Do you believe long hair makes a woman look better? Do you believe that long hair makes a person that would be otherwise considered unattractive look okay or even pretty to others? Like it creates an illusion of beauty in a not so attractive person?

I'm just wondering...

IMO, it depends on the face and how one carries themselves. Some women really benefit from having longer hair, while others look fierce with a short cut. I don't think hair is the end all, be all. It also depends on how the hair is worn. Having long hair, or short hair for that matter, can be a detriment if one doesn't know how to wear it to flatter them.

I believe that well kept hair can enhance attractiveness no matter it's length. Although I have to say that everyone should make sure that their style flatters them as an individual.

I think long hair gives some women - who would otherwise be just okay or unattractive - a bit of an edge. It makes an already beautiful woman into a gorgeous one. However, long hair isn't flattering on all women. Some women I truly believe look better/sexier/more feminine with shorter hair.

It depends on the person. Some women look better with long hair, and some look better with short hair.

As for making you beautiful, long hair is not the end all be all as Blessed626 mentioned. Super long hair can make an 'ugly' person look even more haggard, IMO. Long hair can serve as a compliment to the confidence and beauty, but it certainly doesn't replace them.

Depends on their face, like Halle Berry looks more stunning with shorter hair.

Interesting. I think a lot of people feel this way.

I agree. I somtimes get the impression that some people (I'm not referring to anyone in particular on this board but people in general) think that long hair equals physically beautiful person but this hasn't been my experience at all.

I think long hair is attractive on women. When i see a okay looking girl with long hair i dont all of a sudden start to think she is more beautiful. She is still that same OKAY girl in my eyes.

I feel long hair can enhance a persons looks. I've seen some women cut off there long hair and it took away some of their appeal. Then again I've seen a woman get a short cut and it took years off of her. The cut gave her more of a sex appeal . I guess it just depends, lol...

As mentioned before, I think it's about the individual and ultimately the confidence they carry with whatever length. If your hair is long, you need to ROCK it long... If it's short, you need to ROCK it short.

If your hair looks a mess in the long or short hair department, you won't get points in the pretty category.

I wouldn't say that long hair gives the illusion of beauty but I will definitely say I've seen people with long hair that I don't think would be attractive with short hair....and on a rare occasion I've seen people with long hair that I think would have been better suited with a short hair cut. so as you can see I voted for : depends on the individual.

The connection between in feminine beauty and long hair (as I see it anyway) is that it gives its wearer a slightly more exotic look than one who has shorter hair. Not always, but in some cases.

Like some others have mentioned in this thread and others, long hair can give some women an edge and I think it can sometimes gain a woman attention she normally would not have received. But I don't think long hair in and of itself makes or breaks a woman's beauty. Many women, (and I am coming to the begrudging conclusion that I may be among them) actually look better with short hair. :yep:

Too me it's not the hair but the actual bone structure/facial features that makes one beautiful. I don't even use hair as a factor when determining one's attractiveness.

Thanks for the responses. I love reading other's views on this.

I believe that in a society/culture where long hair is deemed as "feminine" and a woman's worth is based in how feminine she appears, then yes, long hair will make a woman look more "womanly" and thus better in regards to the norm. In the same way that dresses, heels, and lipstick make a woman look "better." In reality, none of that really matters, its just a cultural norm. Beauty and femininity biologically/sexually is different. These same women can also look good with short hair too if they were in another culture where short hair was the norm and valued.

On the flipside, a woman with a short spunky cut that goes against the norm (like Halle Berry or when women first began to wear short short cuts in the past) is also seen as beautiful because she is seen as assertive, bold, fun.

IMO, not everyone looks good with long hair, but most women seem to look good with big, thick hair, long or short. If anything, long hair may distract from an ugly face (like large breasts can) but it doesn't make someone look beautiful.

That all being said, I'm a product of my culture and I unashamedly want long hair. But I think I looked cute with a TWA as well. However, I've never had long hair.

I think for black women, yes. A lot of black women have a deep desire for long hair. So when they see a sister with MBL or longer hair there's a fascination. It's kind of like how sisters with light skin and green/hazel eyes are sometimes seen as automatically more attractive because of those characteristics rather than their actual attractiveness. I think it depends on the person's face. I think i look better with long hair b/c of my long face but others (i.e. Halle Berry, Rhianna) look better with short hair.

I agree. I may think "her hair is beautiful" or "her eyes are gorgeous" but "she is beautiful" is different altogether. That includes the entire package (bone structure, eyes, skin, hair, teeth, demeanor, etc.).

Usually they do. But that's because the average woman is just that. Average. You usually have to be a 10 to wear your hair super short, and everyone goes on and on about how it brings out the face. What they don't mention is that that face was (probably) commercially beautiful to begin with.

I think particularly because a lot of black women don't have long hair, its more coveted in our circle. But it doesn't seem to be so much a big deal among other groups because its a dime a dozen (and white women with hip length hair don't seem to get any extra men going after them). Ironically, full, thick lips and a plump, round arse are coveted by a lot of white Americans for precisely the same reason, although those things don't make a woman look better either.

When i wore weaves, many people (mostly black and mexican guys) did not even check to see what i looked like. They would fall all over themselves whenever they saw hair that wasn't nappy or short. That has always stuck with me when i decided to go on my natural journey.

I did observe many comments from the kids on the college campus, when a woman wore her hair short: "She looks like a boy from the back".. was the usual..

Women who wear their hair short, and especially natural, have something about them that says: "That's right, take a real good look, there's a beautiful face, there, check it out." That's what it is, short hair MAKES you appreciate a woman's face.

Long hair, makes you look at the hair - first, then the face. for some women, it's kind of like a gimmick to get men. You know, like how some guys use their dogs, puppies parrots, or cockatoos to get young ladies' attention? (THAT'S very popular up here in the bay area, btw.)

When i stopped wearing those weaves, it took a long time to get that "short haired, natural" confidence.. but i'm finally getting it.

Some women with slim faces look really nice with short hair esp those with real little heads too much hair gives them a crack head appearance..but for fatties like me long hair can be a awesome it thins the face and for me anyway makes me look as close to feminine as earthly possible.

No. I think generally if a woman knows how to take care of herself and look beautiful she will look beautiful regardless. Kim Kardashian for example has done everything from long black waves to a short brown bob to blonde with highlights. Regardless she always looks good because she updates her makeup and wears gorgeous clothes.

I've seen plenty of plain women who had short hair and gorgeous long sparkling wigs...they looked like plain women wearing gorgeous wigs. The wigs didn't transform them. it just sat on top of their heads looking swanging while they still looked ordinary. In my opinion that's the worst thing a woman can do, lol. Like have you ever seen a woman with a gorgeous weave who just didn't look an ounce better because it wasn't HER?

Which is why I think Halle transformed the opinion on short hair. She had long hair and yes she was still lovely but she had the guts to ax it and suddenly all of her attractive details were highlighted (eyes, lips, jawline and cheekbones) so no I don't long hair would make a plain woman attractive.

I think it depends on the person. Personally, I look great with pixie short hair or long hair. It's the in-between lengths that don't really work for me.

It really depends on the woman. I look best with long hair, while Halle Berry looks best with short hair. But, then again, long or short hair can't fix *****. Sorry.

IMO hair nor helps nor hinders a persons sclae of attractive-ness.
If there ugly, your just ugly. & no amont of hair on your head will
fix the problem .... and by problem I mean the persons face ...

lol lol .... jk,jk,jk
