not a very uniform way, fluffed it out and that was it (thinking that as my mom was an older woman she wanted an old woman style). My mom made him do it all over again!wash, condition, rollers, blow out,all of it. He was sooo pissed

I just want to say : your mother is awesome and that is hilarious
I would never have been able to make a stylist redo my hair from scratch

When I had no idea about hair past slicking down a ponytail and getting quickweaves done I didn't really know to say hey stop damaging my hair but after being on this site and as many things I've learned through my own searching and reading I can't imagine sitting through a damaging service while staring into space silently. I'm doing everything I can to get to BSL and if anyone thinks I will pay for someone to take that way from me is out of their mind.

But if you ordered a steak and the waiter brought you chicken would you sit there an just eat it? Her mother wanted what she came to get and if that stylist wanted to get paid he better get it right.

my reason, I felt I couldn't speak up.
I was 7 and my dad took me to a 60 something old man he hacked off about 5 inches and I just cried... A part of me still hates my dad for that because I begged him not to.
