I guess I just feel kinda guilty about it. I guess the good thing is I have been learning a lot here, and while my hair is long... doing the extra things might help it grow even longer sooner. This will be especially helpful since I plan to BC in June.

This!
Like honestly...how can u sleep on those hard up--do's without ****** it up? lol.
Not I! I'm too much of a wild sleeper for that o.O

I think they sleep straight up or on their elbow. My sister used to sleep on her cheek to maintain a hairstyle. I can't---I just can't do it lol.

I was have been feeling this way about myself recently. After being on this site and noticing so many rituals and etc it made me feel bad bc I never did them and still retained length my whole life. I wear my hair down daily, and never really did anything special to maintain the length. Before this site I never even knew about moisturizing and sealing(still trying to grasp it) and much more. My life consists of simply washing and conditioning my hair, and then flat ironing it with oil sheen weekly. It makes me feel guilty that my routine is so simple yet my hair has always been long...idk.

Girl...Stop

Or maybe they sleep on these hideous things....jk...but, I can only imagine some members going out to purchase one now to preserve their hairstyle.:grin:

A takamakura | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Geisha were trained to sleep with their necks on small supports on takamakura instead of pillows, so they could keep their hairstyle perfect. To reinforce this habit, their mentors would pour rice around the base of the support. If the geisha's head rolled off the support while she slept, rice would stick to the pomade in her hair. The geisha would thus have to repeat the tiresome process of having her hair elaborately styled. Without this happening, a geisha will have her hair styled every week or so.

Girl, that's like a skinny person going into a weight loss forum and feeling guilty for being able to eat whatever they want and still be skinny. Don't feel guilty about things you can't control or complain to a bunch of people doing all of those things about how you don't have to do them. It doesn't really seem like a real complaint - it comes off more as bragging (not saying that you are, but I know people that do that and they get the prompt eye roll... lol)

UPDATE!!!

Ok, ladies so I finally got a chance to stop her as I was headed to the water fountain.
I was bent over filling my cup with water and when I saw her I quickly caught her before she went out the door, I said "Your hair is soo pretty!"
She gave me a friendly smile and said "thanks you :)"
Then I proceeded to interrogate her about it lol.
I was like "So what do you do to it in order to maintain it?"
She says: "Oh well, I let my stylist do it....He ALWAYS flat-irons it for me to keep it straight. You see, this isn't the natural state of my hair (meaning her hair isn't pin-straight in it's natural state). It's usually very curly....like if I were to walk outside right now it would probably poof up! (It's raining today and I already noticed that it was alil "frizzier" than usual..so I knew exactly what she meant :yep: )And also, this isn't my natural color (remember when I told yall she had red on the tips? Well turns out she has like a burgundy overlay color as well...I noticed it when I got a good look at her hair). Also, my mom has long hair too, and we have a pretty strong indian blood-line in our family...so I guess that could be another reason why it's long as well. And I also wrap it at night...just to keep it straight....other than that. that's it *smile*.
So ladies, when I all boils down to it, yes it IS her real hair [she parted it and let me look right down to the scalp! rotflmao] and she is just one of those gurls that "has it like that" lol. No bunning needed, no moisturzing and sealing, no washing, co.washing every week.....she's jst BLESSED lol. Not to mention she has an excellent stylist. Just by talking to her I could tell she's one of those gurls that doesn't know the FIRST thing about doing their own hair (like me  ) so I have to give him (the stylist) some serious credit for doing such a bomb a$$ job on her tresses! She was so nice and friendly that I don't even envy her anymore...I just look to her as one of my hair Idols. Oh and please believe I will be getting my ends colored in the near future too! Like, I used to think about doing it back in the day...but she has helped me make up my mind to go ahead and make it happen once I reach my hair goal :yep:!

^^ Wow!
Have you thought about maybe going to her stylist? It always sucks to see someone who has bomb a** hair on the board who went to a stylist a million miles away, but to have someone local might be nice.
I know I'll never go to another stylist but so many people still go and have great results. Maybe you should check him out!

davisbr88: oh please believe i'm going to get around to having her pass me his info . She's about to become one of my close besties she jst doesn't know it yet

I went to school with a girl like this. I sat behind her for 6 months. Her hair was long, silky, and she wore it down daily. It looked so good that another friend and I nicknamed her "Barbie." I was like, her weave is on point every day!

Turns out that it was ALL her hair, MBL length. I finally asked her regimen. She relaxed every 3 months, and got weekly rollersets. She put her hair in 3 or 4 large pincurls nightly. She went to the Dominicans exclusively and got her relaxers at home in NYC. She was completely opposed to doing her own hair. On vacation (when she couldn't get to a stylist), she did braidouts. I saw her wear a bun maybe twice and she only wore them because the weather was horrendous.

lol, i'm glad it's real too. we need more black women with lush, long tresses to smash those stereotypes.

@Ms.MArtina... it kind of feels like your [secretly] bragging a little:rolleyes:
my hair has always been long too without me doing diddly squat to it.ive never been shorter than BSL ever in my life.however i dont feel bad/guilty about it...because that would be stupid......feeling bad about having long hair, thats kind of foolish in my opinion...[just saying]

Given that I feel like I am the shortest haired person on this WHOLE SITE, you all need be quiet.
All you apl and longer women with only 1 or 2 ssks and not a single split end on your whole heads...
And in the meanwhile I'm contemplating wigs and reeking of sulfur just to even out at stretched collarbone length. You all are *wrong*.
:nono:

^^ Girl bye. You do NOT have the shortest hair!!!! And even if you consider it short, you certainly have a LOT of it. :yep:

You are far from bald-headed! I wish I had your thick APL hair already! :cry2: My hair has never been thick and I hate that :ohwell:! I mean my hair only looks thick in its natural state which I am a bit upset that I relaxed instead of kept tex-laxing. I digress...I will get my hair there one day and the day I do...ya'll be prepared for me to post a video of me doing cartwheels!

I'm not at all "bragging." That is just how you chose to perceive things. I don't feel bad about having long hair. Let me clarify things for you. Before joining this site I never realized or thought about all of the rituals and things people do to achieve length. I never knew about all of the techniques that some people do religiously. I now feel some guilt because I see how hard of a process it is for some people, when I honestly never thought about it before. That is why I said I feel some guilt. I wasn't trying to brag at all, and I think you are taking things the wrong way completely. I don't regret having long hair, but learning more about other people's journey has opened my eyes to how hard it can be for some people...

Maybe she's a lurker :look: :)

bahamababe242 & @D.Lisha, Orrr! Maybe she's a "Member", Hmmmmm!!!:yep:

But to comfort your rant, I know several people who know nothing about Healthy Hair Practices, don't ever PS, barely wash, Neverrr DC, and Hair is down their backs, and these particular people, I know don't have weaves! Just like a previous poster said, its just like some people who can eat any and everything under the sun, don't even think about calories, never seen the inside of a gym, and stay fit as Billy Blanks!:ohwell:

Omg that is so me ..big mac double cheese no pickles errday! Everyone has an edge to at least one thing in their life I guess. Effectivement, c'est la vie!

I'm right there with you!!!! It happens.... there's always the skinny girl who eats fast food everyday, never works out, and yet she's still skinny. C'est la vie. My hair reacts to every abuse, so I can't follow another person's remedy if I know it won't work for me.
