Hi Ladies,

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but there is a stylist in Atlanta who has a radio show every week and I found an archived episode a/b the black salon experience, and wanted to post the link and see what you all thought a/b what she's talking a/b.

She also has other topics that I am going through listening to one by one...I think that some of us should chime in to what she's saying or to give our experiences (as she does have opinions a/b the "kitchen-tician")

There's also another episode on Natural vs. Relaxed hair that I thought was really interesting...

Comments? :)

Being a Kitchen-tician is what saved me:yep:

Well, I listened to her other episodes, and she really isn't against consumers doing their own hair per se. However, she is hell-bent on getting relaxers done professionally (of course ;)), and she actually has good viable reasons. She is also realistic in knowing that ppl are going to do what they're going to do and wants to educate ppl in that. She mentioned that clients ask their stylists questions a/b their methods, and if the stylist gets an attitude or doesn't answer, to go to someone else (and to have a backup stylist or 2 if need be). I think that's awesome :yep:

Thanks for the link.

Even after becoming more of a DIYer, I still miss having someone do my hair for me at times. However, I came to despise being in the salon for hours and feeling dependent on them, so I started going just for my relaxer TUs. I felt like my stylist never listened to me.

Lately, I've gotten a few wash and sets at the salon, but I've noticed that since I had stop frequenting my stylist so much, she is now much more attentive to my wishes(even though she thinks the principles I've learned on these hair boards are nuts ) and at least attempts to get me out in a more reasonable amount of time.

If enough of us make them feel it in their pockets, they will change.

I especially fancied the tip where you send a letter or postcard to the stylist you are no longer seeing, telling them WHY you stopped coming. That'd definitely be a wake-up call :yep:

Yup, I liked that too. I'm a wimp, so I need the anonymous thing. My stylist is my cousin, so I told her to her face though.

Luckily, I've never had anyone eat fried chicken over me.:nono: I hope she was kidding about that.

Thanks for the links...

I dont like how she said that natural hair is a "fad"

I think that she is just telling herself that so she can keep hope alive that she will be able to pay her house note in the future...:lachen:

She better get with the program and learn how to do natural styles cause the end may be near if she keeps that attitude...

Overall, I enjoyed the links.

I hear ya :yep: What's good is that she had Taliah Waajid on there with her :drunk: That woman has skills, and has been in the ATL for yrs, and a reputable advocate for natural hair.

I think her shows are fairly balanced--as balanced as a [biased] hairstylist's show can be ;)
