Why do we have the water pictures?

winterinatl

All natural!
I've been a member for quite a while, but spend most of my time in the OT forum. I've noticed many siggies/fotkis with ladies whose hair is soaking wet, or even still under the running water (or not wrung out).

I just want to know is there a purpose behind this I might have missed? If it were a length shot wouldn't the purpose be defeated b/c your hair will not look the same length as dry? Is there another reason you all are taking them?

I am not being facetious.

I think these types of pics are to show length.

ETA...I think they take pics of soaking wet hair to show length as opposed to dry hair because when the hair is dry it shrinks up. So I guess the wet hair pics is showing "true length".

I like to see how long my hair is stretched...Mostly in fun.....especially if I need to a clue on my progress and I don't want to use heat...I'm also relaxed bone straight so there is not a big difference when completely wet and dry

I have 1 wet hair pic. The reason why I took that pic is because it was a starting point pic for a rollerset challenge I was in and right after I did the pic I began to put the rollers in my hair. You're right though, your hair is longer when it's wet. I think of it this way, if you're gonna take wet hair pics, fine. Just always take comparison pics of your hair when it's wet. The same if you do it on dry hair. extra inches (from growth) are extra inches wet or dry. Just be consistant with which type of pics you take.:yep:

ETA:: I just thought of something, when the ladies that are texlaxed and natural- especially if they airdry has to show length while wet- unless they wait until it's dry and pull a piece down to show length.

The only way I can even see my true length is soaking wet. My flat ironed hair in my siggy still has shrinkage.

Oh that is a good suggestion.

I don't really care either way. But when it's wet I can't see you all's pretty thickness! Water makes the hair look small :drunk:.

I see...b/c of the roots and such. And the water probably pushes down the "poof" factor a bit for naturals? Didn't think of that before.

I just thought it was another way to show the hair...ladies also show differents styles and hair toys, or maybe just the nape or edges, or whatever they are focusing on at the time...like wet hair. I don't think it's always about length...could be just a great hair shot. Foreheads seem to be the focus these days.

OT: JCoily...WOW!!!!!

I have a water picture in my fotki just to show what my hair looks like when it is freshly washed.

My length shots are taken when my hair is dry and flat-ironed.

For some it does...mine doesn't ...I love my hair in wet pictures

Wow Traycee... make me into a liar why don'tcha?? I stand corrected, you hair looks VERY thick. Even your ends look full. Hmm... I'm at a loss :ohwell: I need to get step my hair game up! My wet pic looks sad to say the least.. and of course my scraggly ends don't help:nono:

Wow indeed. off to view your album...but before I go..

JC I love the maxiglide picture, I've always wondered what your would look like straightened. :yep:

I can't speak for all naturals, but some naturals, like myself the true length does ont show while the hair is wet.

Some naturals' hair shrinks up as soon as water hits it...

Since I have been natural going on the 4th year, it does stretch in the shower, however, it stretches to my shoulders. My hair is about midback if I was to pull it. So showing a wet picture for me, only show coils and kinks in my hair, which I think are just as beautiful.

That fro is hot, ma!

I have wet hair pics in my Fotki, but it's only to show my texture (since I'm transitioning). I show my length in dry hair pics.

I don't use direct heat anymore (not since December 8). I am transitioning so the only way to see my length is with soaking wet hair. The second I step out of the shower it curls up.

I don't straighten my hair, so wet hair pics are just one way to show length...though my hair is still wavy under water.

Its a way to show length, can't use direct heat in the bootcamp challenge, but I can see my growth each month by comparing wet hair. My new growth doesn't stretch when wet, but I can see enough of a difference, including damage if any.
