or some extremely short length? I don't know if I do because Oprah was saying the same thing when her hair was actually longer than when it is on her show as a teenager? I just find it hard to believe that someone's hair has never been longer than neck length or the top of their neck. I've heard this before but I said maybe they forgot that it was longer when they were little.

So, do you think some people exaggerate?:ohwell:

I believe them. I remember in the past when hair care was not spread out as it is now. I saw a lot of chewed up hair that would not ge past a certain length. I was one of the people who claimed she could not go past shoulder length. I'm still there but it's much much healthier.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

You better believe it coz my hair never has :wallbash:. But you'd also want to know what my regimen was......NONE!!! It was never moisturised...never nothing :giggle:... save for the occasional greasing in the name of moisture :nono:. My sisters would cut their hairs 3 or 4 times and their hair grew back way longer than mine in no time! Boy am I thankful I found LHCF at last or what :yep: . I am giving myself 6 months at it better be longer than my neck then :look:

It definitely will be when you commit to the extra tlc, you've come to the right place.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I can't imagine why someone would lie about that. It is actually quite a traumatic thing. My hair has never been longer than neck length. And my hair history is filled with a lot of stories about how a chemical and poor care caused my hair to fall out. It seems like my hair would get to what I nicknamed "the magic length" then it would begin to break off. The breakage would always start in the same spot every time. When that would happen I usually just cut it off. Since I have been on the LHCF I have notice that my hair seems to be retaining the growth. but my hair is approaching the "the magic length" once again, so I am getting a little nervous that history will repeat itself once again.

These or the changes I have made
No more daily heat. Maybe once a month I will straighten my hair to see the length.

No more dry days I keep my hair moisturized, usually with coconut oil, or my hair concoction mixed with, mtg, cyanne pepper, pepperment oil and so on.

very low manipulation. I keep my hair in "Ole lady braids" you know the kind that the little ole church ladies sport when they are at home and they take their wigs off.

I baggy my hair most night. If I don't when I wake up I add a moisturizer. My hair has been so deprived of it, it's a moisture whore.

and I co-wash and splash a little infusum 23 leave co in my hair daily

and I have not had a relaxer since april.

Ok that's it sorry this is so long

Uhmm yes:look:. ok, I had one episode where it was long when I had a jherri curl in the 1980's:grin:. It promptly fell out once I got rid of that style:grin:.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

My Mom's hair stayed at neck-length until she reached her 50's.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

i believe them.

i know for me, when i say my hair was never longer than neck length - i mean for most of my years from age 4 and up....i had longer hair when i was younger, BUT i didnt even know i had longer hair until i found a picture of myself at age 2 a few years ago. soooo...i dont count that because i didnt really get to enjoy it. haha

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yeah, I know girls who have had relaxers at age 5!!! (Which I think is negligent) But anyway, Moms tend to pass their bad habits down to their daughters.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yes I believe them. I know plenty of people this has been true for. A lot of people truly believe that their hair does not grow or is not meant to be long.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I believe them. There is a lot of bad hair care info that people are basing their hair styling choices on.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

i believe it and i know it's true for a fact for some of my relatives :yep:

most are telling the truth. especially when their first relaxer is at age 5

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yes i believe them, cos i was one of them

Until i came to this board

Yay me!!!

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I can believe it!

Same here....my older sister is one of them. Another thing I notice is for some reason, some people hair will get healthier and thicker, but not longer. Or maybe they arent patient enough to wait for the length and give up, but many ppls hair grows OUT before it grows DOWN. Two examples I can think of are my sister and a friend, both of who I gave a hair regimen for them to use on hair that was absolutely jacked. Both got improvement as far as health and thickness, but neither have gotten length and its been over a year. My sister wears falls all the time and other than that just washes and conditions and moisturizes...yet it isnt growing. Now she just gets mad at me if I try to offer more suggestions...she says she gives up and her hair wont grow like mine. My hair used to be totally jacked (dry, brittle, chewed up) too, but turned around with healthy hair practices. I dont think its true that some people CANT grow long hair, but I think it takes even more effort, time, and patience for some people than it does others.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

i have grown APL before (as an adult but i had a beautiful stylist, did not know anything about hair care then) but i have a friend that has never gone beyond neck length- she claims her hair does not grow which i dont believe, she relaxes like every 6-8wks with super, never moisturises, usually in weave, does not give her hair a break between relaxing and weave, all the bad practices, she uses cotton scarf.............., i could go on and on, sometimes does not use neutralising shampoo, just regular shampoo.
anyway to cut the long story short i believe them

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I had scalp problems like eczema, some alopecia so ive been in the TWA stage since I was born:perplexed

Thinks are getting good now tho

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

What's not to believe?

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

YES, I BELIEVE BECAUSE I WAS ONE OF THEM. I SEE IT NOW WITH MY SISTERS AND COUSINS. THEIR HAIR HAS NEVER BEEN PAST NECK LENGTH. IT'S ALMOST LIKE A GENERATIONAL CURSE - SINCE NO ONE KNEW HOW TO MAINTAIN HAIR, NONE OF US HAD ANY. NOW THAT I'VE LEARNED THE THINGS THAT I'VE LEARNED FROM LHCF, MY HAIR, AS WELL AS SOME MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY'S HAIR, HAVE GROWN TO THE LONGEST IT'S EVER BEEN IN OUR LIVES. THANK GOD!!!

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

i think its true i have seen so many people with this problem, before lhcf, the longest hair i would see in real life was shoulder/apl:yep:

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yep, I believe it. My hair has been BSL before but it was in bad condition. After being here 2 years I've been APL twice. TWICE! Since I know how to care for my hair, growing it is simply a matter of when not if.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I belive it....I was one of them

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I agree. Also, I think that a lot of times peoples hair is damaged beyond repair. I know a lot of people on this board are hell bent on hanging onto damaged hair and trying to nurse it back to health but sometimes it's just too far gone. There is nothing that can be done but to cut it off. So that may be part of the reason why it takes so long for people to see length too. That damaged hair is still hanging on. It may look better because it's being treated and styled but the ends could still be breaking off more than they're growing from the roots so it looks like the hair is not growing. The new hair that's growing in is reaping all the benefits of the new hair care practices. By the time they start showing length, they have a whole new head of hair at that point.

My hair did that for the past 3 or 4 years and then when I bced a year ago and chopped it all off it seemed like my growth just took off. Hanging on to that damaged hair was hindering my progress. Even though I was taking care of it, my hair was still thin, stringy and lifeless looking from relaxer over processing. Of course when it was styled it looked nice but the hair was damaged beyond repair and needed to go. I never really saw growth until I chopped my hair and started over whether it was just a short haircut when I was relaxed or the bc I did last year.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yep...but not at first. I had a friend who had really short hair...but it wasn't by choice! It's was maybe 2 inches all around at the most. I went to her house and saw her baby pictures. It has always been that short.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

Yes because I was one of them.As soon as my hair(or a few strands) got close to SL or even just bottom of my neck it broke off:perplexed.
If I don't count my thin scraggedy overprocessed ends my hair actually never made it past chinlength:nono:

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I believe them too! Just not enough education about black hair care out there. We end up doing things that are detrimental to our hair without even knowing it. We base hair care off of urban legends that have been passed down and we can't get our mindset away from it!

Shoot people still believe that washing our hair often will make it fall out! That's crazy.

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

I was one of them. My mom did the best she could when I was a little girl, but it would never grow past neck length. When I finally found out what works for my hair and what doesn't it just started growing. I kept my hair in a pixie cut for years. I had my first hair cut when I was 12 years old. ( I burned all of my hair off in the front so I had to get it cut that short).

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

What's not to believe?

I don't know but it just seemed a little exaggerated to me. Like, how Oprah is always being so proud of her pony tail and said she was never able to have a pony tail like that when younger.

Butttt, I saw her pictures when she was in high school and her hair was around APL. Why would she lie about that-I don't know but maybe she was just exaggerating about not having a pony tail.:ohwell:

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

This question has me very um, surprised. If you dont believe that no one has ever had hair longer than their neck, I guess you wouldnt believe if I told you for the first decade of my life my hair never reached past my ears. Yes I said it, ears. :ohwell:I have the pictures to prove it as well. And I rememeber quite well, everyone teasing me about how short my hair was and all types of things my mom and grandmother tried to grow my hair. And I'm not exagerrating, I remember my friends mom said if she had hair my length she would wear a weave. I would definitely remember if I had hair longer than that, with all the teasing and shame I went through with my hair, I'd definitely remember. It wasn't until I was about 12 that I started wearing braids for 2 years and my hair grew to shoulder length. If I never wore those braids I'd probably be stuck at ear length for a while.

Tons of grease + a fine tooth comb+ and little DC= little retention

Re: Do you believe women when they say their hair has never been longer than neck len

It doesn't need to be said, yeah I believe it cause... been there done that.
My mother wasn't particularly knowledgeable about moisturization or protective styles.

She did the best she could and gave me "cute" hair styles. They required lots of heat, pink oil and blue bergamont which ukdcfed my hair up.

Grease is not a moisturizer Since a lot of ladies don't know that, a lot of women don't grow hair past their necks.
