thank you!

I am going to try that more often!
BTW--- Nice abs!

Kiss = Keep It Simple Sister

Lol, one of my teachers from high school used to say it meant to Keep It Simple Stupid, lol. Which is what the original version actually is... :yep:

My hair thrives on simplicity...

the only thing that stops my breakage is when I deep condition once a week with a light protein conditionner (Motions CPR), it stops my breakage and moisturize so I think to stop breakage I need both protein and moisturizer.

I can attribute my minimal breakage to weekly deep conditioning treatments, a good leave in, and keeping my ends hydrated and protected.

Kerastase Ciment Thermique. Stops breakage dead in it's tracks, transforms my texture (4 a/b), and gives hair a beautiful sheen. Only works with heat. Definitely worth the money.

I can't believe I am replacing all of my protein and reconstructing staples because of this product. Also, I will no longer use Chi Silk Infusion when flat-ironing (been using it for over 3 years now) because this product does what CSI did for me times 100!!!

Totally ... totally ... totally worth every single penny!!

Shout out to Ballet_Bun for putting me on to this.

Well first you need to pluck one of your hairs from your head and slowly stretch it. When I always do this my hair snaps which means I need more moisture...which is always the case. If it stretchs to much then you know you need protein to recontruct your hair.

how much stretching is too much stretching? I know there's supposed to be *some* stretching, but when is it considered * too much*?

i'm going through a breakage period now, mostly because of being neglectful with my hair last year (highlighting with no regular protein treatments), so my hair needs protein to rebuild the shaft.

i up the protein and continue to moisturize as much as possible. i start with a medium protein and work my way up, making sure to deep moisturize after a treatment.

I am in total agreement with you. I just started using Kerastase Ciment Thermique, and have been very pleased with the results.

I use APhogee 2 min reconstructor and moisture treatment, I also use protective styles 99.9% of the time.

Satin scarves/bonnets while sleeping, shampooing less, co-washing more, using leave-in conditioners & moisturizers like SCurl & Sta-Sof-Fro, low manipulation, baggies (I <3 Baggies!) and...er...thats about it.

Oh yeah, and NO HEAT... that has done wonders to get me through the transition to natural.

When my hair is breaking I do a protein treatment. Sometimes I use a light-medium one like Motions CPR (with egg if it's major breakage) or a heavy one like Jheri Redding Natural Protein. That stops my breakage immediately. I don't usually get breakage anymore though.

I voted other, because it really depends on WHY my hair is breaking.
Once, it was breaking because of oversue of henna.
Once, it was breaking because it was too dry.
Once, it was breaking because it was too moist.
Once, it was breaking because it was too oily.....

 My hair is picky, yes.

Anyhow, to correct each of those breakage root causes, I had to do something different.

Never heard of garlic being used to stop breakage though, just shedding.

I had major breakage lately and this is what I did....I prepooed with Aphogee protein conditioner and sealed it with Jojoba oil. I left it on my hair for 30 minutes. I didnt get under the dryer because i was busy cleaning the house. I dont think that makes much of a difference anyway.

Then I washed it out with clarifying shampoo, only because i had the jojoba oil on my hair and i have to claryfy that out or else my hair will be sticky after the wash and dry process. Then I followed up with a moisturizing KeraCare shampoo (this step you can leave out if you want, I just do it to get that silky feeling back in my hair after the clarifying shampoo.) Lastly, I put on a deep conditioner and leave it in my hair for ten to fifteen minutes.

After I rinse the DC out, I spray on a leave in conditioner and sit under the dryer. When I ran the comb through my hair, there was a tremendous difference from the amount of hair that came out in my comb...only a few strand compared to the handfuls that were coming out before the protein treatment.

Avoiding ROUGH manipulation of my hair whether its washing, combing, styling, or what-have-you...

ITA :)
When I stopped using combs and brushes altoghether, my hair grew a lot! Meaning, the ends didn't break so that I could actually keep them as my hair grew. That is what took me beyond waist length.

Depends on what the breakage is from. When my hair had damage then I didn't start to grow it out without trims until all of my hair had the damage cut off. Damage from overlapping, flat irons and strong perms left on too long is not repairable. I could coat the hair to change the texture but once hair was damaged from doing to much to it and that includes combing/brushing I cut till it was totally healthy and then began growing it. Now I'm BSL and trim it twice a year for a total of an inch or two.

I think NappyWomyn said it best: you must assess the CAUSE of the breakage before you try to treat it or you may just be attacking a symptom.

If my hair is breaking because it's dry, I find out why it's dry:
---If it's dry because it's out of balance, I find out how the balance if off.
---If it's dry because it has too much build-up, I give it a good clarifying.
---If it's dry because it's porosity is out of balance, I treat it for that and then do a moisturizing treatment.

If my hair is breaking because the ends are chewed, I cut them off.

If my hair is breaking because of a new product I just tried, usually conditioner, I re-read the contents to find out if it contains heavy proteins as my hair does NOT like heavy proteins. Then I do a moisturizing treatment and avoid using the product again.

If my hair is breaking because it's too elastic (i.e. you pull and pull and the strand seems like it's never gonna break; more like a rubber band than hair), I give it a protein treatment followed up by a moisturizing treatment.

If my hair is breaking because it's acid balance is off, I treat it to bring the pH levels back to normal.

The #1 solution will depend entirely on the cause of the ailment. I mean, if you're getting a big belly, you can do all the crunches you want, but if the cause is that you're pregnant, they won't help much. :lachen:HTH!!

Yep. I would try lo-manipulation and moisturizing alot...I know I have to moisturized my hair about 5 times a day. And it really helps.

Balance is my #1 solution to stop hair breakage. I'll say it a thousand times, you have to ask yourself why your hair is breaking and be willing to accept the answer. Its easy to look at polls and posts and see a particular method working wonders (protein, moisture, oils, etc.) but they may not be the answer.

I lost half my hair volume because I "treated" my breakage with protein and didn't balance it with moisture.

Like everything in life, it's all about balance. Once I got that, my breakage stopped.:yep:

Preach, preacher.

I second that notion. Same thing happened to me, but I started weekly dc sessions and now my hair is doing much better.
