:bighug: I'm so sorry this happened to you Bella ATL. Your hair is still gorgeous and it will grow back before you know it. You've done it once so you KNOW you can do it again.

How in the hell did she confuse 1/4" and 4"? She did that out of jealousy  She sucks!

it doesn't look too bad, I would just wear it in curly styles, bumped under, pin culrs until it grows back.
she didn't know what the heck she was doing, just chopped the hair up goodness sorry this happened to you.

Do you have any sites or YT videos to recommend

OP: I'm really sorry to read this. I was doing a search on flat irons and came across your welcome thread a couple months ago. I thought your hair looked nice and healthy (although you were flat ironing everyday). You're not still doing that are you tisk tisk.

Anyway now I see this happened. The stylist didn't even give you decent style. She just chopped away :wallbash: But like others have said in a few months it will be back. Take heart.

Here is one YouTube that I have used

Wow! I gasped when I saw the comparison pictures :nono:. I am so very sorry she did this to you. I am so tired of hearing about stylist taking off too much hair.

I have not been to a stylist in a long time because the ones that I went to would not listen to me. I would say I want my hair like this and they did what they wanted to do. I have been accused of being too conservative by a few stylist. I don't see what is wrong with having a plain hairstyle if I want it plain. I mean it is my hair. I don't wanna live on the edge. If I wanted to live on the edge I would pack my things and live on a bridge :ohwell:.

There are some good AA stylist out there though we just have to be beyond careful who we choose no matter what color they are.

OMG!!! I cannot believe that she cut your hair that much, and it's not even even!!! I would have been ready to punch her.

You took it so well. It will grow back sooner than you expect.

<<<<Hugs>>>>

When I do need a trim/cut, I am probably going to SuperCuts. My trusted stylist moved out of state in 2007 and I am not even going through the search again to find someone to just trim/cut. Maybe I will try to trim my own hair one day?

I'm sorry that your hair cut was jacked up but I hate to see you group all black people together in one big melting pot. We are the only people who do that to our own. If we have a bad experience with another AA we will completely stop going to AA owned businesses. Instead of realizing that our experiences are just that, our experiences and they dont reflect the experience that we may have with other AA businesses. You wont see Asian people, white people or ____ people saying that because they had a bad experience with a ______ (their own race) that they wont step foot in a _______ business again.

I hate hearing that mess from my own people and I see alot of that on this site. Every black stylist aint jealous because of your texture or length (thats such an immature way of thinking and it falls into colorism) how about YOU (you should never just jump into a chair out without researching a person) picked a bad stylist. How about that INDIVIDUAL stylist did not possess the skills needed to satisfy your needs? The responsibility falls on TWO set of shoulders (of course more so on the stylist) but you cant fully escape your part because you jumped into her chair instead of waiting for your normal stylist. Now you want to dog out a whole race of people in a particular category because of your experience with one (or a couple). Please believe that those sacred white salons have just as many inadequate white stylist as black owned salons with black stylist.... its across the board. Its an individual thing, NOT a race thing, its about that individuals training and skill level. Its up to you to do your research.

This isn't the FIRST bad experience I have had with a AA stylist and I'm not the ONLY person here that feels this way....2s,3s,4s,5s. So you do the math. My regular stylist IS AA but now choses to work in an "other" salon. And we need to start calling out our OWN for being so damn hateful. I just witnessed an AA stylist try to cut the hair of a child. (AND I said long and healthy hair of all textures by the way..AND I also said I support black businesses. I think you just stopped processing after you read 3/2 hair texture) Research my post. Where you there in the salon? Did you get a sense or feeling of that stylist intentions. No. Why? Because YOU weren't there but I was. And I stand by there alot of more JEALOUS AA stylist than incompetent.

And who's dropping all black people in on melting pot? Are you serious? I find you offensive and I don't appreciate being "read". So please go piss on somebody elses post. I have had a stressful two days I am not in the mood...

My mama always said a kicked dog will holla.

Over 60,000 members and YOU are in the minority so you do the math. My regular stylist IS AA but now choses to work in an "other" salon. So please go piss on somebody elses post. My hair just got hacked off and I am not in the mood to be lectured.

My "lecturing" post was to everyone and anyone that feels that way. Honestly I feel bad for you guys that think like this because you allow yourself to believe the hype :nono:. And while I wasnt trying to downplay your precious hair, honey bunches, I was just pointing to an underlying subconscious that is present on this forum in some of the post. Yours just happened to be the post I commented in concerning it. Also, I am free to *as you put it* "piss" in any thread I wish. I have never cared nor will I ever care if I go against the grain and end up in that *miserable * minority you speak of:lachen:I never had a follow the leader mentality so I'm ok with that. I have my own drum beat that i march to thank you very much :yep:

I am so sorry this happened to you. What was she thinking!?!? My Gawd, and to think I was thinking about going to a stylist to get a professional trim.

My precious hair? Your colors are showing..

My mom took my DD to a stylist who cut a THICK, 5 inch section of her hair. She tried to say it was an accident and that it happened with the flat iron, but the truth is that it was perfectly even and there was no burned hair at all.

It was cut.

We lived in Britain at the time, and when I called, she never picked up the phone. It took 1 year to grow that section back b/c it's in the top middle of her head - her slowest growing section. She did it on purpose!!!

I don't think I would "do" anything, but fire would shoot from my head every time I saw her if I were you. I am so sorry this happened to you, but I am glad that we all have each other here on the forum.

Blessings to you and you weave it back to it's former length and beyond.... *virtual hugs!!*

There is a disturbing propensity for certain "setbacks" to plague long haired BW usually involving having several inches of hair "accidently" cut off. Yes, I've seen non Blacks complain of abuses from stylists, usually involving hair dye, but rarely do they complain of having several inches-feet of hair cut from their heads w/o their permission.

Bella is hardly the 1st or last to experience this (I know of one other person this week who ended up w/ far more hair gone than Bella in similar circumstances) and to pretend there's no correlation to AA stylists and long haired BWs becoming visibly less so is to be in denial. In many ways, these (too) frequent incidents are partly why BW "can't grow long hair" they literally have it cut off their heads when they sit in a stylist's chair! I know what condition Bella's hair was in immediately before she got SCALPED....there was no "damage" or any other excuse that justified what this person did. Research will do you no good when your back it turned on someone w/ scissors...the hair is gone and it was done against her wishes.

I've been a member here far too long and have seen the hairdresser comments too often to think it's ALL in people's heads. Nor do I think it's an issue of colorism either, at least on the part of the CLIENT. The color/length/texture-ism, if it exists at all in these sad tales, is on the part of the scissor wielding stylists! Bottom line, no stylist has a right to DICTATE to their clients and make decisions on their behalf w/o their assent. They are service providers and if they consistently provide poor service, it should be made known.

How many naturals WITH LONG HAIR are running to salons, esp AA ones? I surely ain't and I know many who'd rather eat dirt than do so. Any guesses why that might be?

In places where Dominican stylists are, they're getting tons of biz from BW who are defecting from AA salons. The same is true for Ethiopian stylists who are rapidly gaining a great rep. Even naturals who are terrified of heat are starting to consider Dominican stylists as an option because they like the results and see that the vast majority of BW hair stays on BW heads!

I'm sick and tired of seeing BW treated in this manner and how often it happens. It's as if our wishes don't matter even when we're PAYING :hand::nono2: In most of the country, AA stylists have a monopoly on AA relaxed heads and naturals steer far clear (for many reasons...scalping being one of the most notorious). Competition is just what the Dr. ordered, IMHO.

AA stylists better wake up cuz as Dominicans and Ethiopians start opening up shop around America, they will get tons of clients and keep them IF they provide service on the level they're known for on the East Coast.

I am very sorry for your loss. I learned my lesson a long time ago with letting stylists "trim" your hair. My mother took me to the beauty salon when I was 11 and she let the woman trim my hair. This lady literally hacked off my hair. I was hysterical and crying and my mother cried because I was so upset. I was in a hair competition with my friend. We used to always argue about who had the most hair so when this woman cut off several inches I was hysterical. I never let a stylist near my head again. Ive been to several bad stylists I never met a good one . I do my own hair now. I havent been to a salon in years . I wish I could've warned you. These black hair stylists be hating hard when they "Trim" your hair.

So sorry this happened to you OP. You hair was and is still beautiful but she had no reason at all to cut so much.

I think its immature to assume that every black stylist "be hating on" your hair and texture just because of the experiences you've had with a few. No I dont think that there is a conspiracy for black stylist to cut off black women hair. I do believe that people have had bad experiences with INDIVIDUALS. I also know alot of people stop going to salons for MANY different reasons, one of the more popular is because of $$$. What I do believe is that there are horrible stylist in every demographic and across every color line, I dont believe that its just in AA salons. If you dont see this attitude of *all* black stylist are like this and *all* black stylist are like that as one that reflects social steretypes and colorism then thats your fault.

I do believe that we all have a responsibility to research and seek out highly skilled people to help care for things that we see as dear to us. I dont believe that the more highly skilled individuals dont look like me but then again maybe you guys have been to every black salon and had every black stylist do your hair and thats why you can group everyone in this negative self hating stereotype. So then by all means carry on, but dont say a word when other races do the same thing to blacks and believe stereotypes about YOU because of your skin color.

As for thinking that my colors are showing because i called your hair precious, if that makes you feel better then by all means believe it, but trust me when I say i wont lose sleep over you or your hair or even your views on long hair and black stylist. I was being sarcastic in tone but the easy way to deal with things is to say someone is hating on you or jealous of you when that could be the furthest thing from their mind. smh.

Did anyone on this board say *all* black stylist? I am sooo glad you are not my hairstlylist, because if you listened as well you read I would be bald..

Geez...

I'm not trying to be rude, but there are hateful, jealous AA stylist out there. I can't remember the name of one poster but she put it so well: "A lot of AA women become hair stylist so they can exorcise their demons on our hair" That stuck with me because it is so true!

NaturalDetriot in theory, your sentiments read good and are wonderfully PC, however I suspect you're rather new to the game as well as being a new member to this site? Cutting off 2-6in of someone's hair is NOT an "accident" when they ask for a trim. Perhaps you find it difficult to believe that there are many people invested in the belief that BW CAN'T and SHOULDN'T have long hair (given the theme of this forum, it's oft discussed) however, there's clear evidence some people are invested in just that. Stylists are the people who can literally make this true and do more often than you'd suspect. That people notice a discernable pattern to this is simply being observant. It's more likely to happen in AA shops than otherwise. Nope, not all AA stylists are this way, but enough are to take note of it. Sorry. :hide:

We'll see if you're so philosophical IF this eventually happens to you. :giggle: Being natural w/ a ton of shrinkage (if that's you in your icon) doesn't bode well for you in seeking a stylist that knows how to properly handle your hair. As you read around on this site, you'll notice that most of the WL+ stick w/ DiY. Perhaps that's WHY they're WL+ and STAY that way! ;)

You're absolutely right! I'm tired of people blaming the "victim!" Yes, I could have sat around and wached this woman trim hair. But if someone is licensed by the state, any reasonable person would assume that the stylist knows the a. metric/imperial US unit system b. isn't blind and c. can follow directions! Unfortunately, we see where "assuming" got me... 4" cut off my hair!

If I take my car in to be serviced and they screw it up is that my fault?

Oh she need her behind royally kicked. You just keep the faith and it will be back its same length in no time. When I 1st moved to Augusta my cousin recommended her hair stylist. She curled my hair but, when I got home curls started to fall and I combed my hair and hair was coming out The ***** burned my hair out. Girl I was 38 and smoking I called her back and let her have it. So at least your hair was not burnt out almost at the roots. It could have been worst.

i always cut my hair myself. and it comes out even every timee. just take section by section and snip a little. i feel sad that this happened to you. i would have snaped! well....first of all i would have been watching that B in the mirror and if i saw them scissors, it would be a wrap for her.
