No ladies I am not talking about Iyanla Vanzant's book, I'm talking about me. So, I told you That I was 7 months post relaxer I finally relaxed with Mizani. Well that 7 months that I tried growing my hair was in vain. I HAD TO CUT MOST OF IT IT OFF!!!!. Although it grew, I still had alot of dead ends that had to be cut. My hair was about 4-5 inches from reaching my shoulders now it isn't even touching my neck. I can't even rollerset it I have to wet wrap it that's how short it is. My hair hasn't been THIS SHORT since I voluntarily cut it off about 3 years ago. On the bright side, I can really see just how much my Surge, wildgrow concoction, and conditioner washes help my hair to grow. Sorry , but I had to vent only my haircare sisters would understand.

quitestorm, sorry that you had to cut all your progress off.

what do you think caused your ends to be in that condition? i think that's the most important thing. and were you transitioning to natural? i was just wondering why you waited 7 months to relax...

Were you keeping your ends moisturized during your stretching out relaxer period? Did you experience any excessive breakage during that period? I'm just trying to understand how you could only notice the dead ends after you relaxed.

I wasn't intentionally transitioning, it's just that I got so caught up when I found this board that I kept on waiting and waiting and waiting trying new things that I found out about on the board and couldn't wait anymore so I decided to perm. When I originally found the board I was already about 2 months post relaxer. I did notice alot of breakage, but thought it was b/c I combed it everyday(surging) I expected to cut some hair off but not that much.-

I'm sorry you had to cut so much hair off, Quitestorm.

When you say that you had dead ends, do you mean that they were thin? The reason I ask is that a lot of relaxed ladies say that there is a big difference between the textures of their relaxed hair and new growth, and that combing their hair when they have a few weeks worth of new growth makes it break. I'm wondering if that could have happened to you because you waited seven months for your retouch. If your hair was breaking, that might make the ends look thin. If you think that is the case, please don't wait that long again to touchup if you choose to keep your hair relaxed.

I hope you regain the inches you've lost quickly.

okay, now that you've cut your hair, how do you plan to wear it on a daily basis? and do you think the protein in the Surge could be a problem? i really think it's important to prevent the same thing from happening so you don't end up cutting again down the road...

Oh, I definitely won't wait that long again to touch-up. Now that I have cut my hair I can only wear it in a wrap. Imagine if you cut your hair right to where your kitchen ends.

I'm really sorry this happened to you. I'm six months post relaxer and plan on relaxing next Monday. I've decided to wait that long primarily because I think my hair benefits from not being relaxed too frequently. I never comb my hair while it's dry so as to prevent any unnecessary breakage, and do my best in taking care of it during this stage. Perhaps you should sit down and retrace what could've possibly gone wrong. Regardless, hair always grows back and it won't be long before you're back to where you were originally!

Quietstorm,
I'm sorry about your situation. I just went through something similar. I honestly believe that Surge and stretching out relaxers DO NOT mix. Especially, if you have thin hair as I do. Perhaps we can be hair buddies.

I'll PM you.

quietstorm, i completely identify with your hair plight. When i first came to the boards i wanted to try everything out! my hair suffered badly as a result. But now i KNOW exactly what works for my hair and what doesn't, I know that 8-10 weks in b/w relaxers is ideal for ME.. I have never been able to strecth relaxers past 12 weeks and i will not attempt to try because i simply cant do what everyone else does, Period.

Your hair will gow back , dont worry... just make sure you dont repeat the same steps. And please stick to what works for you.
