If my hair is excessively shedding, garlic shampoo always does the trick. If I'm experiencing breakage, which I attribute to dryness, I give myself a hardcore protein treatment, followed by a goooood deep conditioner (my staple keracare humecto), then I moisturize while my hair is sopping wet. Then every other day I remoisturize. The next week, I use a light protein treatment.

My severe breakage was due to a lack of protein. The breakage has decreased tremendously since I've added AO GPB (on a regular basis) & Aphogee 2-min (for braids & flat-ironing) to the mix.

To Combat The Issues I was having with my Hair --- I implemented a strict Regimen of Protein & Moisture Treatment(s) until the Breakage Subsides.:yep:

I dont usually experience this but it depends on why its breaking. Just do everything different.....

aubrey organics gbp conditioner has helped me a lot. i was experiencing breakage and have been using this for the past few weeks and have noticed a decrease. i also stopped using a moisturizer with cones and used porosity control for two of the last washes. i've continued to moisturize and deep condition. not sure if this is the answer for everyone, but it works for me. i also i've started washing every 7 days instead of every 10.

EDIT: for whatever reason, ao gbp stopped working so i switched to joico kpak and haven't looked back! i no longer have breakage anymore!

I recently experienced some breakage during my stretch. I did a 2 minute aphogee treatment followed by a deep moisturizing conditioner. It really did the trick. Prior to that I had tried Pantene breakage defense mask and it didn't do a thing for the breakage. So I will just be using that as a regular deep conditioner, not for serious problems.

Low manipulation!!! :yep: No No No Heat what so ever!!! Satin pillow case and scarf if it's not too humid or hot. Bunning. Trying to keep from combing my hair to the ends to a minimum, maybe twice a week or so.

Gentle detangle with lots of conditioner
Sleeping with head covered
Keeping hair off shoulders
No heat
Henna

The Joico Kpak does it for me. After that I use a moisturizing conditioner and though I still have breakage it's always less. Also, ORS conditoner does a superb job also. I've noticed that since I've been NOT FLATIRONING - my hair breaks more w/ the twist/braidouts. When my hair is flatironed it's not tangled and I get a small amount of breakage (like a couple hairs in the comb).

HENNA

HENNA

HENNA

Did I mention Henna? :drunk:

Yes you did but I will say it again: HENNA!

Yup this is what does it for me, it's more effective for me than protein treatments and I don't have to worry about over load. I can get STRONG hair and do treatments as often as I like. I love henna!

I voted other... keepin my hands outta it stops breakage for me.. Alot of manipulation = snap crackle and pop...

Keeping direct off of my hair (except for once a year when I flat iron it)
Only doing wash'n go's or rollerset
and my biggest one is AVEDA DAMAGE REMEDY (I still can't believe I will spend so much on just conditioner!)

Moisture, scalp massage and when my hair is not wrapped bunning and baggying it with a scarf at night. Also wearing it up in a bun as often as I can.

Protein treatments, moisturize, and I take garlic supplements. I really do not have a problem with breakage, it seems to help my normal shedding not be too much.

Once I got rid of my relaxer and started using leave in conditioners that was it. For once the inch I grow a month stays on my head! My hair doesn't even really shed. I see about ten hairs in a pick a day, maximum.

When I have this problem I have to assess what I'm doing to my hair and what I'm putting in my body. Sometimes I'm doing everything right with my hair but if I'm not consistant with my supplements or I'm eating too much junk food, I see the affects with my hair.

I rarely get breakage since joining this forum but i've done stupid things a couple of times and used Affirm 5 in 1 to stop it followed by a moisture DC. Of course I had to cut the damage once also. Sometimes you just have to.

STOP using HEAT! No blow dryers or Flat irons... only use heat when DCing and put on a shower cap so the heat isnt directly blasting on your strands.

Whenever I experience breakage, I mix an egg with my conditioners and let it sit for a while (15 min - 1 hr/depends what I'm doing). I rinse the treatment out in COLD water and the breakage is halted immediately!

I follow up w/ a deep moisturizing conditioner so that I'm don't overload the protein. Apply a leave-in and I'm all set. 99.9% of the time I'm in protective styles (donut bun) so there is little to no manipulation. I make sure to keep my ends moist and my head is always protected at night.

This works for me and I have achieved growth and able to retain length.

Using steam when I deep conditions helps my hair to remain more supple and flexible which really helps to minimize the breakage.
