WIG CHALLENGE for 2007

Hey Ladies!
I've worn my 3/4 all day today and I want to start wearing it during the week, but I'm not sure of what to do with my hair. I'm sitting with conditioner on it now. My questions are:
1-what's the best way to prepare and care for the hair that's left out in the front?
2-what do you suggest i do with my hair in the back? I braided one cornrow across the bottom/nape and covered with a stocking cap but I'm not sure if that's what I'm suppose to be doing or even if that's the best method.
TIA!!!

You sound like you are doing just fine. I highly recommend covering the part of the hair under the wig with some type of hair net, stocking cap something so as it does not rub up against the wig and cause damage to your natural hair. I use all kinds of coverings under my wig piece. I have used plastic conditioning caps when I wanted to do an all day conditioning or a baggie method.

I would also make sure that when you wash your wig you a wig shampoo and wig conditioner. Do not manipulate the hair much while it is wet. Basicially place water and shampoo in a sink place you wig in there let it sit for at least 3-5 mintues dunk in up and down a few times then let the water out and do the same with clear water to rinse it.

If you really like a wig and will be wearing it almost every day I would suggest if your budget allows get two of the same that way you won't wear them out so quickly. If you have a synthetic wig or pieces they will last longer than human hair. I would get a wig head or the plastic wig heads you put together to keep your maintain your wigs also.

Hope these tips help!

I was just about to ask about this. I have one that I am wearing almost daily, I can rotate between 2 and need to know how to care for it. Because they are curly they are full but I am noticing that they are getting "nappy". I was wondering if it would be better if I was to wear a human 1/2 wig or simply buy more synethic wigs!! I was praying that the answer was not the latter....

I'm in. I've been wearing a instant wig since Jan., and I have grown and retained 3 inches. This is the best kept secret. I am so glad you started this challenge.

Very helpful indeed! Thanks!!!

Also, what do you do with the hair that's left out in the top for fall wearers? I don't want to end up damaging that hair since its not hidden.

When I wear straight falls(wearing one right now), every 2 weeks I wash and re-braid my hair. The part of my hair I leave out, I air dry and flat iron it. Every night before I wrap my hair up, I roll it up with a satin covered sponge roller(they sell them at Walmart) and blend in the morning. I can usually go 1-2 weeks without having to flat iron again.

For curly styles, I either braid or twist the hair my night and wrap it up. Blend in the morning.

HTH

If it's not too late please add me to the list! I have been using wigs as part of the hide your hair challenge and plan to continue doing so for the rest of this year!

Thanks a bunch! Definitely didn't want to start hitting it with the flat iron every day.

What does everyone do with their hair underneath? I have a lf that I haven't been able to wear because of my hair and the bulky-ness. You may see unapplied pics in my fotki..pw is blackpride

Here's two of my falls...one's curly and the other one's straight.

I twist my front and braid the back. Since I am using the baggy method on the back of my hair I tuck my hair in the braids and then place the plastic cap on my moisturized and sealed hair.

I want to get a lace front but I am just researching it now. I am confused about what you are to do with the front, do you glue it to to your head?

Wow! I am in. I wear a wig now and so many people think it's my hair. I think I might take the clips out too because it feels like it might be to much stress on the front of my hairline and I don't want it to come out.:D

Do any of you wear lace front wigs???? Please PM me or let me know if you do. I am seriously thinking about purchasing one and I would love some input advice comments and suggestions before I do.

I'm in! I am currently wearing a lacefront and plan to stick to them until my hair reaches WL. I have been wearing my lacefront since the beginning of February and my hair has been doing really well.

Im in too! Ive been wearing a half wig since last Wednesday and a phony pony for two weeks before that. My hairs twisted in the front with braids in the back and I wash, deep condish and redo every Wednesday.

I do corn rows or flat twists once in a blue moon I will wear the front just pulled back and under the wig but I don't do that often.

I have had this style for 3 weeks. That is a first but I had been travelling so it stayed in tacked and the curly hair covered most of the front.

I use daily some sort of spritz and my Vatika and some Qhemets heavy cream or pomade to keep the front nourished. I will put this all over my head before I put the wig on. I spray my wig with a wig conditioner or braid spray for synthetic hair and that way both my wig and the front of my hair have a really nice sheen to it.

Mscocoface I LOVE that fall! That is a fall, right? Can I ask what brand it is and the style name.

I'm in for this challenge, because I haven't relaxed my hair since December, and I never relax in the spring/summer. I figure that I'll have gone 9 months between relaxers so I might as well NOT relax for a year (or more..not sure)

I tried falls before, but I always wore the straight ones, and my hair texture w/ the straight ones was not a good match. I have found a curly fall that I LOVE and no one seems to know that it's not my hair, but I want more curly/wavy hair options besides that one.

I'm taking notes on taking the combs out, baggying, deep conditioning, etc;
My hair is just shoulder length now, but after the big trim I'm about to do, it might just graze my neck. this challenge comes right on time, so I'm in!

Any curly haired fall wearers, please list brands and style names for me..TIA

WELCOME EVERYONE!

I "think" I've added everyone to the list- but please double check and pm me if I missed you! :p

Thank you DC Brown! Those are cute!

I'm seeing a lot that curly falls don't last so long. If I can get them to last 3-4 weeks I'll be happy. I'm excited for this challenge. I'm trying to figure out my regimen and then sticking to it. Once I have that down, and my falls in order, I will schedule my hair cut and go from there.

Good luck to the other ladies!

Oh..and for the castor oil tip..applying it to the combs...are we using REAL castor oil, or the cream kind that comes in the pink and white jar (can't think of the name)

I also though..what if a silk ribbon was wrapped around the combs? Has anyone tried that...to cover up the edges of the teeth?

I am noticing that curly falls or 1/2 wigs as I call them do not last as long. I don't like straight ones because they seem to have nappy looking ends after a while of wearing them. I have never worn my wigs for this long and I am in serious need of some help with how to take care of them. Right now I am wearing synthetic hair, should I purchase real hair and just take care of it like I take care of my real hair? Or should I continue to go with synthetic and do........(need this to filled in)
