I've noticed a lot of threads about deep conditioning lately and I wanted to throw a little science about the subject in the mix. I don't know how many of you know about The Natural Haven which is a blog written by a black female scientist who has natural hair. I believe that she is a member or at least a lurker

She adds the scientific side to a lot of the questions many of us have about hair. Here's what she has to add to the discussion: Monday Myths: Can you really 'deep condition' your hair?

I don't think it does anything magical to your hair but I don't think it's a myth either. Deep conditioning leaves my hair soft, stronger, moisturized and my coil pattern becomes very pronounced, which I think are all good things, especially for type 4 hair which can be fragile dries out easily. I think DCing on the regular can help prevent at least some breakage.

But then , I'm not a scientist. :)

This is very interesting. Maybe that is why if your hair is dry it takes a few times for really feel like your hair is back to a moisturized state? I have noticed that even if I do a really really long DC it doesn't matter, I still get the same affect as a one horu DC.
