So is the smell a deal breaker for you?

No - if it's a DC or a shampoo.

If it's a leave in or some kind of hair butter that I need to keep in - sorry but no can do.

yes chile it has to smell good. i mean you can't be walkin' around with people's noses openin' up everytime you pass by.

I have had conditioners leave ins and oils that smell horrible, but their smell didn't deter me from using them. I noticed after a while I would get used to the smell and it didn't bother me anymore, sometimes depending on the smell I would even end up liking it.

Yes!

I've had instances where some fragrances made, me feel nauseous, that's why the smell of things is important. Some things overtime I started to hate, like the old scent of banana brulee ugh, best dc ever but if it only came in that scent I wouldn't be able to use it.

Yes, smell can be a deal breaker. Only exception to this rule is Jamacian Black Castor Oil. I didn't care for it, but have learned when to use it and how to hide the smell. But that is about the only hair product that gets a special pass.

It at least has to smell decent. Oddly enough most of my staple products smell just OK to me ORS shampoo and replenishing condish, S-curl, hempseed oil. Most things that smell really good to me don't do crap for my hair :ohwell:

As long as it works and doesn't linger it doesn't matter to me. This comes from a person who uses that horrid smelling Aphogee two step. It smells just like Raid:nono:

I think i just told on myself:lol::look::sekret:

Smell is a part of it for me for sure. Its not 100%, but if a product smells like sh*t, I wont buy/use it even if it makes my hair grow 2" a month.

With that said, I am pretty liberal when it comes to scents, especially treatments and conditioners that are going to be rinsed out. I actually like the smell of henna and ayurvedic herbs, but I probably wouldn't use it if the smell took over even after rinsing it out.

If it's going to be rinsed out, not really. BUT for leave-ins, it's a definite yes. My bottle of bacon grease, I mean, Wild Growth Oil is still sitting underneath my cabinet. Who wants a head full of long funky hair? lol

It would have to smell extremely bad for me to care and I haven't run across anything like that yet. I typically don't notice the smell of anything. I care that it works. And it bugs me that when people give reviews that start with how it smells. I understand that smell matters to most but if I have a product that smells good but doesn't work, that sounds like perfume to me.

I will not use a stinky product!

products that have gotten the boot because of smell:
-s curl
-wheat germ oil

and I barely tolerate Aubrey organics earthy spa smell :nono: I like my hair to smell pretty

Yes and no. If a product works but the smell is a little off, ok. For example, my wild growth hair oil. I love that stuff, so I still use it, but I adapt. I use it after I was along with my leave in on damp hair. By the time my hair dries, you can hardly smell it.

If it is too perfumey, I can't deal and if the smell is really bad I wont use it. A lot of my products have light smells or smells that are borderline that can be hidden. I still have them cause they work really well.

Yes! I absolutely love how ORS Carrot Oil feels on my hair but I can't stand the smell. I used to feel so self conscious around people. I even had my bf at the time do smell checks on my hair and used to feel uncomfortable hugging him because my head was under his chin.

Needless to say the last time I used that product was circa 2005

If something smells horrible I will try to tweak it up with some essential oils or use it only on wash days. (If it was a shampoo, conditioner, or oil. It can not be a leave in conditioner.)

YES. a few years ago I ordered a MixedChicks product. As soon as I opened it , in the trash it went. I could not stand the smell.

I'm not interested in smell-goods that don't work, but I am lured by smells. Herbal, stinky smells can smell good to me. I made a really good hair lotion, unfortunately, I put in just a bit of Neem Oil, so I'm not fond of it, despite the fact that it works great for my hair. Neem oil is a lingering scent that I don't tolerate well.

Yes, I avoid stinky products that I have to leave in (ex shea butter) unless I have to use it. Luckily so far, the stinky products have I to use are limited. I can wash out Aubrey's GP. Castor oil stinks, but I need it to seal in moisture so I deal with it. I just hope the Shea Moisture over powers it.

I open and smell every new product to make a final decision on whether I buy it or not. Those that are sealed drive me crazy! But, I won't use it if I can't deal with the smell. The only exception has been Aphogee, the hard protein treatment. That smell makes me sick to my stomach but, it works. I haven't used it in over a year, but I would.

Yup, definitely! A product MUST smell good (or at a minimum, neutral ) or else I wont buy/use it. If a product smells great, but doesn't work for me, well that's a no go as well.

I broke down and got the Silk Dreams Haircare products and now I want to eat my hair. I also got a Pink Sugar hair perfume for my 3/4 wig. Non non nom

i think there's a limit...if its making me feel sick, or doesn't rinse out, then I just can't do it. of course, i'm in a place where the random 'ode d'garlic' or some other pungent smell hits you at any given moment so maybe my mindset will change.

Of course!!! If I see the scents available are not ones I like, I'll get the unscented version and use fragrance oils.

I've had a few products that had smells that made me physically nauseous. I had to bleach down and clean the crap out of the drawers I use for my stash. Never again!
