And which brand of either do you use? Also, if you don't mind me asking, why do you like Lye or No-Lye and what do you like about the particular brand of relaxed you use (or rather, what do you like about the results you receive from using it)?
 
Soft and Beautiful No Lye Relaxer. I've always used this brand as a little girl. It lays my hair down nice. I have no reason for choosing no-lye over lye but since I've used no-lye all my life, I don't plan on switching and taking a chance of damaging my progress.
 
I have always used a no-lye relaxer. I'm not recommending them, but that's what I've always used. I do think about going lye, but I don't want a scabby scalp, so I take the necessary precautions of chelating/clarifying since I use a no-lye relaxer. (ORS regular)
 
I use Ors extra strength it does well with my hair . Just started using it about a year ago or less..it's a keeper.
 
i used lye for the most part.not all lye worked the same for me. Vitale live and body relaxer (for straighter results) and vitale ideal (for curly texurized results) gave me the best results with maximum comfort.
 
Linange lye seems to work well for me this time around. The previous time I was relaxed ( many years ago) I used (dont remember the brand) no lye and it seemed to dry my hair out like straw.

I use ORS no lye. I tried my hand at lye relaxers after seeing so many people here with them, but m y scalp could not take it. I had a lot of burning and underprocessed hair.
 
Optimum No-Lye Antibreakage in Normal.... Gave me perfect results... Not texlaxed but left a lil texture for strength....
 
They are using Affirm Lye (Mild) on me at the Beauty School

I'm thinking about trying my Hand again at Self-Relaxing in 2013, and just bought a tub of MBB Lye for Fine/Color Treated.
 
I use Lye. Affirm Fiberguard is the brand in Mild strength.

I used No-Lye for a few years when they first put it on the market. My hair bone straight, no body, lifeless and limp, dry as straw and strangely enough very very light golden brown! People used to stop me and compliment my hair color and ask what color and brand dye I used and I loved the color. Sadly, I did not realize that the color loss was also a sign of how much the relaxer stripped and damaged my hair. Now my hair is not jet black but it isn't light golden brown either! I think that the relaxer bled out the color which was a sign of damage.

I like Affirm because it relaxes me straight but my hair still feel THICk and has body. It's not limp and lifeless. Although, I can't say it's thick just because of the Affirm brand relaxer since back then I didn't take care of my hair like I do now since I joined LHCF.
 
I use Affirm Mild until this summer when I switched to the normal strength. I still use mild in the front, normal in the back. No-lye relaxers did not agree with me, but again, I didn't know you require a chelating shampoo with no-lye relaxers. IDK if I had known that while I was using no lye maybe my hair would have looked better. I don't plan to change again, so it will be Affirm for me unless I decide to go natural.

I vote yes to sticking with Affirm! Lol! But seriously, I've been very happy with my decision to switch back to Lye and happy that I chose Affirm. When I decided to switch back a few years ago I researched and came up with Affirm and on the first relaxer application (I'm a self-relaxer) I was happy and haven't looked at another brand since.

I use Linange Shea Butter Lye Relaxer. I used CON and Soft and Beautiful for years... But I know now looking back that no-lye is somewhat drying to my hair. I prefer lye and appreciate the neutralizing conditioner that accompanies the Linange relaxer. With Linange my hair is relaxed just enough to maintain body and texture. I really like this relaxer.

I used silk elements lye when i self relaxed, but at the salon, i used mizzani lye. I decided to switch from no lye to no lye because of shamboosie's hair care book. I did notice a difference though.

Truthfully, my hair has done very well with Affirm Fiberguard (Mild) and Lawd knows I don't need no set-back switchin', so I better stick with what I know.:yep:

Especially since Imma try to Self-Relax on my own (again):ohwell:

Thanks to your post and @danysedai I think Imma stick with the Affirm.
 
No lye for me! My old stylist used Design Essentials Sensitive Scalp on me for a while, and I saw my hair health improve. I self-relax with it as well.

The stylist switched to Affirm lye without warning me beforehand. I let her relax me with it and my hair ended up looking like limp straw. That was the last time I went to a stylist and the last time I tried lye.

^^^^That's the bad part. She knew what relaxer was on my hair because she'd been my stylist for over 2 years at that point!

I was an LHCF member then, and I'd read positive reviews about Affirm, so I figured it would be fine. Nope! I began self-relaxing after that. No more surprises and no pressure to relax when THEY want you to relax. I'm freeeeeeeeee!! :lol:

I had been going to the Beauty School (asking for an advanced student) because I thought my technique was a bit off and I was underprocessed.

But after getting my last 3-4 relaxers at the School by a Sr. Student, I realized my skills weren't as bad as I thought.

I would only allow them to: T/U, Neutralize & Conditioner and I would come home and Re-neutralize & Condition. Then DC & finish up.

By my summation/observation, I was doing just as good as a job as they were, and decided to go back to self-relaxing in 2013.
 
I've never had a professional relaxer. My mom started relaxing my hair when I was 13 and when I was about 15 I started doing my own relaxers. I hate having to wait on other people to do my hair how I want it.
