Comeback 2012 Challenge

I would like to join Actually Im recovering from a set back that started in August 2010, and the end result now is damaged dyed hair

1) Tell us about your setback, big or small.
Its pretty big, lost length was headed to BSL and lost length and thickness,,,I wanted to shave it all off but my finance says no..
2) How do you plan to recover? (ie, new regimen, PSing, no heat, baby ends, etc)
protective styling moisturizing deep conditioner, and just letting my hair be..also using sulfur
3) What is your comeback goal? (does not have to be a length goal...can be thickness, edges, etc)
full MBL by 12/31/2012
4) Post a picture of your setback or simply post a starting picture.
pics are in my fotki
5) Every 3months, take a picture to document your progress. For those who are hiding their hair, you don't have to post the picture, but check-in with us on how things are going.
6) For those coming back from a length setback (or for anyone also interested), keep track of how many inches you've obtained either on a monthly or quarterly basis. On December 2012, tally your total inches, tell us what you've learned about your hair, and celebrate your growth!!!
7) No trims for 2012 (you may search and destroy split ends only)
8) Encourage each other and give helpful tips!

Awesome thread! I wish I knew about it a while back, probably wouldnt've gotten my hair cut again in March. But...

1) Tell us about your setback, big or small.

It all started w/ a haircut around Thanksgiving last year when I wanted to get a fly haircut. And really...I even had thoughts of cutting my hair to a TWA for 2012, so I had alot of random thoughts about my hair; 2011 was a tough year though. Anyway. It was a cute cut, but the point was to be able to wear my hair w/o a headband and I was still wearing a headband. Plus it had a tail in the back and I just felt I didn't know hwo to maintain it. So I had someone cut it to a bob shape and that meant cutting it shorter b/c I wanted to grow the layers out of it. THEN...for some reason I missed having a lil tail in the back and wanted that fly feeling again  so I went back to the first person and had her do the cut again...that was all within a couple of months; between Thanksgiving and New Years. Oh and within that time I had used an old relaxer that made my hair dry and I tried to do a corrective relaxer to figured I could maintain the hair cut better if my hair was bone straight...sooooooooo it just all became one big mess. So THEN....my hair was tryna grow out of all of that and so I went back to the first person cause it felt like my hair could be a lil earlength blunt bob....WTF? she cut all my bangs and the back of my hair even shorter?????? I did have alot of breakage, but I didn't need her to catch it all up b/c it's actually a Catch22 game b/c it causes more breakage w/ me trying to maintain my hair that short. ANYWAY. That was right before I started my new job lolol so I'll always remember it; it was the weekend before. It's been about 6wks now and my hair is getting trained back to my usual routine. One good thing about the last cut was that at least it cut off all those extra relaxed peices, so I'm basically back texlaxed again so great.

Okay......sorry so long :ohwell: I feel like I've talked about it everywhere else, good to have it consolidated somewhere.

2) How do you plan to recover? (ie, new regimen, PSing, no heat, baby ends, etc)

Sticking to my regimen and not cutting to my hair. That's it.
Daily washing works for me; my daily products work for me; airdried rollersets work for me; Relaxing every 6wks (I know I know....but it) works for me. And my protective style of wearing a headband works for me (as long as it has no teeth and isn't tight). So I'm sticking to it.

3) What is your comeback goal? (does not have to be a length goal...can be thickness, edges, etc)

Just last year I was able to wear these faux buns and my hair was really getting to a real one lol. So that's my short-term goal: to be able to pull my hair back to something that looks like a bun and w/ some healthy looking edges. Long-term goal is a real bun. And 'real' in the since that I can just pull all my ends back and twist it into a simple bun.
4) Post a picture of your setback or simply post a starting picture.

Hi, I know that I have not been here in am minute but today I did the Chicoro prepoo. I hair feels great and looks moisture I am adding this into my reg.

TrueSugar, please do share more.

@ZebraPrintLovers, have you tried affirm relaxer? that's what I use. I also stretch my relaxers typically 3-3.5 months. I went 4.5months this time around. I've noticed a significant difference in thickness though.

As an update ladies: I got a relaxer today after 18weeks (4.5 months) and i'm so excited about the progress. 3inches in 4.5months. I went from the 9 to the 12. I'll take straight pics next time i wash, but i got it curled after the relaxer. I'm exactly 1in from WL (the 13 on the shirt). Can't wait!

bigbrowneyez, no I havent tried Affirm. I have a friend that has beautiful hair and she uses it. Where could I purchase it from?

bigbrowneyez it has been one week. my ends feel soft and I haven't been getting as much breakage.

I have my hair braided in corn rows under a wig all week and I make sure to do an oil rinse each night before bed. and I literally apply grease and oil on the ends of the braids. Sorry no pics.. but my ends seemed to have gathered some life.

Sitting prepooing with Aussie Moist and WGO/EVCO, about to jump in the shower and take a pics once I get out as my starting pic.

Ok so last night I prepooed (as I was doing above), clarified, washed 2x with with Green CON, then DCed with a protein mixture and ceramides.

AARRGGHHHH this new growth is pissing me off, I think I have corkscrew curls. I dont like it at all, seems hard to manage.

About to do a cowash mixed with an oil rinse.
Aussie Moist and WGO.....

I went walking/jogging today, I dont need any issues with the salt from the sweat.

lawyer2be371, I think u can make MBL by dec :-D. Do u have staple products and a good regimen?

itismehmmkay, wow girl, you went through a lot! Do you daily wash with shampoo and conditioner? Will u be going back to a stylist or doing everything yourself? (as far as relaxers, etc)

Giselle685, I love when the ends of the hair cooperate! They can be such a hassle sometimes. I'm glad u found something that works!

ZebraPrintLover, I go to a salon when I get relaxers so I don't know where to purchase. But I'm sure someone on this forum does. How many weeks post are u?

Keep it up ladies!!!!!

bigbrowneyez, I havent heard ANY salons around here using Affirm. I am going to just stick with what I know Design Essential. I am 13 wks post will be 14 on the 28th.

I am actually cool at the moment with the NG, I it it with a flatiron and brushed it with a denmen so I am good right now. I am going to see how long this last.

Yes ma'am I did!!!
And yes I use shampoo daily w/ the conditioner. Co-washing is too heavy for me. And no ma'am, no more stylists. The relaxers, I use one of those color application tubes and add oil, so the overlap really is minimal and gets easier w/ longer hair. At one point I figured I'd still do my own relaxers, but go to the Dominican lady who did my rollersets and blowdries, but not only is it hard to fit in my schedule (either taking my lil guy or having someone watch him), but all that blowdrying would take out my texlaxed curls and defeat the purpose. She could do some hair though!

And at one point I said I'd do my own haircare, but just go get my hair trimmed when needed. But my challenge is to NOT cut my hair no more! I may look into dusting, but I'm even weary on that b/c I don't want to get obsessed w/ it laying "right" or looking perfectly cut. Like I was saying, I'm just going to wear it up and braided anyway when it gets long lol.

I swear I just wanna wash my hair daily. I been going to the track and walking anywhere from 3-6 miles daily and when I get home my hair is all soaked in sweat. I try to keep it at every other day, but its getting soooo hard. My main issue is that I hate dealing with my NG and relaxed ends....

itismehmmkay, yep NW side.
What dominican lady is that you speak of?

P.S. Fat Pat is my cousin LOL, or shall I say "was"!

RIP DJ Screw

ZebraPrintLover
LOL whaaaaaaat? Small world. Yea the only Screw tape I owned was Ghetto Dreams...screwed and chopped. I wish I still had it too...."Livin livin lavish...it's a habit"

And the dominican lady is Ms. Leila/Lena off of Bissonett and Rampart. It's like the latino hood kinda. It's not that hood actually, but Rampart is where alot of the chop shops I guess are. If you need car parts alot of folks go there.

@itismehmmkay, I have heard of her, from the Salon Review thread. What does her prices look like?

I have never owned any screw tapes, to even think about t IDK how I even learned the songs. Hmmmm maybe the radio or something.....

Yep from the radio I bet lol

And yea she's real cool. I think a rollerset and blowdry is $35 or so. When I first went to her back in '04-'05 they were like $15 I think, but I knew her prices were going up so I would add a bit to each time out of respect. I think I pretty much give her $30, which includes tip and she honors that. Call her and ask what she says. It's called Honduras Beauty Salon.

itismehmmkay, do you have her shop number on hand?

Anywho guys I just had a wash session this was my protein week..... trying to keep it balanced. Its going into a bun until I cowash maybe Thursday.

How are you ladies doing?

Welcome @KandiB! Can't wait to see the progress you're gonna make!
@LaidBak thanks for the bump! I'm glad ur in the right track. Any pics? :-)
How are other ladies doing??

I missed this tag initially. I guess I do owe some pics. I trimmed my own ends a few nights ago, since my stylist wouldn't do it. I will DC today and post some pics.

I think there was a misunderstanding. My sides were touching my shoulders, but my nape was not. I kept saying "cut it even", but I meant even just across the bottom. I think she thought I meant to cut away and even up ALL the damage. That would have left me with about 1/2 inch of hair in the back.

LaidBak

Have you ever thought of going natural? When I used to relax my hair years ago, that's how my hair would look. I don't think it could handle relaxers.

I tried it. My hair is too tightly coiled. I don't have the patience for all that detangling and whatnot. If need be I'll just settle on having short hair for the rest of my life. But I honestly think I'll bounce back eventually.

LaidBak, OMG she did that? I would have slapped the HELL outta her on accident. Your bun was so purrtttyyy! So how have you been wearing your hair to bounce back from that issue?

No, no...she wouldn't cut it because that would have made my hair too short. She didn't do anything. I just trimmed it myself a couple days later. Still waiting on the back to grow in and even up.

Thanks. The bun pic is from 2010 when my hair was healthy.
I've just been keeping it simple, wearing my hair out.
