Does Product Smell Affect Whether Or Not You Use/Buy?

I'm big on smells and if it smells nice its a keeper but it has to fit into my ingredient requirements whether its food, lotion, body cream, etc.

I just bought a bottle of AO GPBC and let me tell you the smell (to me) is so nice! I have a scarf on my head (air drying) and I can still smell it! Ya'll ever seen a cat on catnip? That's me! Don't judge me

Now the AO HSR smell.... erplexed ...but I got used to it...it left my hair so soft.
I also smelled the JC Revitalizing Leave In that I purchased and its quite fragrant as well and I like it too. I thought I was going to knock myself out but it was overpowered by the AO GPB

Now I have a few products where the smells are sickening (to me) BUT they aren't my everyday or leave in...luckily I'm able to add an EO to my castor oil and WGO and the longest they're left on my hair is overnight.

If I can't stand the smell, it has to be AMAZING for me to buy or repurchase, if I didn't get to smell it before I tried it.

thats funny b/c i love AOHSR smell, but to me AOGPB smells like mens cologne/aftershave!!! lol and you know AO products have the seal so you cant smell them in the store...which i usually do with any other condish...smell does matter to me to a certain extent...some products i use esp. for the smell (tigi moisture maniac...even though i like aussie moist better in terms of slip and moisture) ...a product that smells horrible i probably wont use (like VO5 free me freesia...i had to throw it out the smell was so annoying), but if a product smells delicious and the ingredients suck, i wont use it...AOGPB even though i hate the smell, i'll keep around because its one of the 2 protein condishes my hair can tolerate, i like the way it makes my hair feel, and the ingredients are a plus

My products defenitely have to smell good or at least smell decent! I love the scent of victoria secret so sexy condish and anything by herbal essences or v05. I feel the same way about skin products and food 2- thats why i cant eat chitlins lol. As far as hair products go the only product that ive smelt and cannot use again was the sulfur 8 grease- it is just to much for me lol!

I'm not using it if I can't stand the smell. I refuse to walk around with stinky hair. I remember when I was younger I used too much pink lotion in my hair (before the new scent came out) and I threw up. Maybe it was something I ate earlier maybe not...all I can say is that after that I have never used another stinky product in my hair no matter how good it is.

Yes. I'm very picky when it comes to fragrance. I won't use anything if the smell bothers me. I like flowers but I can't stand heavy flower scents whether natural eo or fragrance oils in products. Scent is a very subjective thing - I've seen people complain about the smell of raw shea butter, black castor oil, wild growth oil, etc., on different hair boards over the years - none of these bother me. OTOH I can't stand the smell of AO products so I never got into them. Also people use sulphur products and don't seem to mind but there's no way I would ever use them.

While I don't want to smell offensive or outright stink, the scents of products don't necessarily stop me from purchasing. I add EOs to my JBCO and recently learned how to use perfume oils to scent my sulfur mix so that it has a pleasant smell. I couldn't get with the dried egg shell scent.

Smell is important to me. I've stopped using products that work well b/c I didn't like the smell. For some, it wasn't even that it stunk per se, just wasn't the kind of smell I like. One leave-in that I tried had the strongest grape smell ever and I couldn't keep using it. I'm not a fan of fruity scents at all.

I have a love/hate relationship with Wild Growth Oil for years....just because of the smell. I love the consistency of the oil and how it penetrates my hair..but the smell is god awful. Ugh. I guess I could try and mask the smell by using peppermint e.o. but I just don't know if that will work. And frankly, I don't want to continue using a product that I have to keep doctoring up.

On the other hand...

A sweet smelling product is ideal...but something overwhelmingly sweet is a huge turn off. I have Karen's Body Beautiful Jojoba Hair Oil in Vanilla Latte. I so love Vanilla Latte but that scent in that hair oil knocks my socks off every time I attempt to wear it. It doesn't go away and it clashes with every other scent I may have on. Will I repurchase? No. In fact, KBB's strongly scented products (in my opinion) will keep me from repurchasing anything else in this line.

Unscented products are good and they have a place in my hair routine...they're just boring.

It depends. If I'm not going anywhere I'll use anything. But if I'm going to work or school and the smell will still be lingering, I won't do it. I don't want people scrunching up their noses at me lol.

Yeah I am good for opening a product to try and smell...but if it has a seal on it...I'll take a chance after much research. I really had to get used to AO HSR I think it caught me off guard. I'm not a floral person. Now that you mention it the AO GPB does smell a little like a mens cologne or masculine.

Oooh I know what you mean the smell of Pink Oil makes me gag, ugh I can't take it. I had to ask my S/O to stop using it in their hair.

See I've heard so much about the smell of sulfur...I'm scared to try it. AO products naturalness & effectiveness win me over more than anything. Did you find a line that you like better?

I like the smell of the Wild Growth Oil Lite for some reason...its spicy..
Oh I've never tried KBB before is the Vanilla more fragrant than Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar scent?

For the most part yes. I just put this on my regimen list. I have a few conditioners that I rotate that do the same thing but the scents are so wonderful I have to switch.

I will try out a product to see if it the scent will grow on my.

I recently ordered some samples from Bee mine and the scents on some make me want to hurl. Natures Gate Aloe vera conditioner made me naseaus as well. Oyin handmades grease smelled good initially but within 10 min I had a headache and did not use it after that.

When I first started using EVCO the scent made me want to slap somebody but I got used to it and now love it. AO HSR is still growing on me sometimes I like the scent and sometimes I dont

JBCO: no no the scent is awful. I found out I was allergic so that went in the crapper.

I have one conditioner that I love the scent so much I leave it near me and just take off the cap and sniff it, it is sooooo wonderful.

A friend gave me Silicon Mix Leave-In and I gave that pungent, overly perfumy-smellng stuff right back (though of course I appreciated her gesture). I bought Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment and it reminded me of an musty, damp, concrete basement - I blessed one of my co-workers with it since she loves Ojon products. If I can stand the smell, I can't keep it on my head - even if it meant from NL to BSL in a month (well...maybe in that case LOL).

I definitely prefer my products to have a nice scent to them. I don't mind if a DC smells a lil stank as long as it doesn't make me sick to use it. I have a weird sense of smell so i like different scents then others. I prefer sweet scents..vanilla, coconut, mango those are my 3 favorites. Jasmine's had this Egg Nog scent for Xmas and I love it!!

If it doesn't smell good or at least decent I won't use it. I use Palma Christi on my face and hair at night and I am used to it. I also use WGO during the day and I like the smell. For the first time I smelled MTG on Saturday and it smelled like bacon, so that will NOT work for me. Other than PC and WGO (which I make exceptions for) everything I use smells like juices and berries, LOL.

I love KBB hair nectar, but I have lavendar vanilla scent and wanted to punch myself in the nose so i could stop smelling it. Now the coco lime? I move my head around so the smell reactivates.

If every product that worked for my hair smelled like the Victoria Secret So Sexy conditioner lines, I'd be in hair heaven. So yes, smell matters a lot to me and that's why I'm moving away from natural products to store bought products that work just as well (and smell good).

There are only two ingredients whose smell I cannot stand - rosemary and chamomile; coupled with the atrocious aroma of AO White Camellia (that nastiness gave me a terrible migraine). Everything else my nose barely notices.

Definately not. I bought some products that smelled like horrible sulfur and I really didn't care, as long as it worked. I'd rather my hair smell like utter crap than feel like crap and be in a bad state of health. Whether you smell good or not, if you make my hair longer and healthier I'mma buy you. =)

I like juices and berries over floral! I keep hearing about MTG smelling like bacon...but does it work? Of course I'd wash it out every morning.

It really doesn't matter to me how it smells as long I like/love the end-results.

I've used 'several' things that didn't smell particularly good but worked/works wonderful. And stuff that smells Da' Bomb but sucked.

So, I guess I'm saying all that to say, I'm totally 'flexible' when it comes to scents & my products.

Yes, the smell of a product affects my decision to purchase. When I'm at a store, I open anything that I'm gonna put in my hair and smell it. I had an incident where my edges got really thin due to tight braids. People were raving about MTG and Boundless Tresses, so I tried them. I could not go longer than week with either of them. I hate the smell of sulfur and I hate the smell of pig, and therefore cannot use those products. I agree w/ whoever else says they don't like the smell of AO Honey Suckle Rose. The smell is sickening to me (and it's not that great of a conditioner). I don't even like the smell of products that are too fruity. I hear people say they love the V05 Strawberries and Cream and I wouldn't be able to handle my hair smelling like strawberries.

YES! I won't buy something if I hate the smell. Even if it works great, I can find something that smells good and works great! I don't buy stuff just because it smells good though.
