Heat setback is starting to get to me :( [PICS]

I say give it some time. Incorporate more protein treatments and deep condition like crazy. Sometimes it takes a while for our curls to spring back, if in 4 or 5 months you are still dealing with looser hair, I would personally still deal with it and just do styles to my hair that "set" the curl.

In all honesty your hair does not look that bad. I would wait before I would pick up the scissors. I have seen damage that left people with stick straight strands, so it really is not terrible. I would just do more protien DC (something mild because my hair hates a lot of protien too & gets hard) for a while and lay off the heat for a little bit. That usually is what perks my curls back up when I have issues with loose texture from heat.

I'm sorry about this. It doesn't look that bad to me though...not to the point where you need to cut it. Just lay off the heat for a while and you should bounce back in no time :yep:

:stop: before you do anything drastic, think about your long term goals. Step up your deep conditioning treatments & give it time. :timer: I know you said protein made your hair stiff before, but was your hair heat damaged before? Try a mild protein then follow with a deep moisturizing treatment. Give it at least a month. HTH!:bighug:

You've lost some definition but it still looks good. I agree with doing some styles that will help set the curl, that should help.

Don't be in a rush to cut you can always do that after your hair has grown in some more.

My cousin did protein treatment after treatment in hair like crazy for a few weeks and her got back to its naturally curly state. I'd do it... but at your own risk!!!!!!

I honestly can't see any serious damage. It looks like your hair has got longer are your sure that's not the extra weight making your hair appear a touch straighter.

Ivey,

DO NOT CUT YOUR HAIR!!

I know exactly what you're going through. I did the same to my hair recently.

When your hair is damaged, it does feel like starting over is your only option (I just BC'd in September after a Dominican Salon disaster) but for your hair, and this particular event, I would recommend that you just give your hair a little time to "heal". A little extra TLC goes a long way!

While you can't necessarily "fix" heat damaged hair, you can "treat" it. Have you used an Aphogee treatment?

Your hair is still beautiful!

I tried incorporating protein before and it made my hair stiff. :ohwell:

And I don't really deep condition as often as I should, I will try to work on that.

I guess two strand twists could work as far as "setting" curls...?

You’re not a drama queen to me. To a lot of us, our coils and curls are our shining glory. I was hoping the same thing wouldn’t happen when I colored my hair (whew, it didn't).

When you have extra time and would like tighter curls in some areas, you could also use perm rods. I haven’t done it yet but I will be buying some this weekend to set my curls.

Your hair is still very pretty. I had the same problem as a natural (coarse/4a) after getting a "hard" press. Due to the texture of my hair the straight parts were very noticable. I waited 2-3 months, deep conditioning weekly before I cut any permanently straight parts. Most of them reverted on their own.

Your hair looks good. Don't cut it just yet.

I agree with this post; don't give up yet and cut.

I think your hair is still gorgeous. :)

I am with everyone else! Don't cut! - Give it time, wait and see how well your hair reverts back to it's natural state. (It may happen gradullay). My curls are always loose and appear wavy right after straighting, however within a month-2month time (of not using DIRECT heat), it is right back to it's normal curly state. - If after a few months you still have "straight" pieces, you may need to plan for a mini-cut. But I wouldn't do any cutting just yet.

Make sure you keep up your DC's too, using a reconstructor to get the elasticity/porosity of your hair in check wouldn't hurt either. -

Co-wash a lot with Motions CPR, or Aphogee 2 minute. Limit Shampooing to once every 2 weeks. Deep conditon at least once a week, twice if possible. Your hair doesen't look completely fried, you may get some of your curl back.

HTH.

I would do lots of deep conditioning for a few months and see how it goes. If it does not improve I would slowly trim off the damage. When I was natural I got some bad heat damage and after awhile it really got on my nerves and I had to go ahead and cut. I do understand how you are feeling as I do see a noticeable difference between your before and after pics. Don't be too hard on yourself though, like you said lesson-learned. I plan to be very careful with heat from here on out.

I see where you've lost a bit of your curl definition, but yet in still, your hair is still beautiful. Just up your dc's and nuture your hair- you'll be fine.

Girl DON'T CUT YOUR HAIR!! Just condition it for the next few months. My hair is naturally curly too but I straighten it. While your hair is air drying keep scrunching it. Just walk around scrunch, scrunch, scrunch. You will get some of that definition back until it springs back on it's own.

Drama Queen? You really don't want me to pull up the thread when that stylist chopped my hair. That was a Drama Queen. You're fine...:lachen:

I'll trade u. U still have coils. I did a thread on my heat damage & my coils are gone. But don't fret. Your coils look as if they will recover nicely. As for me I have to grow out the straight hair and trim as I go just like I was transitioning from a relaxer. Ppl suggested protein to help me.

You poor thing! All I can say is don't cut it. Take care of it, make sure your hair is getting adequate protein and moisture, and perhaps do trims occasionally. Also, certain ayurvedic treatments promote hair curliness. I know that fenugreek and cassia obovata (senna/neutral henna) make my NG very curly. Also, I've read that Amla supposedly enhances curly hair. Just trying to help. It will take time, but your hair will recover.

I agree with the ladies ...DON"T CUT!! Try the protein treatments. Let your hair grow in more and then if it looks that bad slowly trim away the damage. It will work out. HHG!

Love your hair BTW.

My hair and heat does not get a long at all.

I can definitely see the difference, but like the other ladies said don't cut. Baby that hair. Deep condition. Make up with your hair and put tender love in care into it. If you do end up having to cut, trim tiny bits off a time.

This happened to me. Since the front/top part of my hair is more wavy than curly anyway, that area straightened and never reverted...and I did indeed have to cut it and start over. Fortunately it's grown pretty quickly with all the curlies and coilies it used to have.

OP, I agree that you're damage is not that bad. You've still got some curl left. I say baby it a bit longer. And your hair is lovely.:yep:

Thanks ladies...I hope the curls will revert soon and if not, then I guess I can just deal with it....definitely a lesson well-learned. I usually set my iron at 395 degrees AT MOST, but last time around, I put it aaalll the way up to 450 degrees and I have FINE texture too. I dunno what I was thinking...

:burning: I never set mine over 370F & that is for only section. Otherwise it's around 325-350F.

I wouldn't cut anything unless you need a trim other than that, just pamper your hair with deep conditioning, and laying off the heat, in time your hair should pop back into place.
