So is the smell a deal breaker for you?

I can deal with certain smells. I think the only product that I could not use because of the smell was Oyins honey hemp conditioner. Something about it made me really sick:nono:. Seeing that I can tolerate Sulu Max:perplexed. I am not sure. Maybe I got a bad batch that time.

Ohhhh yes. I have a picky nose that sometimes likes a little bit of everything but a certain scent in a certain product can just make me nauseous whether it smells bad or not. I used CON for years without incident but when I opened a bottle up recently I just gagged, had to put it back. Maybe overusing had made it smell terrible to me, who knows.

Ojon Restorative Treatment smells like a bowl of cigarettes and even if that junk could have waist length hair flowing down my back I wouldn't want to use it. That's one reason I'm wary about Bee Mine products, some of the scent descriptions just have me thinking about a cloud the smell of bad Lip Smackers (remind those from back int he day?) and I already feel like yakking..

A product has to smell good to ME, lol, or else I can't use it. Of course that varies widely. I don't mind/like the smell of Wild Growth Oil + Aubrey Organics White Camellia (smells pretty and clean).

I absolutely despise the smell of ORS Replenishing Conditioner but I still use it because it's good stuff .

ETA : All homemade mayonnaise/egg concoctions are horrible , but even though I don't use it any more I did it for my hair :ohwell:

I know another deal breaker for me would be how the the product smelled in my hair when I sweat while I'm out somewhere! Heaven help me! I get hot easily but thats not hard to do here in Houston.
I guess I wont be trying the growth aid MTG if everyone is saying it smells like bacon...I cant have the dog trying to eat my hair or trying to lick my face all the time.

Yes, smell is important to me. The main problem for me is that I might like a smell at first and then after a while it turns me off.

Like, I used to love the Silicon Mix smell and now it gives me a headache. I thought Shea Moisture smelled good, but my ex-BF said it smelled terrible. LMAO. ORS Olive Oil Moisturizer...I threw a full bottle of that in the trash.

When I wore a braidout with Stretch Silkening Creme, I got compliments on the smell, but it bothered me that the smell was strong enough for people to smell all day! Sigh...I could go on and on. The lack of smell of UBH Creme Moisturizer was kind of refreshing. I'm afraid to order JBCO because everyone says it smells. I absolutely HATE the smell of Lavendar, period so I can't even order the scented kind.

F

I recently ordered some samples from Bee mine and the scents on some make me want to hurl. Natures Gate Aloe vera conditioner made me naseaus as well. Oyin handmades grease smelled good initially but within 10 min I had a headache and did not use it after that.

When I first started using EVCO the scent made me want to slap somebody but I got used to it and now love it. AO HSR is still growing on me sometimes I like the scent and sometimes I dont

JBCO: no no the scent is awful. I found out I was allergic so that went in the crapper.

I have one conditioner that I love the scent so much I leave it near me and just take off the cap and sniff it, it is sooooo wonderful.

That's so funny! I initially loved the Strawberry Kiwi, so then I tried the Island Mango and I was really turned off by the smell. I even commented about it to the owner in the Bee Mine thread.

I bought Afroveda's Shea Amla once and the smell made me feel sick. That was the only time that I could say that a scent determined whether I liked a product or not. Usually I'm fine with scents of products.

Great smelling products make me fall in luv (hairveda, shescentit...those are my fave lines!) but Im not gonna ditch a product bcuz its funky. I dont understand how people get sooo overwhelmed by scents of products...fragrances are a luxury, most of my products pre-lhcf smelled toxic and were full of stuff that I couldnt pronounce lol so if something is funky but has great ingredients who cares!

I prefer for my products have a pleasant scent, however highly scented products affect my sinuses.

at the same time I do use some no so nice smelling stuff like Amla oil, lamaur bone marrow and I just ordered MTG. As long as the scent can be masked im ok with using it.

Heck yeah! Even if something smells good, if it is too strong I won't use it. I work in close quarters with other people and I think its rude for me to "stink up" the communal air with heavily scented products. Its a pity because my hair responds really well to sulfur based growth aids. I've tried so many! The only one I can tolerate for daily use is Miss Claudie's.

I don't think I can do it. I don't want to walk around smelling bad. When I first joined I learned about MTG. I went to the store and the strength startled me when I opened the bottle that I ended up spilling some of it. It smelled horrible! I never made that purchase and have never tried MTG.

Absolutely! I am a "sniffer". I have to smell the product before i buy it. Once i bought hot six oil and it was ok in the store. For some reason when i got home and used it, it was soooo overwhelming. I was sooo nauseated and lightheaded.

I have used mustard oil that could clear your sinuses and just mixed up a neem facial that would gag a snake but it will be washed off. Dabur amla (jasmine) oil smells like a funeral parlor and its full of mineral and canola oil ... it works for oil rinse after cassia treatment. I could not stand the smell for daily use.
If the product is useful and will clean hair/skin, the smell will not be a problem because will be temporary.

My products must smell good. So far I've lucked out. I can't get with a smelly product no matter how good it works. Of course everyone's sense of smell is different.

Yes, smell is important to me. I have an almost full bottle of AO White Camellia that is just sitting in my bathroom cabinet because I can't tolerate the scent.
I also waited over a year to finally purchase Vatika oil because people kept saying it smelled like bacon. I finally decided to buy some, and fortunately my bottle smells like coconut and lemon.
Oh, and KBB products have the best fragrances!! That's the primary reason I buy from this line as opposed to some of the others.

Yes! Product smell is definitely a major factor when I'm buying hair products. Especially if its something other than a shampoo and/or conditioner (since those wash out)

Absolutely YES!!

One of the first things I do is smell the product. When watching product reviews on youtube I want the person to describe the smell. I've come across products that were raved about, and I picked it up in the store, but never purchased because they smelled unpleasant. Moisturizers/leave-ins especially have to smell good lol. Conditioners I'm a little more accepting of an unpleasant smell since they're going to be rinsed out anyway -- but if a conditioner smells yummy that's a definite bonus

To a certain extent-yes. If the scent is wayy overpowering I will not purchase. Some products with heavier scents Ive learned to live with but just use sparingly-i.e. Oyin brown sugar pomade. I use that cause I like it enough to keep it. Also- OP I love AO GPB too! It reminds me of Avon's skin so soft.

Im not overly sensitive to smell for hair products. It doesnt bother me if something as no smell or an overpowering smell. I havent used anything like mtg so not sure about that. I never smell my products before purchasing and I probably couldnt tell you what any of my products smell like. :ohwell:

The only time I smell something is if I am checking to see if its bad.

Until I started watching yt videos and came to this board I didnt know it was a factor. :perplexed

Smell just isnt a factor in my product decisions.

I can take pretty much anything when it comes to fragrance, but the one product I threw away was the Shea Moisture Leave-In you can get at the BSS. I peaced those 2 bottles out. It smelled like that fragrance they put on Cabbage Patch Kids :nono: That smell was always cute to me as a child, but I don't want to smell like one.

If it smells good I'm all over it. I like for my hair to smell yummy. Although recently the smell of my Oyin Honey Hemp conditioner has been a turn off.

I am able to endure most fragrances, but there are three that I just could not tolerate under any circumstances: AO White Camellia, Oyin Hair Dew and Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade

The smell of the AO White Camellia gave me a huge headache and I am still wondering who at Oyin thought it would be a good idea to have the hair products smell like old fashioned Karo syrup.

All three of these were deal breakers and went straight into the trash.

I'm big on smells, but unless it's tar products, I prefer the smile, tar stinks but it's good for me. So I'll get tar, but I prefer everything else to smell good.

Somewhat. I can tolerate it as long as it doesn't stink, though I prefer fresh light smells.

I gave away my Silicon Mix Bambu because of the smell (even though the perfumey smell of the original SM doesn't bother me).

I'm still using Kerastase Nectar Thermique which to me smells exactly like SM Bambu but it is too expensive to give away lol, and although I can't stand the smell of Kerastase Elixir Ultime I still use it too.

For me smell only matters for products I leave in my hair hair like a leave in conditioner or a moisturizer, but for things like conditioner that I wash out smell is not really a factor.

I don't like scents! I've been wanting to try shea moisture products but the scent always stopped me

Dominican products are the worst. I love baba de caracol but the scent drives me nuts

I LOVE all natural stinky oils and herbs. Used fenugreek a while ago and was told that I smelled like curry :nono:

I hate the smell of ors carrot oil.. its a great product but I have no clue what made them think they should have it smell like stinky old carrots. I only use it after my hair's been washed a few days because it ruins the clean hair smell.

I don't really care about the smell as long as it's not too strong I don't want to be walking around smelling like s#!t. But then again i use my not-so-nice-smelling products the days i know I'll be indoors all day.
