This is just a fun thread where we give suggestions on hair trends. Try to be creative!
I’ll start:
Let’s normalize textured buns and ponytails! Let take a break from slick backs in 2025
There is so much controversy about the whole no oils/no butters method lately. Quite a few people who were following this method have experienced damage to their hair. I’m not sure if it’s from not using oils/butters, or if it’s from using shampoos that are too strong, or the lack of DCing, or lack of leave in conditioner, or detangling with a brush, but some combination of these elements is problematic for some hair types.Have we started normalizing using oils in our hair again?
Knowing about and doing our own hair. I feel like in some spheres we've swung back to the early 90s where it's seen as bad if you give yourselves trims, make your own kitchen mixes, style your own hair and feel like your hair is thriving... all because you're not a licensed cosmetologist and can't possibly know that your hair is "healthy".
I noticed that too. I subscribe to Afri.can HairGod on YT and he’s been shouting from the rooftops for the longest time- albeit shadily at timesThere is so much controversy about the whole no oils/no butters method lately. I never really followed AHG, but there are a number of former no oils/butters clients and stylists who are now speaking out as well.I noticed that too. I subscribe to Afri.can HairGod on YT and he’s been shouting from the rooftops for the longest time- albeit shadily at times- on the negative effects of over cleansing and removing oils and emollients from hair care regimens, especially when the no oils/butters etc was really being pushed by some wash n go stylists. It seems that someone was able to relay his message in a more digestible way. People are now listening, after realising that the condition of their hair was being compromised by such a routine.

I think it was hard for the original stylists, BGC, to deliver a nuanced message to the masses and now the combination of the rigidity of their method, and the fact that a lot of it spread via sound bites over social media has all come to a head. Add to that the fact that when you hair is curly it’s hard to see damage and you get a perfect storm.
I followed them for years, but I always hated their attitude so I’m enjoying the show now. Luckily I don’t think my hair suffered too much damage, but I’m being hyper vigilant now.
In a nutshell… I found NO OILS & NO BUTTERS great when using styling foam for 2 strand twists. I did 2 strands for almost 9 months.
And OILS & BUTTERS are needed for straight hair styles, wash n go’s,
You and your hair are so pretty!!!
I was thinking that hair type matters. I don't use foams, curling custards, or gels to twist my hair because I feel like they make my hair hard. My texture is cottony. But I realized that my sons' texture looks more like yours. For their hair I LCO a I go. On my hair I use either only water or water with a tiny amount of moisturizer, then moisturize and seal when I'm done. I only wear two strand twists.
It's fascinating how our hair behaves so different.
