I have been finger detangling for a few months now and I think it is working, but now I am scared. I detangle under the shower head and I think everything comes out. But what if it isn't?
I've been finger detangling on damp hair in between washes lately. But like others are saying that doesn't completely get rid of all my tangles unless I take a long time to do it, so I detangle with a comb on wet hair on wash days. Recently I started adding oil before I detangle with a comb, and that has been helping.
Mostly with soaking wet hair under the shower. I sometimes to try to remove shed hair by gently separating my strands on dry hair. But I shouldn't do that. I feel like my hair breaks more then.
I had to stop detangling on wet hair. My hair is much to fragile in that state and I dont have the patience. I now detangle on dry hair but with my fingers. Once its finger combed I spray it with a mix of water and cond to dampen it just a little and then run a comb through it.
Mind you this cant work for everyone, buts its saved me a lot of breakage and irritation
Destiny9109 I consider that damp. In my head wet is like in the shower or while dripping wet, damp is towel dried, and dry is anything less? Again, thats in my brain lol
I detangle with a paddle brush on wet hair saturated in conditioner in the shower. It takes me like five minutes at most. To do my whole head. I do not comb or brush my hair any other time.

Both wet after shampooing with slippy conditioner and a wet brush or from dry, dampened with conditioner and a wet brush, but I prefer the former because it goes much faster when my hair is wet and I use a lot less product.
No, I actually lose much less hair with a paddle brush then a comb. I wash my hair about every three days. I can safely say I get very few shed hairs- all with the white bulb ends attached and no breakage. It really depends on your hair type, though. Here is an article on using paddle brushes on natural hair:
Some people have more successes with brushes while for others it tips their hair out. However I think the key is never attempt to brush out dry hair. That would likely result in massive breakage and split ends. I only detangle in the shower with wet conditioner hair. I start at the ends of my hair and work my way up.
I finger detangle my hair wet with conditioner and use a wide tooth comb afterwards. I tried dry detangling with coconut oil once and I experienced a lot of breakage. Plus it took me a lot longer to detangle my hair dry than wet.
Still doing conditioner (vo5) under running water with a wide teeth comb. It makes detangling a breeze. I Also dampen my hair before washing and detangle as well
