I wonder if it is because my hair is naturally coarse and super thick. I have 4b hair type andit reminds me of a brillo pad. Hence, why I can't part it.

Do your products have silicones in them? I've noticed that the majority of my set backs and issues with matted hair centre around a product that had a -cone it in. You might want to go -cone free.

Your hair issues sound similar to mine. I read and posted in your other thread. I don't remember if I recommended this product to you yet or not. But the Just For Me 2-in-1 Conditioning Detangler has worked where all other products have failed.

OP, since you're steaming as you deep condition, have you tried detangling after you steam while the hair is still full of conditioner?

Also, once you get your hair detangled and you wear it in a bun, is it possible for you to wash your hair in sections? Like twist your hair into four sections and wash with the twists in? I hardly ever wash my hair when it's loose and that cut down on tangles and knots.

I also use a denmen brush - the knock off one from CVS. I really like it.

The next time you wash - please take a pic, so we can give a better assessment.

Thanks, I will def take what you said into consideration. No, I never tried washing my hair in sections. I just wash my whole head. How exactly do you wash your hair with twists in it? I will try to get a denman as well. Thanks again.

A friend of mine braided my hair last night in cornrows and like I predicted she couldn't even part my hair and I thoroughly detangled in the night before. I think my NG is just too thick and matted. :-(

Ok, no one has asked you the most obvious question, when was your last relaxer?

It doesn't make sense to me that relaxed hair (even with up to 2 inches of newgrowth) can't be combed. If you had a good relaxer earlier and were able to detangle your hair then, then your main culprit might be that you are stretching too long. Depending on how kinky and coarse your newgrowth as well as how much newgrowth has accumulated, the shorter the time period you can stretch.

You might not be able to to stretch past 8 weeks.

I know that when I have a growth spurt, I can't go past 10 weeks. However, the only time I ever have detangling issues with my 4b relaxed hair is after removing braids that I've worn for 8+ weeks. I have never had a problem combing my hair when it is not braided even up to 12 weeks post.

So did you just have a bad relaxer (were underprocessed) and therefore your hair was never really straight/manageable/comb-able? Otherwise, I think you might be breaking your hair by washing it so much while it's tangled and rebraiding it. I know for a fact that when I remove braids after 2 months on hair that has not been relaxed in 3 months, to never wet my hair before it is completely detangled. My experience has been that wetting tangled hair just helps it lock onto itself.

Good luck. :)

I am only 5 weeks post and I think my last relaxer was underprocessed, because the next day I felt waves at my roots. I can actually feel a lot of NG in there even though its has only been 5 weeks.

I was going to attempt to stretch my relaxer until November (15 weeks) because I keep reading about how good it is and it prevents over processing. I think the hair on my ends are over processed and I have very little hair at the nape.

I have 4b hair type, but would like to say its 4z. My new growth is extremely kinky and coarse. It's not wavy or soft. It's hard like a brillo pad. :wallbash:

I'm a 4b natural, but I didn't transition so I don't know what its like to deal with multiple textures. Maybe you should check out some of the threads on transitioning and stretching. I'm sure there are other 4bs that stretch to 15+ weeks. I want to say Sylver2 and/or dsylva(sp?) fit that profile, but I'm not sure.

Let me know when u try out that detangler. I want to know how it works for you

Please describe how you are washing your hair. As in, do you wash in the shower, back to the spout, head tilted back slightly, and let the showerhead do most of the work & your fingers do most of the detangling?

or are you pouring shampoo right on your head, and pushing it all over your head like the Herbal Essences shampoo commercials?

Please be as specific as possible :yep:

I wash in the shower only. I use the running water, fingers, and a wide tooth comb. Some times I am harsh with the washing. But I can get the ends detangled, the roots never. And once I get out the shower my hair clumps together.

I know you've been asked before but how many sections are you parting your hair into? More sections make for better conditioning and detangling.

When? If you mean while I am detangling then I use about 6 sections. And then I make those even smaller. But when I wash I do not section. But I think I will. Thanks
