Here are some horror stories from my bellydance forum/there are mostly caucasians on there. I'm gonna post some posts here

Here is the OP, I feel so bad for her...

this was interesting, an explanation of why SHS cut too much...I'm sure something similar has been posted but still.

There's a huge difference b/w 5 & 12 inches. That stylist probably did that on purpose. I guess shs stylists is not race specific.

Something tells me this was intentional I am convinced now that stylists have just stopped relating to women on a hair front and I am sure they allow their feelings to come into play.... not necessarily on a hair front but prob in the sense that they think well what does she need all that hair for anyway...

I mean 12 inches is no trim... :nono: Some one would have been :hardslap:

After watching Tabatha's show I'm not surprised some stylists do this. She watched a customer ask for an inch trim and the stylist trimmed too much. When Tabatha asked the stylist how much she thought an inch was she held up her fingers about 3 inches apart. So whoever comes in there asking her for an inch trim is getting a 3 inch trim regardless. I'm sure many more do this or a variation of this

Terrible. That's why its so good to be a DIYer. I am telling you, people need to take "salon kits" with them when they go get their hair styled at the shops.

1. Hand mirror
2. Wide tooth comb
3. Tape measurer/ruler
4. No distractions (kids, cellphone, tv, magazines, etc). Pay Attention!

If you have these things, we wouldn't have these lil shop of horrors.

Sad story!

ya exactly; that's exactly why I posted this
being stuck at bsl ain't race specific either

but someone else brought up a good point
one girl that has hip length hair said that she knows her hair would look much better with 10 inches whacked off but she prizes her length more than anything else because of the dance and people outside of the belly dance community might not get why....

Just wanted to add #5 to your list
5. Cut your own damn hair

Seems like its the only way to prevent beat downs

Wow! That is crazy!!! SHS are out of effn controll!

As long as I am able bodied I will cut my own hair

Pay?! Certainly, she wasn't expecting to be compensated after that mess. She should settle for not getting a swift kick in her arse! :yep:

I think the baby hairdresser made a good point about how quickly a trim can get out of control. Trying to even up the entire head with what's been cut at the nape is a recipe for disaster!

The more I hear about these SHS, the more frightened I am about getting my trim next month. I haven't had a trim since August 2009 and I know it's time for one. I'm thinking of attempting it myself. If it's jacked up, I have no one to blame but myself. And I'm COOL with that. I'd rather not catch a case behind my hair!!!

me and you are here ><.

ITA with all the posters! I have been rolling with the S&D method and doing minimal trims as my length allows, but there is no way in hayyll I'm letting some SHS up in my dome again, ever! So far, that's been working out for me, and I figure, if it ain't broke...

this is terrible but not surpising. i've had 2 horrible cuts my whole life and i have officially learned my lesson after the 6 inch trim in oct lol

i think it is indeed best for all of us to be DIY cutters

I'm not! lol

Ain't that some ish....

I'm about to roll up on an Indian forum and ask if that ever happens to them :lachen:
just kidding

actually... i think this would be a good idea. i like to see all the similarities between all the different ethnic groups when it comes to hair. reminds us we're not alone in this journey you know. plus, i'm curious  lol

ya i know what you mean; When I see the ladies on the bellydance forum talk about hair and oiling their hair and not washing often and most of them are members of LHC too and they even reference the ladies here sometimes, it makes me feel less crazy lol
