Those Asians BSS refuse to let a cent pass them by!

I go into the BBS today looking for this:

I did not see it so I asked the two Asian men if this was the only location in the store with this line. One man said, "yes this is the entire line". I said, "no, you are missing the mousse". The younger guy walks away but the old man is determined to know what he is missing. He pulls out some catalog and flips to the Shea Moisture section. He called me over and asked me to point it out. Low and behold its not in the catalog, so I pull up a picture of it on my phone. He writes down the name then makes a phone call. At this point I walk to the register with my other items. He starts speaking in his language about the product. Then comes to find me and tell me that it is new and they will have it in a month.

I was thinking dang, its okay not to have it, I can go elsewhere, but I guess he thought otherwise.

IN light of the recent posts, I hope we can make an effort to boycott and/or simply make purchases elsewhere. The Asian BSS's have purposely shut out black people from buying/communicating and participating in the hair industry (as sellers/distributors). There is a whole thread on the Black Owned Businesses where you can get products http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=696865. Besides, they have this whole Shea Moisture line at almost every Target. I know Target isn't black owned, but they also are not purposely & intentionally shutting out black businesses like the Asian BSS's are.

virtuenow, sorry hun, I don't come to this section very often and when I do i usually do a very specific search. I will definitely keep the boycott in mind.

ETA: actually I did look at that thread and I was not able to find any stores in Md or DC.

I think the reason so many here are trying to boycott Asian owned business is because of the blatant bigotry some people of Asian ethnicity show to blacks/African Americans. I don't think it's coming from being mean spirited. The whole idea is that in general, many Asian business owners in the hair care industry have taken a hold on the Black Hair Industry which is funded with Billions of dollars from Black People each year. Many people on here support this because for one, we shouldn't be giving our money away to people who aren't putting it back into our communities and who have an intense hatred for Blacks and even biracial/mixed race people. A lot of these people will do anything to keep us from taking back an industry that caters to us that is rightfully ours. I have read a lot of virtuenow's threads about this and I just get the feeling she is trying to encourage participation in the Black community and not doing it in an attempt to spite people of Asian Descent.

P.S. I hope I didn't offend you. I just thought maybe you didn't know why the boycott is so important to many people here.

TopShelf, I've also seen the Shea Moisture line in CVS, Sally Beauty and Amazon.com if you're looking for alternatives. It also gives options when your first or second choice isn't stocking one of the products.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of you knew about the whole boycott thing. It seems to be a pretty passionate topic that a lot of people are sensitive about. It sounded like you we're a little bit offended by what virtuenow said, so I was just explaining why many people are so serious about boycotting the businesses even though it may seem a little bit "spiteful/discriminatory" depending on your particular view point. I really hope I didn't offend you, though.

They undercut black beauty supply stores because they can get goods at better prices, causing these businesses to go under. They also treat black customers badly, treating them like they are thieves - following them around the store, being rude and dismissive.

Idts someone upthread kinda laid it out but based on what I've read the whole sellers(who are Asian) shut them out or jack the pricing. Leaving them to pay more from someone else or.more from the suppliers.
Oh also I'm not hip to the newest black hair care lines but the ones I know about are mostly natural whole ingredients. Which cost more than petroleum and canola oil that is in many bss products. Until they go main stream :/

For me, I made a promise to myself back in the 80's to not step foot in another Asian BSS. This crap has been going on for a loooong time and it has gotten worse. That is my personal choice. I will go to Sally's, Walmart, Target, the Health Food Store (Aubrey, etc.) or whomever. I will support black businesses, but the alternatives will also do as long as I stay my course. I am fortunate to have a White owned BS Warehouse here, Ensley Beauty Supply. They have everything and I mean everything at almost half the price that they charge at any Asian BSS. They have licences to sell all major and minor brands and they wholesale to Stylists. THey are also online.

If I did not have the other alternatives, I would do all of my shopping on line. But, like I said, its my personal choice. Just like it is another's personal choice to do as they choose. Its not a boycott to me, its a life choice. It's just that serious to me.

I was going to say something similar. Most BSS's are selling black products made mainly by white owned companies, though there are usually a couple of black owned products as well. If black women really wanted to boycott something, it would be the weave industry. When I walk into any Asian BSS, it's 75% hair 25% products. That's where the big money is and that is the market they completely control. I may have honestly missed that, but I don't hear anyone suggesting that black women should boycott wearing Asian hair . People want the product, but don't want to deal with the people it comes from sounds real bizarre. It would be like saying that Africans shouldn't be the controllers of the shea butter market, except more ridiculous because it literally comes from their people .

I did that with my Hatian BSS. If I need anything he doesnt have, He calls and hooks me up. I feel better giving him money than them. I can also try on as many wigs as I want without someone circling me and gawking.

Next time try Target or Walgreens. Both have the entire line.
