Ok, so I recently posted about my hair problems about my hair being super dry, porous, and damaged. Since then I have been taking the right steps into treating my hair. I been co-washing 3 times a week, doing steam treatments with a moisture only conditioner, apply leave-in, moisturizer and seal with an oil. And most importantly no heat. I air dry and wear a bun all the time. I also baggy. So I am on the right track, thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

Now I have a problem that I cannot conquer. :nono: I cannot no matter what, detangle and or comb my hair. The comb will not go through. I been searching for answers via the internet, but I've done everything: I detangled dry, wet, semi wet, under running water (I only wash in the shower) with a detangler, or conditioner, I use only a wide tooth comb, I moisturize the new growth, I've tried using oils and glycerin on it, finger detangle, do it in sections. I purchased PM's The Detangler and that made it worst. I've done ACV rinses and PC. The comb just won't go through and my fingers won't either.

I am on a personal low manipulation challenge but how can I if I have to force the comb through my hair? I can't even part it. :wallbash:

I see the tutorials on YouTube and they can detangle right after they wash. I am so jealous, because I can't. I am only 5 weeks post. I have 4z, coarse hair. I don't know what to do. I don't want to use heat, but that is the only way I can comb it. I am supposed to get my hair cornrowed soon for low manipulation, but I am embarrased because I know the girl will not be able to part through my hair.

Does anyone else have this problem? I know some people will say not to comb it, but I really want to get the cornrows done soon. Please help you experience/d this. What helps? Is this because my hair is damaged. I think my hair is overprocessed, but not sure. Please help. I need all the help I can get.

I'm sorry if i didn't understood that but are you doing it in the shower with the conditioner on?
when i was relaxed, the day after a wash and go was very very difficult for me to detangle my hair. I usually put a DC before shampooing and the conditiones after shampoo and with enoygh water i wwas able to detangle my hair quite simple,

I was going to ask the same thing. Also, do you use anything to moisturize your new growth. If I'm not mistaken, while gushing about my favorite product S Curl, I could've sworn some ladies with relaxed hair shared success with it in softening their new growth. I am sorry I don't remember how well full head baggying works for relaxed hair but if it's good or works, I would highly recommend it as it seems to make S Curl soften hair even more probably from penetrating the strands.

I actually just bought some s-curl today and am going to try it tonight. I have tried glycerin and it doesn't seem to do anything for me after it dries. And I do the whole head baggying and once again after my hair dries, it's a hot mess. This is so frustrating. Thank you.

Try some cholesterol conditioner mixed with olive oil. Let it sit on your hair for about 20 minutes before attempting to comb, then rinse out and detangle in the shower in four sections.

Do you apply your DC directly to your new growth?

When I'm deep into my stretch, I apply my DC using a relaxer/color brush and put the DC directly on my new growth. That may help. :yep:

Yes I do detangle from the bottom up. And no I don't use a denman? I've heard of it, but what exactly is it? Thanks.

A denman is a brush that some hate and some, including myself, love. It its the only thing that can glide through my hair. I was wondering if your were doing it from the top because you said a comb can't run through it. When you do it from the bottom up you work on just a small piece at a time. Are you saying that once you have done that you can't run the comb through from root to tip? I'm sorry if I seem simple but I just can't understand how you can't run a comb through your hair under any circumstances unless you have dreads or you hair gets matted when you wash?

Do you apply everything to your hair with a downward motion? When you shampoo and condition are you piling the hair up on your head?

You say your hair is super dry, damaged and pourous BUT you didn't list that you have tried a porosity control shampoo and conditioner. It seems that your hair isn't holding moisture and probably needs this type of poo and condish. I believe some of the ladies here use the Roux brand with good results.

Get a porosity control shampoo and conditioner. This will solve your problem, probably. Also invest in a detangling comb they make detangling a breeze.

ITA: I would definitely incorporate PC into my Regimen. I also had super dry, porous, brittle, damaged hair (so I know), You Name it, I Had It.:perplexed

Also, regardless, I still had regular "Protein" treatments as part of my weekly regimen. I would use a Protein Treatment and then DC with a Moisturizing DC, and finish up with a PC Conditioning Rinse.

Totally Turned My Hair Around. It immediately did a 180!:yep:

Keep Me Posted.

try doing an oil rinse it's messy but it might help
i think you just dunk oil onto your wet hair
it should make it easier to comb through

Sounds nice, but I can't part my hair. So maybe I have to do it with my fingers instead. Thanks

I have incorporated PC in my regimen. But it tangles my hair even more. Also, my hair is currently suffering from protein overload, so I am laying off of protein for now. Then I will incorporate it back with a light protein. I think my hair is protein sensitive too. What are your staple products and you regimen? Thanks

Yes I try to detangle in the shower with conditioner. It works on the ends some what, but as soon as I get out of the shower it is tangled and I can't put a comb through it or part it. I think it gets matted. So when you put in a DC are you using heat as well? Thanks

Woah, clarification here, please. Are you waiting until products dry to try and detangle? I know it's a seemingly stupid question, but I had to ask. And what kind of conditioner are you using for your detangling? I found some conditioners did me more harm than good for detangling on my daughter's hair.

Wow this is a toughie. I remember your earlier posts too. Sorry about your situation, it happens to me sometimes too. Sometimes I find that when I pre-poo (putting a mixture of my DC, EVOO, coconut oil, and honey on dry hair) and sit under the dryer for about 30 minutes, it helps to soften the new growth and it's easy for me to detangle.

I'm not sure what DC you are using but not all DC's are created equal, for me some so called moisturizing conditioners cause my hair to tangle so I'm very careful when picking deep conditioners. Also what kind of comb are you using? I use the Jilbere comb I got from Sally (thanks LHCF) and it does a good job in detangling for me.

I would suggest that you reassess your deep conditioner, it may very well be the culprit.

do you go under the dryer to DC?

No, I do not wait until my hair dries to detangle it. I attempt to do it while its wet. But I've tried it semi wet and dry. All seem to not work. I know if I forced the comb through it would cause major breakage :nono:. I usually put in Yes to Cucumbers for a conditioner with PC afterwards. I have also tried PM's The Detanlger.

I use NTM to deep condition or Yes to Carrots Mask. I like both and I think they moisturize my hair pretty good, but I really can't tell (my hair feels the same regardless of what I do). I use an wide tooth comb (don't know that name) but its a good one. Thanks

Do you have any pics of your hair? Maybe a good pic of your hair will help a hair twin give some useful suggestions.

I've found the best way to combat detangling is to have to rarely detangle. So, instead of rocking my braid out to the end of the week when it still might look good, I rock it for only two or three days when detangling won't be so tough. I don't get as much time out of each style but when I do detangle I lose less hair and it is now where near as difficult.

So last night I washed again and low and behold the tangles were crazy. I decided to combat it and detangle it thoroughly (of course from the ends up). I lost so much hair, in my opinion. I don't how much hair loss is normal from detangling. It was a small ball of hair about the size of of a nickel and my hair is shoulder length. But I know I don't want to lose that much hair everytime I detangle, which is 3x a week. I think maybe it's best to detangle my hair while its semi-wet, damp. My hair just seems to get matted and I don't know why. Its ridiculous. And I have a few small knots in it as well. I am so frustrated. 4b hair types, how do you detangle? (I still welcome all advice though) I will post pics of my hair as soon as I can.

:( Hmm...I don't get why your hair isn't reacting well. I guess we'll have to wait until we can see some pics. Someone mentioned dunking your hair into the oil itself...messy but effective. Have you tried that yet? I'm picturing this working similar to oiling a ring stuck on a swollen finger...Instaslip! I hope it does. :)

Do your products have silicones in them? I've noticed that the majority of my set backs and issues with matted hair centre around a product that had a -cone it in. You might want to go -cone free.

Your hair issues sound similar to mine. I read and posted in your other thread. I don't remember if I recommended this product to you yet or not. But the Just For Me 2-in-1 Conditioning Detangler has worked where all other products have failed.

Ok I guess I will this a try.

I feel like my hair "sticks" together. And my new growth shrinks so it is somewhat matted. But my hair just clumps together and will not separate. Anyone with this problem?

I did buy this and it does seem to help a little. So should I put S-curl on my hair when its dry or wet still?

Detangling is the last thing I do before twisting/braiding/rolling my hair to dry. I load my hair up with something like HH LTR and detangle the section I'm going to set. Then seal with oil, add a tiny bit of gel and twist/etc. I used to try to do it once in the shower, but when I got out, it was a mess again. If you haven't been able to detangle fully in a while, that may not have been alot of hair to lose, so don't panic. Now that you have done it, I would french braid or twist or something at night, then wrap with a scarf. This keeps me largely tangle free throughout the week plus forces mini detangling sessions each night when I section my hair for the braids.
