Is this what your normal texture looks like? I want to try but I don't want to risk my curls.

Hi, @leona2025!

I hope the photos below help. I'll try to share MANY so that you can really compare/see.

I don't see any change in curl pattern at all. I do see frizziness and less definition, because I had my hair TRAINED via deep conditioning for definition. I feel I just need to retrain for definition.

However, if I were you, I would simply do a patch test: I would take a piece of hair from the back and "undercarriage" (bottom) of my hair and straighten it only. Then I would wash it the next morning and see how it looks.

Here are my before and after pics.

My curls before ever having used the ion steaming iron:

My curls after washing my hair after having used the ion steaming iron,
going from SOAKING WET HAIR to DRY HAIR:

Got mine in the mail yesterday, going to attempt to use this Saturday. This will be my first time straightening my hair in the 4 years I've been natural. I super nervous. I'm still trying to decide what leave in to use that won't weigh down my hair. And of course a heat protectant.

I always use (for the last 10 years)Aphogee leave in conditioner when I straighten. I like it because It's a liquid so it won't weigh your hair down plus it also serves as a heat protectant. I also use heat tamer spray for extra heat protectant because I don't want any heat damage.

What is heat tamer spray? TIA!
Yeah, the lowest temp is 375. I normally flat iron on 370-375. If you feel like it's going to damage your hair, return it. You know your hair and everything ain't for everybody.

ETA: There are thick bristles not really plates.
Okay seriously, this scares me since my hair is fine. I think I may pass on this one. Sorry ladies and thanks for sharing.

No worries, sis. You have to do whats best for you and your hair.

ThAnk you!!!!! I used it in the store.

I like it a lot. I would post a pic of my hair, but my hair is so tattered from back-to-back post partum shedding. So, I'm not about to embarassed myself like that. :spinning:

Ahh come on sis, lol. This a safe space to share...just kidding no pressure.

I used the steam brush and I have to admit, its awesome. It got my hair very straight. I've never blown my hair out so I can't compare but this is the most straight I would want to see my hair since I'm not into the bone straight look.

Anyway, I started on 375 but that was too hot for my hair so had to dial it back to 340 and I still think that was pushing it. Next time I'll start on 310.

Pic of my hair just after I finished. My hair was soft smooth and shiny, although the pics makes it look very frizzy, I promise it's not. I'm genuinely pleased. I wrapped it to sleep. Will post another pic when I take it down

Oh, wayment so 375 isn't the lowest temp? Your hair looks great! So much better than blowdrying, right? I'm happy you like the tool. Thanks for sharing.

Okay so I used the iron this past Saturday. I knew my Saturday was going to be super hectic, so I prepoo'd Friday night, shampoo'd and did a quick in shower DC Sat morning. Applied my leave in and twisted my hair then went for my pedicure. When I got back home, my hair was maybe 85-90% dry. I used the iron on 410 because I wanted my hair pretty straight. I LOVE the results. Next time I'll do it on fully dried hair, because I wound up doing an extra pass to get the damp parts fully dry. I'm not tripping over it, but I know for next time.

After I finished I added a little moisturizer and wrapped my hair while I got ready. When I upwrapped, hair was swangy, moist and healthy. :yep: Totally in love. It's different than when I flat iron, as I like my flat iron result to be super silky hair. This wasn't *silky* per se (not to me anyway) but still amazing. Last night I added a little leave in and a touch of styling mousse to 5 sections and added flexi rods overnight. Results are below:

Super duper pleased. My hair feels AMAZING. I haven't decided how often I'll use it and keep an eye out for any negative reactions on my hair, but in my book, winner winner chicken dinner lol :yep:

Reflection:

I really love the tool, performance, and results.

My hair and synthetic ingredients . . . :nono:.

For that reason, I'm not sure how often I can do this. I'm still working to reset my hair back to its previous state.

I thought my protein and DC treatment would suffice, but I'm having to go back in: I had to wash 3x with Kinky Curly shampoo (to remove all that product that I thought I'd removed but was probably still there, blocking my initial protein and DC treatments). That's crazy: That poo was in my donate pile because typically it's too stripping.

I did Chicoro's moisture-drenched prepoo. I'll do another protein treatment, a tea rinse, and a hot oil treatment containing amla.
