dcing not necessary? Can someone bring some clarity

not to me:rolleyes: I only "deep condition" with evco and evoo because I know they penetrate...commercial products...not so much..for ME...when I used to "DC", my hair would feel amazing...for like a day....which I can get from Suave...so some would say I have't found the right DC for me...but I'm not going to try hundreds of products to get to the right one. My hair is just fine.

I agree with the bolded.

I don't but, I co-wash daily.

I also do oil treatments every 10-12 days.

Adding a DC doesn't make a difference for me.

If I had a different regimen, I probably would.

I think the fact that you cowash daily is probably why you don't have to. Like you said if you were on a different regimen (only wetting your hair weekly/bi-weekly) then you would probably feel the need.

I have been going round and round on the DC not DC merry-go-round. I talked to Victor Sabino a lot about it. You can read what he says here: http://www.sabinohair.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=190

Basically the frequency in which we wet our hair is what really matters. He told me that DCs are just a sham and a waste of money. He is aware that I am a natural 4b and he says that this is true for afro type hair as well. He says that we should be washing our hair every 2-3 days. I wash my hair with a mild shampoo every other day to every 2 days, use a conditioner that I keep in for the duration of my shower and use Lok and Blok to seal in the moisture from the water/conditioner. Apparently the moisturizing effects of conditioner only lasts a few hours or until the end of the day if we're lucky. I feel that if proper moisture (water) is restored often then there is no need for DC. I have been using Sabino's method for a little less than a month but so far it's the only thing that has consistnently kept my hair feeling moisturized.

As for DCs doing anything after 5 minutes I really don't know but there are a LOT of testimonies to the power of DCing on this board alone so maybe there is something to it. I think if it works it shouldn't be stopped because of some blog. I do however believe there are ways of getting around having to DC hair. I remember when I first came here I thought I wasn't doing right by not DCing and now I don't care if I'm in the minority because I have found a method that works for me.

GPB for 5 minutes under a cap while I shower works just fine. I only go under the hood if I'm doing henna or curlformers. I didn't see a difference when I did marathon treatments.

^that was an interesting article...I was nodding my head until he started promoting his own product along with it lol

Oh I know, usually I can't stand shameless product pushers but his stuff has actually saved me money and it actually works for me so he gets a pass lol:grin:.

I use to be a DCing fanatic, but since I've been using Joico I normally do not DCing any longer then 5-10 mins while in the shower. My hair seems to respond better to the shorter DCing time.

I haven't DC'd in forever and my hair is fine.
It is not intentional..just lazy.
It depends on the DC i think, if you're using one that isn't really doing anything for your hair then it's probably just a waste. Like if you co-wash frequently, then I don't think a DC is that necessary, especially if the DC is meant to moisturize.
IMO, DC-ing is only beneficial to my hair if it contains protein..otherwise I don't notice a difference.
I agree. I've seen more benefits from dc'ing with a dc that contains light protein.

I DC just because and I don't do it very often....I don't feel it's necessary and I really can't say I notice a huge difference when it's just a moisturizing dc. Yeah it feels nice to slather on a nice thick creamy dc but when I rinse out and proceed with my normal styling regimen my hair feels the same. Now what I do focus on the most is my moisturizer and sealant. That's where the moisturizing is at:yep:.

I don't deep condition. I've done it before and my hair didn't look or feel any different, so I don't think it's necessary for me. Someone else might feel their hair improves, so they may feel their hair needs it.

The only treatment I found that makes my hair feel nicer is cassia, but only if my hair is acting dry and crunchy, the cassia brings it right back to where it needs to be. I'm not sure if that counts as deep conditioning, though.

I believe DC'ing is highly beneficial, but not always necessary. It may be necessary for a lot of people, but I can't say all. There are many women out there who have successfully grown their hair by various means and following a pretty good routine, but not necessarily DC'ing. Also, I don't believe that DC'ing has to be with a commercial deep conditioner, even though they certainly work. There are other conditioning things that serve to moisturize and strengthen hair as well, such as honey, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, eggs, yogurt, and molasses. In other words, just do what works for you. As long as you're happy and your hair is healthy, that's all that matters .
