WORST HAIR EXPERIENCE EVER!!

Ok ladies. I just took my braids out after having them in for 2 months. Altogether not very much shedding. I was scheduled to go to this lady who my mom recmmended. At first thought, I figured she did natural hair professionally....WRONG!! And her techniques revealed this. She ripped through my natural head something serious. I had to pretend that I was tender headed just so she would be gentle on my head. Oh I forgot to mention she was putting some twists in my hair. I feel like such a failure.:wallbash: I believe that most of the length that I would have gained is ruined!! I just know that my hair would not have shed as much as it did had she not yanked at it repeatedly, even after I moaned and wined. Natural 4b ladies, what do you do to keep other people from ripping through your hair?

I'm sorry that happened to you. My former stylist was rough with combing my hair while it was wet. She would quickly rake through my hair from root to tip.

I'm not natural yet - I'm 6 months into a transition and I've been doing my own hair the entire time, so I don't have any good advice on how to keep a stylist from doing this. Maybe you can ask around to find a stylist that will be gentle and take his/her time with your hair.

Please don't feel like a failure. You went to this stylist based on your mom's recommendation and you thought that she would do a good job. A lot of us here have had setbacks from salon visits that went wrong.

ooh Lawd. I'm so sorry. I think some "professionals" do this even with relaxed hair. This is why I do my own hair needless to say.

my mom does this too my little sister sometimes :nono: she goes searching for dandruff and my sister has all these broken hairs on her shirt...no one wants to listen to me though...they think im weird because i wear half wigs and stay on this website...as soon as I make my big reveal on my bday i bet theyll start listening

im so sorry this happened to u...i would recommend DCing and detangling b4 going to the stylist. u can put ur hair in 4-6 flattwists, cornrows or plaits after detangling so that it can stay that way.

I really hate to hear that this happened to you. Trust me, I know the feeling. I've had a number of bad hair experiences, and I'm still recovering from the last one. There have been times that I have actually left the salon if someone was mistreating my hair. I really feel that it's best. It doesn't have to be in a rude way, but you have to do what's best for your hair. I know its the worst feeling to have someone rip through your hair :nono:. Don't feel bad though. Your hair will recover...just give it some TLC :yep:.

mmm mmm mmm... I had this happen to me this week. It wasn't a professional though. I'm not sure why people feel the need to work through our texture of hair with a small tooth comb. Of all the times I've seen other textures of hair comb theirs.. its never a small tooth comb, especially if the hair is long.

IDK its crazy to me. But I know I didn't sleep well that night and everytime I turned over I thought about my hair...:nono:

Ive been natural for about 2 years and some change and Im scared to got to stylist. Im thinking about getting my hair straightened professionally though...that or Im getting a Maxiglide!

sorry about your bad experience
the best thing is to learn to do your hair yourself because some of these 'stylists' really couldn't care less

I don't play that. I even purchased a bone comb for my stylist to use on my hair. She takes her times but on those days when it seems like she is not being as gentle, I will stop her and comb it myself. I did that the last time she pressed it because she was tired and seemed to be rushing a little. I would detangle the section and she would blow dry it.

As for you, we have to see how we can baby your hair back to health. How is it doing now? Is it shedding? Do you still have the twists in? Provide us with as much info as possible. I am so sorry this happened to you my newbie. Hugs and  Q

Sad this happened to you. I know the best advice everyone is giving already is to DIY. But, sometimes we dont' want to DIO we would rather relax and pay someone else to do it. And I feel the same way too.

However, what we must realize not many people take their jobs as an art or as something to be proud about. They are only concerned with keeping the appointment book packed and money in the bank. So if one client leaves they will have room for the next.

With this in mind we have to understand that we will not always get the best treatment when dealing with stylist and it becomes necssary that we take matters into our own hands.

Hopefully, you will hear about a stylist that really does care. But, until that day it's best to DIY.

I've had to learn to DIY in some really important areas of hair, because everytime I've had a bad experience at the salon I felt used and abused. Like if my BF said Oh I am just using you for free rides or something. I don't have a BF, but you get it..finding out someone you trust was just using you.
