Disney's Black Princess has BEAUTIFUL hair!

Here's one:

A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

This one is easy
Jasmine and Aladin

NONE of those styles look like mine without some form of assistance.... Sigh....
Well, should they have contacted you first to get your approval? :ohwell:

Being on this board for as long as you have, one would think you would be aware of the differnt textures/types of black hair/heads floating around.

It's a cartoon people. Geeze Louise!!!!!

they did a good job, imo.

Mine too! :yep: I'm loving the fullness and texture of the hair as well as the great expression. I hope Disney gets this right!

A girl can bring her family
great honor in one way
By striking a good match
And this could be the day

Men want girls with good taste
Calm
Obedient
Who work fast-paced
With good breeding
And a tiny waist:lachen:

OK!?! What is that :look::drunk:?

I would hope not. Penny Proud's voice drove me up the wall and One on One annoyed me too.

I would shoot myself if she talked like Run's daughters (their accent kills me because it sounds like they are trying too hard to make it sound thick like that IMO... and maybe I just don't like the accent:perplexed?) or Beyonce (sounds ignorant and I can say that because I'm from Houston and I don't speak the way she does:nono:) too.

I just hope she sounds like a normal black person and not the raspy-voiced exaggerated noise they try to put to black girls in cartoons (think Suzie from Rugrats for example). Brandy can sing and all but I just don't want them to use her either... its just too typical for white people to assume we all sound like her.

The girl who plays Penny Proud can't sing can she? If she can't sing they wont pick her.

I agree. Cree Summer is not allowed to do any voice work in this movie. I watch way too many cartoons, but from pre-k to tween all animated black females have the same voice.

Ok, now why did I know exactly what song this is? (love me some Lion King, and yes I had the soundtrack, can't find it now:wallbash:)

I would love to hear a new voice as well. Someone with a soft-spoken voice, you know like Brandy? (well, the way she sounded in her version of Cinderella ).

I love the different illustrations. I also like the curls and the ponytail.

OT: I would love to hear Beyonce talk and sing for the princess or Alicia Keys, or India A. or Ciara and maybe even Tyra, lol...it doesn't matter. Im happy about the movie coming out!

You know I don't know to this day what it mean to be "red letter" but I do agree it sounds better if they just say gets better:perplexed

Anyone else be hearing Disney songs in their head for no reason?

Sometimes I think people probably mistake me for crazy... I'll bust out with a quick:

"Mister Aladdin sir!..."
or
"Let's get down to business!"
or
"I can show you the world..."

Wait... who remembers this one;

Life is so unnerving
For a servant who's not serving
He's not whole without a soul to wait upon
Ah, those good old days when we were useful...
Suddenly those good old days are gone
Ten years we've been rusting
Needing so much more than dusting
Needing exercise, a chance to use our skills!
Most days we just lay around the castle
Flabby, fat and lazy
You walked in and oops-a-daisy!

Peter Pan, that was easy

Well she's beautiful and her hair is gorgeous. She actually has black features.
But...I just gotta say it. I have to express my beef LOL:

:offrant:

1. This country acts like black people just materialized off the slave ships I swear. Is it still the same storyline.

--What about Nubia? Meroitic QUEENS ruled and led their armies into battle.
Egypt's riches came largely due to her close association with Nubia. In fact they found gold processing sites near the city of Kerma(i believe).
--What about Egypt? Black pharoahs ruled and were among the upper class LONG BEFORE THE 25TH DYNASTY!
--What about Zimbabwe?--Africa was always a source of great mineral wealth and trade (which contributed to it's downfall, imo).
--Sub-Saharan Africa was in a Golden Age when other nations (like Europe) were fumbling around in the dark ages fighting the Plague.
--People came from all over the known world to be educated and teach at the madrassas of Timbuktu! In fact they just uncovered thousands of pages of manuscripts from the learning center.

You have a continent--a people--bursting with culture.

Yet.....THIS--is the best Disney could come up with: A friggin 'chambermaid' and her pet croc living in post Civil War Louisiana singing voodoo songs while waiting for a white prince to save her?

>>sigh<<

Speaking of 'white princes' ....

2.
I want to see BLACK PEOPLE in the movie!
There I said it. Whatever.
I mean--what is this: "Something New": The Children's Addition" ?
Everytime black folks got a love interest they're almost aways white--what is that about?
Ain't nothin wrong with IR relationships but hell--ain't nothin wrong with loving your own people either. Damn that. There's nothing wrong with wanting to see that love demonstrated in the media for a change instead of these ridiculously forced images.
Mainstream media acts as if they can't depict a movie where black folks share honest love with each other (unless some black person wrote it).
No one wants black men and women together in a loving relationship...even in a freakin cartoon. :nono:

"Ah--toss em a bone, they'll take anything we throw at them."
It''s sad.
But not surprising. All half of us do is gulp down whatever the media and dominant culture feed us anyway.
No love for each other and no knowledge of culture or place in the world.
These kids ain't taught nothing about Africa except that many people there seem to die of AIDS.
These kids don't know nothing about blackness except that they're the descendants of slaves.
The kids hardly see anything displayed in the media except black folks stomping on each other to fall in love with anything--so long as the object of affection doesn't look like US.

...and we wonder why so many black folks are just 'lost'; running around applying 'Slave Logic' to everything.
:offrant:

Ok I'm done.
Ppl can think as they will and I will think as I will.
I don't care how pretty she is. I don't care if this is the first black Disney Princess film...
Take your kids if you want to. If this is the storyline--this cartoon won't get a dime outta me.
Cause they coulda kept this ish.
If you're going to do something do it RIGHT...
