Reason #1 that I will not get a full wig. I am scared that its going to be sliding back and my roots are going to end up showing. I wore one a few years back and was horried that you "could tell"....lol I'll stick to my 1/2 wigs and add more to my collection so that I can have all the variety in the world!

Thank you curldiva! We are so blessed and ready to get it over with....I told my fiancee' last night that I was going to be wearing wigs, except for our wedding day, this year and he was like "okay" I know he is tired of hearing me talk about my hair LOL

For moisture I usually use my water/conditioner mix in the spray bottle and seal with my oil spray...However I am noticing that my roots are still feeling dry, so I am hearing so much about scurl that I am going to purchase that and try it to see how it works. I really concentrate on my roots since they tend to be "out" more when I am braiding up the back and then graze the braids and ends because they retain moisture better. But this new growth (current transitioner) is sucking up everything that I put in it. Any tips on that?!?!?[/quote]

YES - My hair is totally natural, and it LOVES Scurl!

I also add Dr. Miracle Braid Spray (super) after MTG to cut the smell and the pepermint cause a great scalp tingle. Then I seal everything with castor oil or a heavy cream product.

Anything too watery just doesn't work well for me.:look:

I'm wanna join in too. I love my half wigs. I have so many of them.

Welcome Jenaee! :D

Any tips or words of wisdom that you would like to share with some of the "wig" newbies?

I have on a half/wig right this second but I cannot join the challenge since I don't wear them all the time. However, I do have 3 good tips:

1. Unless you have dense hair, do not attempt to wear a half/wig if you've just gotten a fresh relaxer or if your hair is very straight. I did this once and went to a party and the sucka started shifting and sliding back. I had to walk around like I had a stiff neck so it wouldn't move.

2. Remove the comb from the back (the top comb still keeps it in place) and use the other poster's tip on putting castor oil on the crown comb

3. In order to prevent any of my ends from being out, I put my hair into a ponytail with a side swoop while baggying the ends. If you wear a plastic cap or a wig cap you can put it on 1/2 of your head at this point. I then put on the 1/2 wig by sticking the comb in the crown. Then I put on a headband with elastic in the back or you can fold and tie a scarf to cover the part that shows where the 1/2 wig meets your hair. When using the headband, I usually pull bottom of the wig under the elastic for reinforcement. Your hair is essentially in a regular baggied/bunned/whatever ponytail but you have a new head of hair (the 1/2 wig) that you can rock like your own.

Good luck on the challenge ladies and I hope this helps someone.

I agree with the castor oil on the combs. I keep the majority of my hair in corn rows with a small portion out to blend. I take it off every night and wrap my hair up with a satin scarf. Every other night, I apply my Boundless Tresses(unscented MTG) and follow up with castor oil on the ends of my braids. I wash and DC every week. Also, if you dont want any of your hair out, get a boat load of headbands so cover where the half wig begins.

That's about it. It's been working for me.

I'm in. I have been in full wigs since the end of January of this year and have found it an easy way to keep my hair protected with out the use of synthetic braids. I wear my real hair braided, moisturized and baggied underneath.

Me either. I dont think that my hair suffered because of using the water/conditioner but it didn't flourish either and I knew that I had to change it. Now I believe that using the Elasta Mango Butter is going to be the answer that I needed....its first ingredient is purified water so its a good moisturizer but its creamy not watery:D

What a coinky dink, I told myself I was going to stretch, keep my real hair braided one month at a time and wear wigs until the 4th of July, so I'm in. So, for those who wear there real hair braided underneath, do you all wash and deep condition once a week while in braids?

I don't. I take my hair completely out because I have curly hair that will tangle if its braided when wet its the best thing for me. Besides I need to keep track of breakage since I am transitioning.

I'm definitely in. Wigs are really great for me since I'm natural. I like different styles and wigging it provides a different look without heat.

Oh, yeah, make sure you ask your BSS if they will cut your wig for you. A lot of them offer this service real cheap or even free! It makes a real difference especially with bangs. Good luck everyone!

Welcome:

:) SwtnLow - sounds like a great regimen!

:) JTurner - I wash/dc twice per week while braided and re-braid every 2 weeks.

:) SexyScorpio - I never knew a BSS would trim a wig- a great tip!

and

Thanks DLewis (you're one of my hair inspirations) - Your children are so beautiful!:)

I guess I am a part of this by accident. I have been travelling and wanted to find a style that was simple and I got bored with my hair.

Here is what I have done. I find that I can do the baggie method with this also and I did an Indigo to match the wig I have on. Everyone that has seen it thinks it is my hair or they are just being very nice.

It is interesting because I did not think it looked that good but I have gotten more compliments with this than I did my twists. So for now I am staying with this type of style for the next few months possibly the rest of the year.

I took some of the curl out of this wig to make it fuller and I placed it on the back of my head and braided the front. When I get home I am going to try flat twists in the front and put this or another short and curly back on my head.

Here is the back shot.

It has been great because I can take it off at night and not have to deal with any length or my own hair for a minute.

I discovered half wigs earlier this year. I really need to post some pics! Anyway, here's my thoughts: If you work out GET ONE! There also great if you have to get cute real quick and don't want to drop $300.00 on weave! Thanks for castor oil tip!

Ive been rocking my wigs since the beginning of the year. i love it! Here is a picture of my bss wig ive been wearing for the past three weeks...

Hi Aunty - are you telling me that I can get my freak on in my WIG! I plan to sew it on during my vacation and if I know I'm having a special "overnight" guest.;)

I agree that synthetic wigs hold up better - but I just bought my first 100% that is so pretty - prefect length and cut- that I could resist.

Wig Wearers Unite

Yes, you can wear it in the bed. Sometimes I put a scarf on and let the hair hang out of the back and sides if I don't want to take it off and scare the dude.

I have found that the tangles and frizzing that you get when you play around in the bed or sleep with it on tend to wear the wig out faster. You will never get that straight, nice, newness again, especially if you were being more passionate than cute. You feel me.

Hello ladies! I would love to take part in this challenge I normally just read posts but this challenge has sparked my interest. I recently was introduced to the world of half wigs and it has been a lifesaver(and timesaver) for me, I workout about 4 times a week and the half wigs allow me to still have a cute do. Count me in!!

Just did my hair for the week. Its saving me so much time by not having to do co-washes in the middle of the week. I have my hair 2 strand twisted in the front and braided in the back. Updated pictures are on my fotki! and I am back to my handy dandy curly "girlfriend" this week. I keep hearing some of you say that you can hold your wigs out for at least a month so that is what I am going to be doing.

Personally I won't keep my wig in once I get home, but I will walk around with my plastic cap on the back 1/2 like I am doing now. I am worried that with wearing them so much that the front combs digging in my hair is going to break my hair off. So I remove it as soon as I get home. Guess that only applies to those that wear 1/2 wigs or 3/4 wigs. lol

I'm in. I just joined this board after months of lurking and I think this is the perfect fit for me.

I've been wearing full wigs since December and I love the ease of it, not to mention the $$ I've saved by not going to the shop every 2 weeks. I really don't have a regimen... I just wash and deep condition every two weeks and tie my hair up and protect with a wig cap.

Okay ladies how are you doing!?!?!?

Last night was the first time that my fiancee' has seen me with a wig and he was feeling it but as soon as we got to his house, I took it off and he jumped LOL He wants me to put it away when I am not wearing it at home LOL
