AFROVEDA - Serious Price Hike!

Oh well. Guess I'll learn how to make my own butters now. I love the shea amla butter, but at that price, I will find an alternative. This is the exact reason why I don't buy Miss Jessie's. Her prices are ridamndiculous.

I hope she doesn't price increase herself out of business.

The irony is that a lot of these all-natural products are just as high, if not higher than Miss Jessie's. This price hike puts them at the same price as Miss Jessie's. $22 for 8oz of butter. I don't buy the argument that these companies use "higher quality" products; oils and shea butter aren't that expensive, even at commercial prices (at Vitamin Shoppe, etc.), and these companies are buying the ingredients wholesale.

well i was just about to place an order. she will never get another dime from me. i am so done with these natural online companies. i already have 2 pur whipped gelly, 16oz hemp seed butter and an 8oz cocolatte. so i aint hurtin for her products which arent that good anyway. i was ok with paying $12 because most of these natural companies charge $16 and up but $21????? she has lost her mind and i dont think shes gonna find it.

ITA. I'm trying so hard to stop depending on online hair companies.

I'm so disappointed. I have to think about what to do, now. Afroveda's shea amla was the business because it helped my hair and cured a skin rash I had been battling. I am saddened by my loss. I am going to look up Bee Mine product reviews.

I personally feel like Bee Mine products are too high as well. $16.00 for 8 ounces of moisturizer :perplexed, ever-changing scents, high shipping...and she hardly ever has a sale.

Lots of companies are raising their prices. Even Starbucks has plans to raise the price of coffee (per a wsj article).

I do think that a $12 price increase is outrageous though.

I have not tried most of the new brands and the biggest reason is the pricing. I get it that they are all start up companies and that the prices are probably high for their ingredients, which are not purchased in large quantities like the larger manufacturers. However, one has to start with a reasonable profit margin and not expect to pass along every cost increase to the customer....which presumes the price increase is due to costs increases for the business owner.

Now what justifies Honeyfig's price increase?
I tell you some people are ruled by greed.
We know that they purchased those before the price hike why increase your prices? SMH

Yup! And I was told that after they run our they aren't going to sell AfroVeda anymore, so why hike up the prices too?

I just wanted to note that the recent Starbucks price hike is due to the rising costs of raw materials. Starbucks hikes drink prices due to the rising cost of coffee. At least that's what the company says....:spinning:.

I personally prefer McDonald's coffee and Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

Damn, i guess i'll have to find something else.....kbb and afroveda are tripping i use curl define and whipped gelly to do my twistouts....i'm almost out of curl define so off to bee mine i go, as for the whipped gelly i have a bit left and can go a another 1-2 months before i swap it out....i hate switching up products but Mala is getting greedy, too. Her price increase on the hair butters should have never went beyond the $15 mark and I hate that she discontinued the 32oz cause it lasted me forever!

i was in love with afroveda, but she has definitely lost a customer. I live in Canada, so it's more economical for me to buy the 32 oz, instead of buying the small size and having to pay shipping over and over. I'm so pissed:nono:. I loved the curl define and Shea Amla:nono:. Now the 16 oz (half the size) is more expensive than the 32 oz was? That's outlandish. So glad that I have been getting serious about making my own, I knew it was only a matter of time before the prices went out of control. I'm done with Afroveda. she damn near doubled her prices:perplexed

the price is already up on the curl define. 16 oz for 36:nono:
I live very close to Honeyfig so I will be going there next week to buy the curl define while the price is still the same b/c that is the only product that worked for me. Also there is a 10% discount now til the end of the month at honeyfig.

16 oz for $36?!?!?!? Last order I placed in February she had the 32oz for around $28 still. I got my at the time staples all for less than $100 (I think she was having a sale so w/ shipping it ended up being around $90 or so for 3 32oz sizes). That's so crazy I cannot even comment.

That is insanity. I cannot fathom someone sitting down and thinking that this would be a good idea. A price hike that high is just insulting and arrogant. There is a lot of competition so I guess we will just have to vote with our dollars and stop supporting Afroveda. I can bet she will at that point have a "sale" lol.

BeeMine is nice, but yes...it is high. And steady going up as well, although not as outlandishly as Afroveda.

for 2011 I was planning to have an all Afroveda Hairveda regimen cause they sell the large sizes and I live in Germany. Guess I'll have to figure something else out. I hope she reads this thread and sees what shes doing to her business by trying this mess with the people who I'm sure brings her the most businees theese hairboards

No thank you. I ordered larger sizes after the last price hike which was only a few dollars but hell no to this one. She can keep her products, they aren't that great anyway.

Great. Since this morning Honey Fig upped their PRICES for the AfroVeda too and now Goodhairmart is sold out.

I can hear a funneral song playing for AfroVeda. They are so dead to me right now.

I just noticed she upped the prices for US customers, but not for Canadian customers we pay enough as it is. We already have steep prices so I don't think she will increase our prices.

I've never tried afroveda. I was gonna buy some stuff on Black Friday. Not anymore. As someone stated there are just way too many options out there. She does not have this market on lock. Unless she is putting gold in her products (since gold is at an all time high) then there is no justification for those kinds of increases. Is she a member? How does the mention function work again??? :look:

i'm still pissed :look: I just don't get how you double your prices randomly? Who is gonna pay over 30 bucks for a 16 oz when they are used to buying 32oz for less than that? It's insulting to loyal customers. No warning, nothing. She's gonna lose her following and only suck in the folks who are newly discovering and don't really frequent boards/know better.

I looked at her Site earlier this morning. The 2 things I primarily get from her (the Ashlii Amla & the Ms. Bree Hair Cream) did not go up in price.:perplexed Yet IMO they are both 'Overpriced'.

Personally, I like Qhemet's Hair Creams/Butters just a bit better anyway. And there are other things out there that work just as well.:yep:

IMHO: It shouldn't be hard finding a suitable/cheaper replacement for her butters......:look:

From a business standpoint, AfroVeda just placed themselves in an entirely different bracket. There are several new products that surface every so often and we give them a try. In addition, Miss Jessie's charges a minimum of $30 for their butters and styling agents...and people still buy it. Even when the ingredients are not great. I think this is a true test. Basically, we complain when the ingrediants aren't all natural and constantly say that we will not purchase them. Look at Miss Jessie's, they have opened an exclusive salon in one of the highest rent districts in the US and we still buy, buy, buy. Now, here is a small business owner that has given you all natural products and they are cheaper and quite frankly better. I think she just "put her money where her mouth is" (Old country saying) She believes here products are just that good. Do you? So who do you purchase from? Who do you believe? Are any of these products worth $30? You decide.

But now, can you see why all BSS products are so cheap. The name of the game is outprice, outlast, outgame the competitors. Has Miss Jessie's done this? Has AfroVeda made a good move? Are they #1 in the natural hair care industry. I promise you...the remaining lines will all do the same. It's up to you decide how you will care for your natural hair. Online or Beauty Supply Brands.

All I can say is that I will won't say "I'll never purchase those products", 'cuz I'd be lying. I will say that I won't purchase them unless there is a really good sale. For the most part, I can mix my own shea butter, oil, amla, and the such...

And this is why I KIA keep it affordable. I purchase when there's a sale or I don't even try the product because what if I like it?? What if they wanna hike it up? What if I want healthy hair AND healthy bank accounts. The 2 purchases I did that were crazy was 1 shampoo for 16 bucks and 1 deep conditioner that DIDN'T even work for 20. Not gonna happen EVER AGAIN. I'd rather mix conditioners and make my own scalp cleanser with powders. Use natural ingredients for gels, creams, etc. Never used afroveda but eh well probably never will.

Her formulations aren't even consistent! At least MJ's gets their stuff manufactured, and their customer service is pretty good, and you don't have to wait a month for products. And trust, it was VERY hard for me to compliment them just now.

I mean...look at my Curl Define from two different batches...the one on the right was MUCH creamier, which the first one was more like a whipped icing; they even performed differently on my hair. She didn't change the ingredients to the products. Not that shoddy mess and now it's $22? Girl, bye.

That's a good point shoot even chagrin valley did it and they're soap lol... Wait till black friday comes I'm stacking up for a year or two before everyone else starts making prices crazy high.

I agree. Those batches are different. Heck my Totally Twisted Ginger Almond Butter is half oil and half cream...it seperated. AND has does not emulsify easily. Thank goodness for Qhemet. lol...they will have a price increase soon! I actually LOVE Qhemet tho...I like AfroVeda.

elle, besides the gelly everytime i ordered from her the batches were different.

Exactly! Like, seriously, step up your formulation game...

WOW! That is STEEEEEEPPPP!!! I tried her products when she first came out and she is a member here just can't remember her name, But I never repurchased, but BSS Products are doing my hair just FINE!!

I am in such disbelief in the disrespect from Mala and her AfroVeda company. I mean, Are you freaking serious??? Come on!

Tonight I will be having a funeral service for AfroVeda in my backyard, lol. This line is DEAD TO ME!

I went natural because of my mom's cancer and with her going through Chemo I wanted her to feel like I supported her so we are both natural. I buy my mom's hair care products and I wanted my mother to try AfroVeda because of the Auryverdic (spelling ARGH) oils in it. Oh the hell well, not at those prices.

I've tried mixing my own stuff with the Amla and Brahmii and other before but it just wasted working and I couldn't get it to smell good either so I really like that AfroVeda had what i was looking for. But not at these new prices.

Right now I am on FB ranting, Hair Boards Ranting, and now on YouTube Ranting. Next I will be blogging about this crap!

I just went to her and saw the prices and was over-whelmed with anger and disbelief. $21 for 8oz. Of course I had to jump to the forum to make sure I wasn't trippin. What kinda mess is that. I understand that from a business standpoint we're paying Miss Jessies prices (I never have) and their products aren't all natural so Afroveda may have the market locked in that respect but this last price hike is ridiculous. $9.50 to what I think was $14.50 to shea amla's $21.50... COME ON HERE!!!

I am so vexed right now....

I vexed bc my hair is doing so well w/ her products and I'm NOT a mixtress to be out there trying stuff especially with the winter coming....

I really wanted to try the hempseed lock butter however I just checked facebook and the honeyfig website they are out of stock but do provide an expected date of Oct. 21 hope she gets more and sells for the same price.
