I loved the whole show.

Oprah's hair looked fab.

I'm glad Solange said that all hair is good hair. I was surprised that she got a relaxer at 4 years old. I dont care how kinky or "nappy" your hair is no one needs a relaxer at that age.

I can't wait to see the movie.

I didnt know white women color their hair so much.

Really?! Good Lord, most of them can't even begin to tell you what their original color was. Many start dying or bleaching it even in grade school.

I can't watch. Does anyone know where can I watch Oprah's show online?

In some places, it repeats late at night, so chech to see. If you wanna watching it online, someone gave a link. DVR it if you wanna watch and not stay up late!

Thats kinda like how it is with relaxers. Many women cant remember what their real texture is like because they have been relaxed their whole lives.

I dont get the obsession with blonde. I've seen some pretty women with dark hair.

I kinda figured her hair was relaxed. We still never saw a texture shot of it and a lot of times people will call a flat iron job "getting thier hair pressed out" My SIL says it all the time.

Plus when she said she gets it done everyday I was kind of put off by it. Nobody is going to hot comb thier natural hair everyday. Stylist or no stylist.

Tis true, all of it. For those who are older, they think lighter hair makes them look younger, so I've been told. :lachen: I honestly think most WW who choose blonde go too light for their complexions at whatever age. Funnily, most natural blondes I know dye their hair every color under the rainbow BUT blonde. LOL it's that "grass is greener" syndrome.

I'm encouraging a red headed friend of mine to use henna/cassia for strawberry blonde than to do the whole chemical white thing too many end up w/. :nono::grin:

Not only that, but alot of them blow dry and flat iron their hair everyday! And for some funky reason, their hair still either grows or just stay long.

If we did that with our hair, we would be bald :nono:

He he he....I think the show turned out pretty well. I'm really pleased with the explaination that Solange gave about her hair choice. I also liked the fact that she said she wanted to show her son that she could be just as beautiful w/o the extensions.....loves it!

I do like how they discussed the fact that at the end of the day, we all (black, white, latina, etc.,) just want to feel beautiful at the end of the day. I'm glad that Oprah exposed white women to the fact that they too have hair issues...

Well, not really. Many of the ones who do all this stuff to their hair have weaves or they end up w/ incredible amounts of damage. Of course their (tho not true w/ all ethnic groups, notably Jews) hair isn't as prone to dryness as African textured hair, but many of them simply hide the extent of their damage.

Ever noticed that a very blonde super straight WW will suddenly go brunette? Dying darker is a great trick for covering the damage. Of course, some will simply cut the damage off.

Yea, I was just saw that the link asks to fill out a survey:perplexed
I guess youtube might be the best option.

Allie said her hair was thin and breaking, so that just goes to show you that some WW can't do all that to their hair and expect it to stay long and pretty.

GRRR...its 4 over here on west coast time and "Oprah" is on but its old episodes..im so mad at them switching all the times that oprah & tyra come on. Now oprah comes on at 1 west coast time, and tyra comes on 4 west coast time..so i missed it. aint that a _____. hope someone posts it online

She got checked from a dude who wears an S Curl. Mmmmkay.

I have always loved Oprah's hair. Our hair type seems similar.

I'm in SD and Chris and Oprah are on now.

Are you serious? That's a misconception.I had a white roommate who was telling me how jacked some of her white friend's hair was from all the color, how brittle and breaking . And also that's when I learned about how a lot of them are turning to weaves too!

I thought it was a good show and was appreciative of Vanessa for going on there with her family and stating the reasons why she went natural. To show her baby that everyone is beautiful and hair doesnt define you. This show was great because you got to see both sides. It would of been nice if they touched more on natural hairstyles but Im sure thats not to far down the road

Omg! I live on the west coast and it is very, very
common for WW to have weaves(glued, sewn, glue tips)
whatever. Why is everyone acting like they just started?

On the regular I see the damage on both races. If I
carried scissors, they would be upset.:lachen:

I loved the show.

Loved Oprah's hair. Loved Solange's hair. Loved that WW's obsession with the dye job/straightening/extensions was also exposed....but I would have loved for Black women with long natural hair to have been included in the show somewhere.

Here's an observation I've made about race and weaves/extensions and I might be wrong, but bear with me.

I don't know many WW in my day to day life who wear extensions; HOWEVER, when I worked at an upscale retail store, it wasn't uncommon to come across a WW with extensions. Extensions for WW are usually pretty expensive because they have to use a certain quality of hair and the techniques are not cheap, so seeing WW with extensions is more common when you hit higher income areas, but tapers off as you go down the 'income ladder'.

With black women, extensions are a little more affordable and are available in some form to all income groups. Because of this, we're more likely to see black women sport extensions on a day to day basis.

If extensions for WW were more affordable and accessible to the working and middle classes, you'd notice the same trend.

Lastly, I think the wearing of extensions vs long natural hair has different meaning for blacks and whites. Extension wearing among WW is usually reserved for the rich and fabulous. Though many wealthy BW sport extensions, I find that having your own long hair to us is a 'status symbol', and you're more likely to see longer hair in higher income black communities.

Not necessarily true. Come visit Southern CA and I guarantee you will see WW across the economic board rocking extensions, especially in my suburb!

To be honest I did not know women went through all of this for these "full weaves". I am AA but never had one so "who knew"? My husband feels it is crazy for us women to obsess over it b/c he agrees with Chris Rock - the men care about the booty not the hair as much.

Very interesting.

I lived in Knoxville, TN for about 6 months. Everywhere I turned white women were crazy blonde, and travelled in packs. In middle America, I did not expect that.

I hope Oprah does a follow up, to give "SECRETS" black women use to have great healthy heads of hair.

Solange was so lovely and poised. And I love how Chris told her that she was typically beautiful with the long weave, but now with the twa, sh stood out and he was able to really see/appreciater her whole beauty. The take away from the show was to do what makes YOU happy.

OMG i thought Oprah had a lacefront or some pieces at least especially around the hairline bcuz it just looks like the lacefront...

I thought she used phyto relaxer and products.

But she does put Tyra to bed...her hair is so beautiful i need her regimen really...

why? because she didn't have on any makeup... it was a picture of her natural self

I can't hate Oprah for not wearing makeup I don't even know how to buy the stuff. Her face looked swollen, I just couldn't think about Oprah in that way, especially her eyes, but I guess we could say that she earned those bags with all the work she has done. (Don't take it as me coming at her head being offensive)
