I think this thread isnt getting recieved as well as the other one because we all know there was a misconception that "full black" girls/women could not grow their hair long....and someone wanted to make a post to see if their were any other "full black" women with long hair on this forum to basically prove the stereotypes wrong, and have encouragement

Their really were no stereotypes about "mixed" girls not being able to grow long hair, so maybe people feel like this thread is just pridefull or to just start an opposite thread

*shurgs*

I would love to hear some answers :look:

Wow.

I have an entirely DIFFERENT view of both threads.

I THOUGHT the whole point was to POINT OUT just how varied the hair of those who can SHOW that they are 'mixed' or '100% black' is. To quite simply, BREAK DOWN those sterotype of 'all african hair is like this' and 'all mixed girls hair is like this'

Good heavens, these threads SOOOO could have shown us all just how SIMILAR we are - no matter what we might 'classify' ourselves as.

*sigh*

Danngone shame it had to fall into people bringing their OWN issues around hair and color into things.

Who brought issues? Disagreeing with a post means you have issues?
If a thread was about showcasing variety then it could easily say THAT.

That's right I did it....

Miss Divine's thread help raise alot of questions and answer ones that for quite some time considered to be "taboo"...I created this thread because I want to know how it was/is for girls that grew up like me... I would like this thread to be more geared towards girls that are mixed... with black
You can have asian, hispanic, white..IDC (I dont care)..BUT you must be mixed with black..and something else... I think this will be educational for other girls that are mixed and have had/ or have some of the same issues with thier hair or just have questions that havent been answered for "various" reasons...and educational for me too

What is your flavor? (what are you mixed with)
Were you natural or relaxed as a child? what are you now?
What length were you at the time?
What was your hardest hurdle with your hair? (can be emotional, physical or mental)
What is your hair "type" (you DONT have to catergorize, you can describe it)

**DISCLAIMER** DO NOT use my thread to down ANYONE'S feelings, ideas or ideals... Others can post postively if they wish...but none of that other stuff (yall know what I mean)

Where in that post did she say anything about HAIR TYPE? Where does she say 'only 3b girls allowed?' Where does she 'limit' variety?

:nono:

If reading what the OP WROTE and not what others interjected into it is having the wool pulled over my eyes.....well, I guess I'm the one with the sheep, no?

Panama's Own - I'm sorry your thread turned into - this. Maybe one day.

ITA. One thing we have to bare in mind is that no matter how much "elightened" we appear to be on LHCF aka the internet. That is not always the case. People's issues do not just go away just because they found LHCF. Some stuff have been embedded in them from the womb, and all of a sudden a few months or years of LHCF are just meant to change that? :ohwell:. Panama was just asking a simple question, i thought a GOOD correlation was going to come out of this that would show that mix, "100%" black and everything in between have similarities. People are looking into this too seriously, it ain't even that deep.

Everyone pays their $5 to have their say, why must they get penalised when it breaks the "silent" rules. Its a forum, come on! Just as much as we can talk about the "good" we can talk about the bad. It does amaze me that the response on the pure black thread was positive, yet the mixed one is so negative. All people are entitled to their say. On a level if you a typical black girl nothing mixed and you've never had long hair, you are naturally going to seek encouragement fromt hose that can relate to you vice versa if your mixed. E.g mixed girls may be tired of people having this perception that life is "easier" for them when it comes to hair!

It seems like all these forums are finally becoming a like...extremerly militant, just in their own way...

She means their issues with the idea that black women are just as normal and can grow hair as long as anyone else.

So, wait! Where do I qualify?:lachen::lachen::lachen:

Why can't mixed people/biracial people be proud or happy about their hair without folks getting all offended?

Nope, I'm not mixed, so, I don't fit in here either.

I kinda knew that was what this thread was about cuz I AM SO TIRED of the box we put ourselves in. Mixed people look one way, with a certain type of hair and full black looks one way with 4x hair. Its annoying, and its not biologically correct and for us to segregate ourselves or give people a hard time about who they are because they don;t fit our box is ridiculous. I was hoping the thread would get answers so others could see, but something told me it wouldn;t happen

I think thats exactly the issue.

The problem would probally not be as "severe" if this thread didnt come right after a "100% black with long hair & proud" thread---but now it probally seems like this thread is trying to take away from the other when "mixed" women supposedly dont have as many hair issues as all black women.

I know that where im from some people take mixed women with long hair as a "given", and 100% black with long hair as an "accomplishment".....So that maybe the mixed women dont have the "right " to be proud :ohwell:

I would love to see hair problems that mixed women encountered and how long their hair was all of their lifes because i had always thought that most mixed women had long hair the majoirty of their life, and no struggles contrary to myself (ETA before i found LHCF)

Theres nothing wrong with just discussing as long as we dont act like one side deserves more praise, and start dividing ourselves

Crissi, I'm going to break it down and then I will answer the OP's questions.
The reason why the 100% black thread was so well-recieved is because a.) Newbies or lurkers posted their true feelings. Like you said, a few months of LHCF won't change anything and since we are not used to hearing people be blunt about their feelings on black beauty in the past, the truth is pretty shocking.
2.) People fessed up to their honest thoughts towards those who were biracial. No matter how long one's hair will grow, many will still come up with excuses. You just cannot stop people from believing that bi-racials and non-blacks can grow hair longer than regular ole black people. Hair can be past their behind and they will still assume that there's another more sinister motive for their heritage to betray their ideas. We're using ayurveda and dominican products, what does that say about indians and hispanics? THAT THEY TOO, HAVE HAIR ISSUES!
We buy up the whole of Elucence, Pantene and other "white" brands if we didn't think they would work?

ITA. I didn't see any posts where folks got out of pocket. If people would have just answered the questions, this could have been an insightful thread. I think people just looked at the title and thought "another divisive good hair vs bad hair" thread and .

It was a joke. But, the wool was pulled over my eyes with the other thread. I think the OP just wanted to put a tongue-in-cheek counter post.

because for some reason unless you look like mya or alicia keys u are not mixed and if u are and look like say jada pinkett, ur SOL:look:. The whole thing is annoying. Why are we always trying to quantify each others blackness?

I agree. People are misunderstanding the OP's intention here. The first thread was to give some hope to a small, select group: 100% black girls who didn't have long hair as a child but do now. People kept chiming in saying they were excluded.... SO this thread was started so they could be included!!!! OP was trying to be inclusive.

And I never got the idea that "all mixed chicks have type 3" mentality from this thread. WHY would she *ask* what hair type you have if she's so sure all mixed girls are type 3?!?

I think we need to calm down, take a breath, and give one another the benefit of the doubt before jumping on someone. And doesn't it say in the forum rules that you should NOT jump in a thread to say how stupid it is, you should just refrain from commenting???

That's right I did it....

What is your flavor? (what are you mixed with)
Guyanese indian, Syrian( supposedly) and white
Were you natural or relaxed as a child? what are you now? always chemically-treated. At 4, my mother put a jheri curl in my hair. BT and other hair oils bring back memories of dripping all over NYC.:lachen::lachen::lachen:
What length were you at the time? Never had long hair.
What was your hardest hurdle with your hair? (can be emotional, physical or mental) The Scisssors. It's as if people don't think I can grow it, so they insist on cutting it. Just cutting to be cutting, because obviously I don't want nor can acheive a change in my look. Dammit, if I say trim, 1/8 of an inch is a trim! Also, extreme dryness, but it's no long a hurdle.
What is your hair "type" (you DONT have to catergorize, you can describe it)
Coily curls. I can still see a definite springly curl pattern. No zig-zags or "z"s. I'm about a 3c/4a

I'm sayin! Stop the damn cutting:rolleyes:

This was very educational for me as I said in the beginning it would be...

I leave to go to class and come back to EXACTLY what I expected....

Yes.. what I said about myself was true..but, what I have seen from some of you today..have shown me that we have only progressed very little...

LHCF stands for LONG HAIR CARE FORUM....... NOT BLACK LONG HAIR CARE FORUM, NOT NEGRO HAIR CARE FORUM...it is a generalization for ALL women who are wanting to have long hair...

yes in the other thread, MANY women were saying that they felt left out..SO, as I posted in there, I hope that if someone were to write a thread, asking some of the same exact question, BUT based on another race, it would be received with open arms the same way... CLEARLY.... I CAN SEE THAT THIS WASNT THE CASE....

those who answered my questions..or didnt (POSITIVELY) understood what I meant by opening this thread...so it good to see, that IGNORANCE, doesnt dwell within them.....
You should be ashamed of yourselves, those of you who turned this into YOUR own FIGHT for BS...that I didnt even orginally post....SO many of you dont realize how you downplay "mixed chicks" just because of a so-called stereotype..but if someone comes in here talking about how they are proud of their 100% blackness and their nappyness, YALL PRAISE THEM TO THE HIGH HEAVENS!!!!

BUT GOD FORBID that anyone comes in here and talks about their beautiful mix...ITS bragging!!!!! Yall are the mess...and should check yourself and the double standards that you support....

I'm confused. If a person's mom is black and from the USA and their dad is black and from a Hispanic country, does that really make them mixed??? Isn't it all black/of the negroid persuasion??

OK... I am really doing a lot of thinking about the race issue, and I was going to put this on both of "the threads" before the other one gets lost, and this one too.

I tried to define race and I posted in the OT forum and wanted to see what yall thought of as race (the ones who believe they can determine if someone is mixed, etc by hair type) because obviously that is what a lot of the issues are coming from.

I feel like we are on a board about hair type and here we are having people getting trashed for being mixed, and people who think they are more black than others. Its like if someone isn't too black they aren't black enough.:nono:

http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=195353

Who did this?
I saw it in the other thread and in various "my hair cannot grow like yours" by a certain poster and the responders. You always have to read between the lines @ LHCF, because no one really said what they were thinknig until today. You know when someone isn't trusting your advice.

Also, when people make statement along the lines of "I don't know why newbies are answering questions like they are pros", "why everybody got a blog to be like __________" or " Do 4a/b/c/d//e/f/gs only have to deal with...", they too are discrediting reliable sources because they don't trust them. And it usually stems from their own personal issues that cannot be solved by enlightenment.
