That doesn't mean they look better with longer hair:ohwell:. Beauty supplies are selling dreams. There are a dozen weaves out there and there are VERY FEW that rock it well:ohwell:. I have even seen long hair on some women that made them appearolder than they were.

I think one of the problems with so called social conditioning is that there are sooo many exceptions. I mean not everyone is meant to be light skinned or have grey eyes or even long hair. I hate to say it, but so many face shapes and I don't think everyone is mean to wear it.

I also think that long hair may not make an ugly woman more attractive, BUT if a person is average(which alot of women fall in this catagory to me:look:), it can bump them up.

Most women in general want longer hair. Why? Because longer hair is more feminine and in general flattering. While it IS possible to be insanely attractive with short hair, overall that is a rarity because it requires really really good bone structure and facial features. Not EVERYONE can pull off short hair. But basically any woman can pull off some sort of chin length or longer hairstyle. I don't understand what's the big deal if longer hair is prettier. It's a length attainable to anyone who tries for it, and most people on this forum would be lying if they said they don't care about their hair length at all. Lol, please.

I think basically in the end beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For myself a plain woman is a plain woman whether her hair is short or long. I've seen a lot of plain women with gorgeous hair who...actually looked kinda worse because the hair (shiny, glossy, long) did not match the face (plain). Some people think beautiful hair brings levels of attractiveness to a woman that she doesn't have. Others think that a woman who has a hairstyle that highlights her features is the one who comes out looking more beautiful which is what I think readyone and celinastarr are trying to say.

I like the fact people are saying that whatever hairstyle made them feel the most confident (and ergo most attractive) was what they realized worked for them and that for others that will be different.

Lol, like Celina said you can have the long hair swinging lovely with the beautiful highlights looking gorgeous and still get no attention (been there, done that) and then have short hair and catch a lot of people's eyes and suddenly flip fashion on it's side. (remember the summer of the bob? I know you do because practically every celebrity and chick in the mall had one). In the end if you try to predict what other people will like you'll probably end up dissapointed so it's best everybody just does them whether it's fairytale, shoulder length, a bob or ear-cut. If you feel good, you look good.

One thing i dont like is when you hear (certain women) say, "everybody tells me im prettier with short hair." As if they automatically think they are beautiful because they dont "have to have long hair" Its funny because most of the time i hear it the girl really isnt that attractive.

It depends on the woman's face shape and facial features but for the most part most women look better with long hair.

I feel that long hair is considered by many cultures to be a very feminine feature. I think that hair is a part of a woman's attractiveness. Having the wrong hair length/cut can enhance flaws and the right hair length/cut can hide the flaws.

Like women with round faces (like mine) I find tend to look better with hair that is either really short like a pixie that adds height to the top to make the face look longer. Or they have to have long hair where the shortest piece starts under the chin. So I find with that face there aren't many options in between those two extremes.

i see many unattractive females with long hair and many beauties with short hair or bald heads. the unattractive women are unattractive with long hair,it doesn't do anything for them to me. i also think how hair is cut/layered, facial features, and the shape of one's head all play a part too. Halle is gorg and short hair enhances her beauty!

OP, this is very interesting coming from you. I think because many people really think they would look very beautiful if they grew there hair out. I for one also believes this:look:, especially the older I get. There are also many long haired women that speak of the accolades of having long hair and that everyone will be chasing them til dawn. So this, coming from you is a bit of an eye-opener. And it goes to show maybe the grass isn't always greener on the other side:ohwell:. You have beautiful hair, though:yep:!

I'm in no way trying to discourage anyone or dismiss anyone elses experiences. Perhaps these women are recieving more admirers because of their hair. :yep: I can only speak from my experience. I enjoy reading everyone's views because due to different life experiences and personailty types our views and realities are different. :yep:

Growing up I was called ugly alot despite having "pretty hair". Highlights, makeup, nice clothes, etc. didn't matter; I just wasn't cute (and that's okay because everyone can't be cute). So this does make me think about beauty and what makes someone attractive and I think it's more than just hair. That's why when someone states that they want to grow long hair to be more attractive/get more "beauty points", I just didn't understand and thought they were joking, lol. But my views on this are shaped by my experiences and is just my reality.

Personally I don't think hair matters at all when it comes to beauty. Like an attractive person may not have "pretty" hair but they are still attractive. Then you have someone like myself that may have "pretty" hair but is very plain.

Hair functions the same way make-up does, imo. If someone is butt ugly no amount of hair (or make-up) will do much too change that fact. And beautiful people look beautiful regardless of how long or short their hair is. I think hair length has the biggest impact on average looking people. Long healthy hair can enhance the looks of an average looking person.

I also think that thinner hair looks best short. There is nothing attractive about having 10 scraggly strands of waist length hair

Personally, I have and do look at people who have long hair differently. No, I don't think their better or nicer or any of those priceless qualities. It literally is like a crown. I look differently at them because it's what I want. Yes, I do feel I would look prettier with long hair but maybe it is deeper than that. Maybe I am letting my own insecurities show.

A few years ago I had a boyfriend who told me I needed long hair and that my hair was too short for him. He also said a lot of things that were mean and selfish. Since forever girls with long hair always got attention. Even girls who were not attractive but had a nice body got more attention than the girl who was just pretty with a average body. The one with a bottle shape could have look like Flava Flav but because of her attributes she was popular. There was a girl in high school who looked like that and she had hair growing on her stomach. I was a little perturbed. Hair is like one of those attributes that garner attention.

In fairytales princesses had beautiful hair. I guess you don't unlearn those things easily. I'm constantly in the mirror reminding myself that I don't need long hair or the supermodel body. I tell myself to be nice to other people, to be happy where I am, and to be confident. That would be really rare nowadays when everyone is so superficial.

I don't think it necessarily does.
There are many women who actually look way better with shorter hair, but that's normally because long hair detracts from their more striking features and/or bone structure. Good examples are Rihanna, Halle Berry, Demi Moore, and Nia Long. They all look good with long hair, but short hair really makes them beautiful.

On the other side of the coin, there are women who just aren't facially beautiful, regardless of what their hair looks like. Even if it's flowing down to the floor...they just aren't cute. And in some ways, I think this can be worse, because you see a lady from behind...all this thick beautiful hair, and then she turns around and it's like...bam. Big disappointment.

And then there are those women in the middle...they're plain, but long hair gives them a boost and makes them look better.

I've seen all these women in the real world and on LHCF. I myself am the type where I'm just not pretty...long hair or not. Long straight hair looks better with my round face, but even with that...it's like...:nono:. :lachen:
But I feel that everyone should wear their hair how they want, even if it doesn't really make them look the prettiest to other people. As long as they feel happy and confident with their hair. :yep:

If only I were brave enough to admit that first. I feel that I look pretty with or without long hair but I feel that long hair would make me gorgeous. Idk that somehow it would transform me and make me stand out. Yes that probably makes me insecure, possibly even shallow but thats how I feel.

I think long hair also lets you "hide" behind your hair if that makes any sense. I probably got just as much if not more attention with my twa as my MBL locs. But after I had my baby and I didn't feel as good about my body I wanted my long hair back so that it could take attention away from what I didn't like and hide my back rolls. LoL. I like myself with short hair but I feel like I can only rock it when I feel good about myself overall which is why I can't see myself going really short again until I'm at my ideal weight. So in some ways I think the fact that the hair can draw attention away from things you feel less confident about can make some women feel like they look better with it.
Like I commented earlier, I think that the most flattering length really depends on the person. I don't think it is always the really gorgeous women that can wear short hair either. Sometimes I see plain/average women that get a hot haircut that gives them that something extra to make them look more attractive. I think if we are talking about getting attention, I think that long hair does get more initially, but I don't think getting attention always equals looking better.

I checked other.

I don't know if I would use the term better. I think I would say that women look more feminine with long hair.

I'm sure I posted in this thread in the past...but when I saw it again, I rethought about it. IMO, I don't think it's so much that long hair suits women better than short, but that it looks "better" because long hair is a sign of healthy hair. When we see things that indicate health, we automatically gravitate towards them.

I generally look better with long hair, short hair makes me look a little too much like a boy LOL. But I try to wear it both ways...

Beauty comes in many ways, all we can do is try to look our best.

One of the first people to come to mind is Rhianna. Hairstyles depend on the facial structure of the person IMO. Not everyone looks good with long hair and vice versa.

This is interesting.... Here is a lady who is considered a "Cute Longhaired TV Host". Her hair is Classic Length. But later in the video she cuts her hair to just below ear length... My thought was she looked cute with the longer hair and she looked older with short hair and not so cute...But she is still attractive...

What do you think?

For me it really does depends on the shape of your face. Rhianna looks fab to me with all of those hairstyles. A couple of blogs will have the relaxer pics next to the all natural pics, and some it's like umm wow you need to grow your hair out, and then others just need to keep it short!

Some women look like a witch with long hair and some don't...depends on the person.

Short hair makes my nose stand out and its kinda pointy  but its pierced and its mine...

My mother (my twin) perfers shoulder length hair because she thinks her small face gets "lost" in too much hair

it really depends ..not only by the face structure but also the body type ,if you re short and robust long hair will make you appear heavier and shorter ,a mid lenght would work better to make the figure leaner .Tall women with a long neck and oval faces look good with both short and long styles .Women with long necks and high cheeckbones whether petite or tall look better with shorter style .Round faces and slented eyes look better with big medium hair that frame the face.

I think long hair can enhance, and it can also distract. Depends upon the person.

I don't believe that long hair equals beautiful/pretty, etc. I think some women believe that if they have long hair, they are automatically attractive. Definitely not true.

I think it depends on the individual.

I think some people look way better with long hair.

And some look way better with short hair.

What I do feel long hair does is make women look more feminine, but that doesn't mean it makes them look better.

Ex: Halle Berry - to me looks more beautiful with short hair. But more womanly/feminine with long hair.

Same goes for Nia Long.

nope. nope. and nope.

Some women THINK they look better with long hair. I know I hide behind my hair. When I was in the best shape and had my "A" game, I had the cutest short cut ever. I don't think I could rock it with my chubby self. Now when I get finished bringing my sexy back, I might do a real cute short ceasar.

I think it depends on the individual. For instance, I have a long face so long hair doesn't really compliment me. It took me a while to accept this. Around APL is the perfect (and longest) length my hair should be. You have to really factor in face shape, cut, and style.

I have had, at the least SL and at the most (as a child) HL hair...One time, when I had to have microbraids cut out of my hair, it was around NL (well, maybe a little longer)...I don't think that I hide behind my hair, I honestly think that I look better with long hair...but I don't equate hair with beauty. There are plenty of people with long hair (whether it be weaves or natural) who aren't pretty...period. Funny thing is as a natural who does not straighten often (right now), my hair is pretty short (see siggy), but in reality, when I straighten, it's a decent length (BSB)...I think that I'm equally as cute both ways, lol!

This is me. I think the longest I could go would be APL and with that I'd have to have face framing layers/feathers and body.

EXACTLY! That's why I would sometimes let my hair grow out of the pixie cut to SL and cut it right back short again after getting bored. I did this probably 4 times in my life. I remember growing it back and then I'd see Malinda Williams or Nia with a fresh cut and get mine cut short again the next day. There is NOTHING like that feeling. I hope I feel that confidence again when I get past this length and I can fling my hair around and smack people in the face with it. That'll get their attention. Just kidding.

I wear weaves occasionally for a PS or just for a change but the paranoia of being found out if a track shows when the wind blows overtakes the confidence so I don't feel prettier in a weave. Of course that insecurity is picked up by men. However, looking in the mirror at home I feel prettier with the weave........ until I walk out the door.:look:

I have the cut Malinda Williams had in First Sunday..that is the best hairstyle for me...my SO likes it..

Whoever said that hair, makeup and clothing has to be on point is right..even for short hair..

I think long hair makes a woman look "softer" which plays into the image of femininity that most people expect a female to present. Which in turn makes her more "beautiful". However, as is clearly shown by the plethora of models and actresses out there with buzz cuts, you DO NOT need to have long hair to be feminine or beautiful.
