Now I know why I didn't have the time or money when I was ready to fly up there. I wasn't meant to... I was just about to plan a trip for summer with my cousin. I will not be stopping by. Just my personal opinion
 
I'm just gonna come out and say it - I don't think any of these popular salons that claim to cater to curly hair are meant for Type 4 hair. Although I didn't go to Devachan, I went to Ouidad and my hair looked a hot mess when I left - along with the 3 other Type 4 girls that were there as well. Our hair looked better before we came in! Thank God we did not have to pay.
 
I always thought if I ever got my hair cut I'd rather get it done on my hair in it's natural type 4 state since I hardly ever straighten, Devachan is the only place I know of that does this and I like their products but after seeing this video :nono:

I'll remain a DIYer, at least when I screw it up it doesn't cost me a dime and I can slick it back into a puff :lol:
 
I don't think it's an ugly hairstyle but Im "lol: at how serious the hairdresser was. She really was acting like she was doing something special. :lol:
 
That was a mess LOL.

But sometimes you only go to certain salons for a cut or trim, not their styling techniques. Just gotta accept that fact in advance. However I had a Deva cut in DC by a stylist who's familiar with our hair. She gave me a banging twistout. It helped that she was a sista too I might add...

A lot of stylists at the more multicultural salons cannot style type 4 hair. That happened to me at Aveda salons. I just fluffed my hair after I left and kept it moving cause my trim and color was cute.

ETA: I'm okay with that b/c I'm rarely at the salon for a styling session per say. I'm there for the trim and color...

Umm wtf was that? That wasnt even a hair style. Worst advertisement for a salon ever LOL.

They did her wrong. I think its pretty clear that these "curl" salons are not for kinky/type 4 hair. I dont even bother with that. Their definition of curl is like 2b-3B/C, I'm not playing with them.

BTW this was the same reason that I never got into naturallycurly. I was just so sure that it was for white people (lol :look:). I mean, yes plenty WOC are on there but i justdidnt get the sense that it was for type 4 hair. No shade if you are on it, I just didnt get the impression that it was for me.

I have done so many hairstyles with my hair that I was seriously considering styling some of my 4a/b/c friends.

4a/b/c ladies...either REALLY learn your hair and what it needs or if you go to someone who wants to style your 4 type hair...make sure they are 4 type and have well maintained and styled hair and that they did by themselves.

4b's and beyond...we gone have to step our hair game up and really learn our hair. :look:

Juss sayin...cause I care. :)
 
Taryn I love your channel and your spirit but you are wrong for not calling Devachan out on their bull**** for this. Devachan should have paid Onjel for what they did to her hair. I've been wanting to try Devachan ever since I saw your beautiful haircut but after seeing this crap I already know what to expect for my hair because my hair is also 4 a/b. If Rosie "molded" my hair like that and then asked me to pay her I would have molded her face. The nerve! FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!

Her hair was nice and beautiful and her curls were nicely defined, but the hairstyle was horrible :nono:

I'd bet that she went right home cowashed her hair and redid it :yep:

Why couldn't they just do a nice wash n go to show how the cut shapes the hair?

That hairstyle is horrible and reason # 5,198,437 why I do my own hair!!

I wish I would have a stylist spin my chair around after spending hours in her expensive @$$ salon and show me a "style" like that on my head and ask "Do you like it?"

I think a lot of these new "natural hair" salons have no idea how to actually do natural hair. Yeah, DevaChan can cut curly hair (a friend loved her cut) but for the most part these new "natural hair" salons are not practicing healthy hair techniques.

For example, I went to Hair Rules (recommended by a natural friend) and the stylist (who was also natural) started to comb my hair (which was filled with shampoo) from the roots! I told her that I do not comb my hair that way as it causes tangles. She continued to comb my hair from the roots, and I stopped her again until she did it the way I wanted.

After my conditioner was rinsed out, I noticed a couple of hair balls and the ends of my hair, which she asked if I wanted her to cut out. Of course this was from the rough handling of my hair during the shampoo.

When we got to the blow out, she blew out my hair with a comb attachment from the roots! Again, I told her that my hair cannot be blown out like that. She blew it more gently and did start to blow dry from the bottom upward.

My hair came out nice but it was pretty much a sales pitch for the Hair Rules products (from shampoo through the flat iron) and seemingly a sales pitch to get me to come in for a trim/cut every three months. I never got a trim or cut at Hair Rules (too expensive) and I doubt that I will ever try another natural hair salon other than maybe a braiding place like the one that used me as a hair model last year.

I'd try out Khamit Kinks since they have been doing natural hair for many years (if the prices were lower or if it was free - hair modeling), but any of the new natural salons, no. I give up. I'm pretty much DIY.

OK, OK...and I'm not just saying this because I did my BC at Devachan (OK, maybe I am) but was it a great "style" no, but her hair looked a far sight healthier and more hydrated that when she came in. It was WAY worse when she sat down, so I'll just have to agree to disagree with folk. Her curls looked more defined to me, too. I saw this comment on YT:

They gave her runway hair. It would be fine at a fashion show catwalk but it's not for walking around.

and I think I *might* agree...welll....I dunno. I have a hard time getting good pics of my hair, so maybe the camera work/angle doesn't do it justice???
