I believe for me 3 times so far that i've had to cut my hair.
and i'll be cutting it again i may do it slowly or all at once.

Hi everyone,

I am very new here. Just starting over from loosing most of my hair from micros done in 2005. I had a relaxer then, and each time I held my hair in a pony, I could feel my real hair break. Needless to say, when I took off my braids, I had lost at least 50% of my hair, chopped it all off and started braiding and doing cornrows till now when I have recently relaxed my virgin hair again. This is approximately growth from spring 2006.

Good luck to y'all

I cut it once for a makeover that I was doing on TV that was back in 2002.

It was really short but it was already natural and in pretty good shape. Then I started to do the hard press and curl again almost weekly or at least every 2 weeks.

Got all of those burned beyond recognition parts removed by dusting for about 2 years and have been going strong since.

Just once, Thank God!

In Dec. 2005, I was self-relaxing and decided to let the relaxer "marinade" on my "resistant areas." Well, these areas promptly broke off. After a trim to even things up, my hair was neck length. Six months later I found LHCF, and I've been growing strong ever since.

I BC 4 times in 5 years of being natural due to damage/breaking. Last big chop was 8 months ago and I don't plan to do anymore. if I experience damage again, I'll just try to nurse my hair back to health without BC

1. 2003 colored shoulder length natural hair broke off
2. Sissor happy from 04 - 06
3. 2007 hair broke off from neglecting it summer of 06
4. May 2007cut broken shoulder length hair to neck length
5. November 2007 started relaxed hair journey with shoulder length hair

Soo many times I cannot count anymore:blush:...that's bad...but seriously about 5 or 6 times....I know how to start over good though :lachen:. I always get microbraids (I always find braiders that do them neat but never super tight to pull out my soft hair) and wear about three or four different sets of those and then cut off all my damaged hair and start over. It's what happens after the start over, where I always go wrong.

Some of my Reasons for start overs:
-the relaxer was not washed out well behind my ears hair broke off completely :wallbash:.
-I did not understand that I cannot plug up curling irons everyday and maintain healthy hair (high school mistakes):perplexed.
-Stress, I'm a college student and when I get stressed my hair shows it

So now I am here at LHCF trying to learn how to take care of my hair and stop being a serial start-over'er.

OT: I'm lovin that bun in your siggy!

Many:

~I was natural all my life
~Then I relaxed my hair in 1998/9
~Then I shaved my head in August 2000
~Then I relaxed again in March 2004
~Then I BC in May 2005 to the less than 1'2" and have been natural ever since

I've learned ALOT during my many phases. It have been wanting long healthy hair since 2000, and it's only since my last big chop that I can 100% see myself getting it. Why? Because I learned the meaning of patience. If I had remained patient since my first big chop, I would have had grown at least 28" of hair by now. Had I been patient after my 2004 relaxer, my hair would have been at least 17" long now (relaxers weakens my hair alot, but that's another story). So now I'm more patient than ever, and I know that I will achieve my goals, even if I think my hair grows slower than I'd prefer. In 2-4 more years I will definately achieve my hair goals.

I've had a few mishaps in my life, but I've only had one major cut since joining LHCF in 2004. I got about 5 or 6 inches cut (on purpose) in September 2007 and went from BSL to below SL. It has almost been three months since the cut and I'm already seeing a lot of growth (not quite back to full APL yet, but almost). Since I'm still not 100% natural yet, I will eventually have to endure another major cut again some time in the future.

I am currently starting over as of Friday. :( I self-relaxed last week for the first time and it was very successful! I made APL! I needed a slight trim so I visited a highly recommended stylist who became scissor happy. I am no longer APL now. I don't even have the desire to update my album as planned.

I started my hair journey exactly 3 years ago this month, so I should have reached my ultimate goal (BSL) by now. Unfortunately, I had to start over 3 times:

June 2005--My hair stylist chopped off about 2 inches because constant breakage was creating lots of split ends throughout my hair.

Oct 2005--More breakage caused more splits, so I big-chopped down to 4 inches all around.

Sept 2006--In the year after the October big chop, I abused heat, didn't moisturize adequately, completely ignored protein and could count the number of times I deep conditioned on one hand. My hair was weak and mushy so I cut it down to about 4-5 inches all around.

In between this big cuts, I had lots of smaller cuts/trims the kept me stuck at shoulder-length for 3 years.

I've learned alot since that last big cut, and I'm confident that it will be my last time starting over due to negative reasons!

This would be my third time that I am trying to grow my hair out. I feel really good about this one:grin:.

Once. Last year in Dec. I got my head shaved now I have about 5 1/2 inches of hair. I will never mistreat my hair again. That was not a good thing to go through.

I felt like I was the one who had to start over more than twice. i thought it was four times but if you count the time I went natural i guess you could say 5. I just couldnt understand why I kept having all these setbacks but I'm not gonna focus on them. I'm just gonna take care of my hair and let it do what it do:)

Since finding hair boards this will be my third -- and definitely last -- big chop: 1st time was in '98, 2nd time was in '01, third was in early '06. i've learned a lot about myself & my hair in the process -- and finally know what works for my hair. i'll be so glad when i reach waist length. I might even have to throw a party :grin::grin:
