Women who wear hair scarves and bonnets out.

I think it's all about the way you rock your scarf/bonnet; and I sure enough ROCK mine. I've never really cared what people thought of me wearing mine anyway, because I have my own reasons for wearing them when I do. Often for me wearing them has nothing to do with the fact of not taking 5 minutes to comb my hair. No, often it's because I'm in the middle of twisting/braiding my hair and well some of us can't/don't have enough to pull off a bun or ponytail. Scarf? Bonnet? Haha, an easy go to-if I can't find a slouch hat or beret that is!

@lesedi, I tried to make a tutorial in pics a while back. It's based on the same bow procedure as the others. I used a Pashmina scarf and basically did what I am doing in this pictorial tutorial (going from left to right)--you can see the bow bottom left and then the fluffed up end result bottom right. In order to have enough material to go around, after folding the scarf lengthwise, I put it around my head nearer one end...so I that when I cross over in the back, I have enough material to twist and take around my head, then comes the bow where the two ends meet in the back:

Now I know exactly what to do with my pashmina, I was debating how to wear it since it's so big! :D Thanks Nonie!

Was just gonna wear it like this at first!

I still wear my scarves like they did out here in the 90's; big wrap bun in the back. Almost like Nonie's but not as fancy, lol. I have them in different colors and patterns so it always dresses up anything I wear.

I wear a scarf sometimes. I try to make it look fashionable like June Ambrose. I won't wear a bonnet. I really don't have a reason to. I can just wet my hair and fro it out if I need to make a quick run.

I'm not going to lie haha.
Im twenty, and I'm a student, no kids or anything.
But if I'm doing my hair, I don't take it out to look presentable haha.
I don't find it necessary.
I rock the scarf when I feel like it.
I've even worn rollers out quite a few times.

:look: Doesn't bother me! I say, keep it moving.

I wear scarves in public only at the gym. I make sure its still cute.

Something loosely like this to keep my hair off my face while the top is in a bun or loose pineapple.

Scarves/ties cool.
Granny bonnets not so cool.

...especially with grease stains.

I love thoase knotted bun scarves, and it's my signature look when I'm collecting the kids with a DC in my hair and don't wanna rinse yet.

Way to rock it! Nonie

theres a problem with this? Mall, or some place you're gonna be out a while, then no take it off or make it stylish. But to run errands,run to the store,a quick out the house thing plleaasseeeee.Scarf and or bonnet rockin allllllll day... i'm not undoing twist or braids for 10 mintues or less out of the house...say what you will.

There's a world of difference between the $3.99 BSS night scarf and a scarf that is clearly meant to be worn as an accessory. They are usually made of better quality fabric and can be tied a number of different ways. Now bonnets are a no go. I wish somebody would say something about my scarf.

I'd rather see that than the rollers, jacked up hair, or hair under construction that it's covering up.

i agree i love scarves some girls can rock them so cant. but head scarves are just trifling. oh well i continue to let them lose with a night rag on in public lol

i do styles that dont require a scarf on daily maybe thats why im not obsessed with going out with a scarf i do bananna clips and buns...i cant be that lazy to NOT touch my hair because those are easy styles..i dont think i would deserve hair if i was that lazy lol

No scarf:

Surely there are more pressing things to worry about than how subpar women with scarves will end up looking in public. I know we're talking about bonnets, etc. too and it doesn't always look fashionable like these ^ pictures, but anything can look good or bad (or sometimes somebody can look bad for a second but they don't care because they know what it is or they have something more pressing going on in life--so who am I to care?), so, really que sera sera.

i only like this one lol

It's not an easy style as there are too many components to make it look "not crazy" lol but I really like it when it doesn't look too voluminous, when the scarf is very nice and not too flamboyant and when it is tied up in a nice way... and with the edges slightly out, like this:

(I grabbed the pictures from google and tumblr, if you recognize yourself and don't agree I'll remove them!)

Chantal Biya's Meet the Pope hair/headware combo (bottom photo) is one of my all-time favorites. It goes with the rest of her, which is ultimately what counts. She makes me think of those 18th century French ladies who decorated their hair/hats with stuffed birds, clipper ships, scale models of the family chateau, etc.

@Nonie :lol:
A pope thing? She can actually sport it! Ok, let's draw some more limits here: I generally prefer the African and Abstract themes :lachen:

By the way, I guess I am now forced to confess the real reason why I hate volume.{[(I have a huge cranium and everyone thinks it's my hair but it's NOT. And this is the last time I say it)]}

please, i wear my scarf all the time. even carry it in my purse to whip out just in case. i could care less, my hair is a top priority! i still get attention. regular black satin scarf, no buns, roses or dohickeys :lol: and my silver hoop earrings.

I am seeing more women with bonnets out in public, in the mall, etc lately. It's an epidemic.. ugh. Bonnets bother me more than the Aunt Jemima style head scarf and those are still pretty bad.

It used to be chic to wear a scarf out.

I have a bonnet that I wear under a knit hat. That's about it. It's like a lighter-weight version of this:
