My contribution: I thought being a member here for years and becoming a licensed cosmetologist would protect me from SHS (and it did up to a certain point), but I fell prey to the “shape” game for curly hair. And it’s actually harder, IME, to find a stylist who can listen to a client’s wishes and competently cut curly hair. I lost 8-10” in 20 minutes despite knowing better. Mandatory positive: such a disaster cut forced me to learn how to cut my own hair curly, and that was more than worth the $200 year long headache.
