WIG CHALLENGE for 2007

:) I know there are lots of WIG (i.e. Lace Front, Instant Weave, Falls) wearers out there…

Would anyone like to join me in a WIG CHALLENGE for 2007? There is just one simple rule – a full or half cap WIG- is your protective style of CHOICE.

Let’s share our WIG regimens, product suggestions, any tips for styling.

Here are some of my favorite WIG Tips:

  • Take care of your real hair underneath the WIG – this is a prefect opportunity to wash, condition, or do all of the great treatments or techniques without sacrificing a day-to-day look
  • Treat your wig as gently as you would your REAL hair – this reinforces how I need to handle my hair once it reaches my length goals.
  • Buy a wig head to help the hair keep its shape- don’t be afraid to comb or restyle the hair.
  • Wash and condition the wig based brand directions - use warm to cool water, light conditioner, let air dry before combing.
  • Pick a style and color that is flattering and that you are COMFORTABLE wearing (BSL may be your ultimate length goal, but if BSL wig is going to make you self conscious pick another style).
  • Customize the WIG as much as possible- thin out the hair, shift the bangs, add some layers, change the part, etc. (you don’t want to look just like the mannequin)
  • Decide how to best attach the WIG – I personally just remove any combs and just wear WIG over my wig cap, but some use pins, sew in, or use tape or glue.
Ok ladies… I decided to wear full cap Instant Weaves until I reach my second length goal of APL since this seems to be a critical stage to prevent my ends.

Here is a how-to-guide of how to put on an Instant Weave.

Anybody else interested??????

I just brought a fall yesterday because it rained and frizzed my hair up something horrible. I was too busy to wash and re-set so I stopped at the BSS and picked out one. It's APL and beautiful!!! and my hair blends so well. Then, I went back today and got another shorter one (kind of self-concious about the length). I wore the APL to work and no one noticed until I said - "Look! This ain't my hair!!!" Even when I went back to the BSS, the lady thought it was my hair too. I'm in!!!
Gonna post pics soon!

Count me in too. I have one on now. Nice challenge, finally one I qualify for. I will post pics and reggie later.

I am in too. I wear a full cap human hair wig. My hair started thinning:( and so I am using a wig until my hair comes back to it's normal thickness. I am taking care of my hair better now because I don't have to worry about styling. I treat my wig like my hair with regular conditioning and air drying.

I'm not joining in this challenge b/c I've been wearing 1/2 wigs for the last 6 mos. and I'm sick of them for now!!

But I gained mad thickness and length while doing them, so good luck to all the ladies in this challenge.

One piece of advice for fall wearers: When I first started wearing them I noticed breakage where the combs were inserted so I started rubbing castor oil GENEROUSLY over the combs. NO breakage whatsoever, and those hairs are soft and thick.

:D Great Ladies!

I bought a 100% human hair wig in jet black - which is a new color for me. I'll post a photo soon.

I thinned it out a bit in the back and plan to wear it for a good 2 months.

I had a great growth spurt in March - don't know if it is the Viviscal, MTG, or just baggying 24/7!;)

I'm in, I'm in, sign me up! I just started wearing a wig again the past two weeks and I really believe it's the best thing for me to get the length I want. I'm natural and I have about 50% shrinkage so right now even though my hair's 5-6 inches, my twists look like 3 inches and I need more length before I can comfotably wear my twists in public. I also wear a wig cap and cut out the combs. Every other night I drench my hair in s-curl and baggy all of my hair. Every week or two I will poo/deep con and twist it up. I really want to stick to this, I did this for about two months last year and my hair grew a lot and it was so soft and healthy--this time though I gotta stick to it.

I am in.... I have been wearing half wigs, full wigs, and stocking cap wigs for nearly 5 years.

I use to try to blend my hair in with the wig or half wig to give it a more natural look. Now, I don't care anymore since so many people wear weave styles and wigs. Wearing "other people's hair" is a norm nowadays.

As long as it looks nice and neat I don't worry about what other people think because most people already know or don't care. Guys never give me a problem about wigs either.

I wear one everyday. I use to wear 1b or 1b/30 all the time. Now, I wear a #4 and I am loving the color. I never buy human hair wigs. I like synthetic wigs better. I usually can stretch a wig for up to 3 months before it gets out of control. I buy the yaki styles most of the time and I rarely buy the curly styles because they always look windblown and frizzy after a few days of wear. I prefer a neater look.

I may be a wig wearer for life. I have never bunned and never will as long as I can buy a wig.

***My advice don't sleep in your wig or get in a heavy make out session with someone and not take it off. That will immediately ruin your wig. :p

i'm in. I've been lacefronting it since december 06, and I want to see if i can last another 3 months.

My hair's grown great in the past 3 months, I'm at armpit in back, and i have about 3 inches until i reach brastrap....

You can see my lacefront in my siggy i think...

I just bought to 3/4 wigs and started wearing the 1st today...i will post sometime tonight and i will try the challenge as well...I have to admit tho it won't be for the whole 2007 year...I have to start off small...i will try thru the summer.

I'm in for a little bit...I am gonna make a nice curly stocking cap wig/weave....my hair grows goon under wigs b/c I can wash moisturize my real hair really good as often as necessary...

I freakin love instant weaves!!!!!!!
They are my latest discovery :yep:
so far I have a straight- armpit length one (and it looks so natural too)
*a really long one with layers (for time when I want to dress up/go out)
*wavy for times when I want to switch up my everyday style (I bantu set my hair that's left out to match the wavy fall)
*and curly one that has small drop curls- looks like a flexi rod set(I haven't worn this one yet though)

my real hair is getting a much needed break from wearing these, and it takes so little time to get ready and not much styling is involved when I wear falls.

Candy Thanks for the Castor Oil tip! My hair doesn't like castor oil but I believe that putting it on the wigs is going to be a tremendous help!

I am in for this challenge. I have 2 half wigs that I love. I usually twist my hair in the front and then braid the back. From there I will moisturize and seal my hair with oil and place a plastic cap over my hair. Then attach the wig and go. With this new fuller wig that I have I have pinned it up and go from there. I would love to try a human 1/2 wig but I am not feeling a full head wig because I am constantly tugging on it. I also find that wearing wigs allows me to play in my hair without conseqences. LOL

Right now I am natural and wanting to texlax but I feel that I can sport 1/2 wigs for a while until I am 100% sure about what I want to do. I will have a cheat on this challenge though, during my wedding in May I will not be sporting one, but when I get home that next day I will be sure to put it right back on.

Pictures coming soon!

Welcome Hopeful - I also cut out the combs, but I wear a silk night cap instead a nylon wig cap.

Thanks CurliDiva. Bet your hair loves that silk night cap, where do you get those from? Also, do you know where I can order a wig head thingy on-line? I can never find them at hairsisters wear I buy my wigs from.

Hi Aunty - are you telling me that I can get my freak on in my WIG! I plan to sew it on during my vacation and if I know I'm having a special "overnight" guest.;)

I agree that synthetic wigs hold up better - but I just bought my first 100% that is so pretty - prefect length and cut- that I could resist.

I get my wig heads and the silk cap from a local BSS (most have the small heads, but I found one shop that sells the long neck one for $3). The heads come in red or gray color.

Check the section that has the men skull caps and night bonnets - I don't think the package called it a wig cap, but I thought it would be better than the stocking (cotton) type. :)

Blackoutzangel - Congrats on your upcoming wedding!;)

I follow the same routine, but my only problem is that my products sometime leak from under the plastic cap. :perplexed I know that I'm heavy handed when applying my products.

I just posted my pictures of my 3/4 wig.....I got alot of complements today...people really thought this was my hair....even the people I work with everyday...either it looked really good and it shows you just how much people pay attention to you.....who knows:perplexed

This does lool like your REAL hair! :D

Is it human hair?

Count me in! I'm going to get natural full wigs though. This should be fun! I've never worn a wig before. I'm trying to leave my hair alone and gain some more length by my Bday in july. I'm not going to do the challenge for the whole year... Just until July....

I love your wig Eyunka, it looks like real hair! I would have never known the difference.:)

aaawwhhhh thanks Nantan...u know i thought i was cute today at work...couldn't tell me nuthin....

I don't blame you:D You wear it well. I'm going to wear one and swing it likes its grown directly from my own head and noone will be able to tell me different:lol:

Ok, count me in. I prefer this as my protective style b/c it requires no heat and my hair stays moisturized. I'll be wearing half wig as I already own 4.

Thank you curldiva! We are so blessed and ready to get it over with....I told my fiancee' last night that I was going to be wearing wigs, except for our wedding day, this year and he was like "okay" I know he is tired of hearing me talk about my hair LOL

For moisture I usually use my water/conditioner mix in the spray bottle and seal with my oil spray...However I am noticing that my roots are still feeling dry, so I am hearing so much about scurl that I am going to purchase that and try it to see how it works. I really concentrate on my roots since they tend to be "out" more when I am braiding up the back and then graze the braids and ends because they retain moisture better. But this new growth (current transitioner) is sucking up everything that I put in it. Any tips on that?!?!?
