Ya'll Are Gonna Think I'm Crazy (Oil Wash?)

Wow...so this has been around here for a while now. Is she still a member...I wonder if she still does this. It woul dbe great to speak to someone who has done this long-term. No water, ehhhh? ....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

You were right, it did become another big idea! :yep:

SO I SEE

HEHE

4 THE LADIES QUESTIONING THE USE OF NO WATER. I AM SURE WITH OR WITHOUT WORKS FINE. I POSTED AN ALBUM ON HOW I DID IT , WELL THE INFO IS ON A PIC

THIS IS MY HAIR AFTER

http://public.fotki.com/IRRISISTABLBTCH/2006/chaka_khan/

NO BUILD UP

ITS STARTS OUT OILY , BUT IF YOU HAVE THIRSTY HAIR LIKE ME , IT JUST DRINKS IT UP.

I THINK I SAID YOU CAN WORK THIS IN A WAY THAT WORKS FOR YOU, BUT ADDING THE OIL RINSE AT ANY POINT, IS WONDERFULL

I HAVE SINCE DONE IT ALL KIND OF WAYS

WET/DRY AND SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN

WITH CONDITIONER, WITHOUT

ANY WAY I WORK IT ,IT JUST WORKS

ITS A GREAT BREAK FROM WATER. IN BETWEEN WASHING/RINSING

WATER IS VERY DRYING , AT LEAST FOR MY HAIR

Hmmm..... Well, I guess if it worked for you then it works, though I don't see how. I'm no Bill Nuy the Science Guy, but IIRC cleaning something works b/c the soap or whatever, binds to the dirt, and then soap+dirt combo dissolves in water and rinses away. Oil+hair sebum--ok, that will bind, but oil+dirt? Does that bind? And even if it does, when it comes to rinsing, it's not going to dissolve. But again, it worked for you--passed the scratch test and all, so guess it works!:)

I'll definately say this was an interesting read... I hate to admit it but I usually get bored after the first paragraph (I think I have add or something) but you've managed to keep me interested lol... But curious to what you think is cheaper??? Oil wash or conditioner wash??? Whats a good cheap oil to use and would this work for natural hair?

I dont think it matters and would mostly depend on what oils/conditioners your choosing to use. a good cheap oil is Olive Oil I mean thats the cheapest I can think of. I am sure any oil will work the same or any oil your hair likes. I am sure this is only for the hair that loves oil and the ladies that love oil. It most definitely works for natural hair. I think it would work for relaxed hair only during protective styling where oil wouldnt matter or for overnight then rinse and style after.

Soy oil/vegtable oil is really cheap. :yep: $5 a gallon or something like that.

i know grapeseed oil is good but it was a no go for me. because it made me itch!

oh snap i just thought of something

this method saved my daughters hair.

new post coming up

for over a week now

i've been slathering my dry hair with conditioner (it's mostly cheap conditioners, but there's also some kenra mc mixed in to kick it up) mixed with oil (grapeseed and i just added castor yesterday)...i made sure i put a lot of oil in it, too.

i leave the mixture on overnight and rinse with cool water in the morning

i've been doing this everynight.

absolutely love it so far!

i dont do oil only washes, though

I havent been doing them straight any more either. I think it works great with conditioners too

i'm loving that i added the castor oil in to the mixture.

my hair feels so good right now...soft

i had given up castor oil because it was too thick for me (for sealing and such)

but using it this way is great.

Irresistable, Sareca, and everyone else who contributed to this thread... YOU ROCK! Thanks for this! I'm going to try it out sometime.

bump, I slept on this method but I remembered her posting about it in 06. I loooooovveee this method and I know a lot of yall love it too.
:lachen::lachen::lachen:
was just going thru this thread again cause I posted it in another thread this post had me busting up. whew! :lachen::lachen:

Thanks for bumping this. I have never heard of just using oil to wash your hair w/o water. Awesome. I do pre-poo but usually don't really soak it much nor keep the oil after I wash out my scalp and condition it. Last weekend my wash went to another level. I noted my hair was very moisturized in the process, cause I didn't wash the oil out totally. I had the pre-poo oil in my hair for 2 days and did a touchup with a little bit of more oil on the 2nd day. And lastly I did a really good detangling at the roots with NTM then some oils. No problem at all throughout the wash, combing was a breeze in the shower and out.

I was planning to repeat what I did coming this Sat. Yet one day I want to just try doing a true oil wash. Very interesting.

Wow, I didn't realize u were doing it w/o water. Did u ty it other ways or do u still use this method?

For my hair once water hits it , it's immediately going to be more work for me. So the oil wash is an in-between a water wash method that cleanses out products etc. while totally softening the hair

If I rinse my hair with water , I will not be rinsing the oil I put back in my hair after

If I do an oiling of my hair in between I don't always do it as an oil wash-I just oil my hair

I use this as a quick-fix at times, and it works great and much less work, buys time before I get to a wash (which is always a cowash not shampoo wash) and my hair always feel great after

I do indeed still do this , I just did it recently with olive oil and it delivered the same amazing results as I posted years back:yep:

oil rinsing/washing does removed products , and I'm one that doesnt have any problems with having oily hair, the oils really do fully absorb very shortly after, but for others that have issues with oils , they can do they many other variations of oil rinsing with water

since I want oil in my hair I have no use for rinsing it out with water after, for me its either oils only, or water followed by oil

thank you so much, ladies, for bumping this thread up!

i had never heard of washing the hair with oil! (and our facial skin, too?!)

great dscovery, Irresistible!

by the way, does your hair have to be in a braid BEFORE you bend over in the tub to wash in oil? meaning, does that help to keep the tangles away and the squeezing focused/easier?

thanks!

Thanks girl. I imagine you can do it that way-I did it/do it with loose hair tho:yep:

It is possible to reuse the oil you squeeze out as have a bowl to catch it or something or would that oil be dirty? Would straining or boiling help fix that?

I tired this with safflower and grape seed oil as well as sesame and it didnt work. :nono: my hair came out so tangled. may have something to do with hard water. i hope it does because i need some ceramides.

Ive been living in a hard water area for 3 years now. I was afraid of what would happen to my hair because of others posting the nightmares of it and actually I know for a fact it's the amount of oil I use that saved me from having any hard water issues

The water is extremely hard here too

for the oil rinse the way I do it, I am litterally rinsing oil through my hair and working it through and squeezing it out to remove products and at the same time moisturize my hair-I would not keep the oil that is squeezed out for anything

Unless you are doing a clean hair oil rinse, there wouldn't be a point. I do remember somewhere someone saying they started to use a bowl to catch it and re-rinse or run it through again-but I only see doing that on clean hair-for the sole purpose of a pure oil rinse just for the oil

I wouldnt strain it or boil it either.

btw tangles melt away with the oil rinse it doesnt cause tangling like any wash with water. It actually helps detangle while getting all product out of your hair

I am familiar with oil rinses but I searched yt for an example of oil wash. I found a woman doing a shampoo with mineral oil. Her mother removed the excess oil with a hot towel after squeezing oil and dirt out of her hair. I understand that you just squeezed out oil until it ran clear.

I will post link. It is NOT your process but may help as a visual aid for the rest of us. Yep, Ise an oil junkie
