why are we comparing ourselves to white people again on a forum for colored women and their hair?
i believe every other ethnicity hair grows faster than ours. i don't get the denial about it. its not like that means black hair doesn't grow at all. ♥
They're not trying to look black, just tannedActually, WW are spending fortunes to look like black chicks. Have you seen the prices for tanning salon packages?? Some of them wanna be black so bad it hurts.

They're not trying to look black, just tanned. It's a symbol of wealth and leisure. Some do it to look healthier...

That's why I said SOME of them wanna be black so bad it hurts. Some of the white girls in my hometown tan a lot and try to "act black". Those are the ones my post was referring to.
All I know is that I'm quite tired of the threads focusing on "mixed" hair. It's a really strange obsession with some people.
Plus, I'm just going to put it out there for discussion; but, 9 times out of 10 is created by someone darker-complected. The obsession is crazy. Just live your life already.
Yeah, I highly doubt white folks put this much thought into what black people are doing. Just throwing it out there. It's a nice fairy tale to tell little black kids that white people are tanning to look black, but that's not the case at all.![]()
I really wish people would stop using that. It always seems to have a negtive meaning to me. Like I am told that I "act white" because I talk proper and like all kinds of music and not just rap etc etc. It is really insulting because I know what they mean is "wow, I'm surprised you're not 'ghetto'!" or something else stupid. Oy.What is 'acting black'? The opposite of 'acting white'?

here is somthing to think about...
We hear alot how white people complains about if they dont wash their hair it gets really oily and only if a few days!!!
Maybe its just the natural oils that their hair produces so well that causes them to have great growth!!
I dont think our hair produce oil like that..If it did we would be washing our hair every day too!! since our hair doesnt maybe thats the reason why we have dryer hair.
its not a sin to to be curious about another race hair. not every thing we become curious about has to be beneficial...
Whoa I STRONGLY disagree.i agree. I hate when people say that white people are doing this and that to look black. I think white people get tans, lip inplant. butt inplants and all that stuff for to enhance their own beauty.
Thats why I hate when people try to say that black women are straighten their hair, wear weaves, or hell maybe even bleach their skin to be white.. People usually do things for beauty not to be like another race. most of the time.
the average growth rate of hair REGARDLESS of texture/race is 6 inches per year and people of ANY race can grow slower or faster than that so how did you come to that conclusion?
Smh, ya'll know that white people aren't checking for us like this so I don't know why folks are bothering themselves about it.
Maybe white people's hair does grow faster than ours.
Maybe it really and truly does.
And if it scientifically and without a doubt proven that it does, what are ya'll planning on doing with this information?
How will knowing that benefit your life?
Will it make your hair grow faster too?
No?
Oh.![]()
Hence:
Diff. b/w Afro-Caribbean & White = 3.6cm/year, or 1.41 inches/year.
Diff. b/w Afro-Caribbean & Asian = 1.89 inches/year.
I get trying to be honest and real, but sometimes it seems like we're just trying to be defeatist. Like we want there to be this huge chasm b/w "us" and "them" that explains why we can't do better.
As for the skin bleaching portionof COURSE it comes from a desire to be white or a desire to be "other then black". Skin bleaching is just pure self-hate.
Whoa I STRONGLY disagree.
When white girls get extensions, its NOT the same thing as what we do, and it not NEARLY as prevalent in their communities. White girls get extensions that match their natural hair texture and usually do it out of impatience however, they have an underlying knowlege that if they really wanted to, they could grow their hair to that same length of the extension hair, this is not the case for black women. Our history and complexes with hair run FAR deeper. The white girls do it too so its the same argulement is a joke.....its not the same and it will never be the same.

There is nothing wrong with that. But this whole thread is very off putting. I wish people were more curious about others and more wordly. There is nothing wrong with being curious about others the problems only arise when one compares and then says that one is better.its not a sin to to be curious about another race hair. not every thing we become curious about has to be beneficial...
Exactly. I just had a trim today and the stylist who did my hair (who is white) wished me good luck on my hair growth journey and told me that it was hard for her to grow her hair. SHOCKING!!! Not all white women know the secret to healthy hair growth either, who would have thought.Ok! The 1.41/1.89 inches does not explain the length difference we see IRL. So back to retention being the #1 culprit.
lol. okay i went to far with the skin thing...but ya neva know. maybe they just want to be light-skinned.
Actually the baldness gene gets passed on by the mother. Would you believe it?
