Why do men think they can tell us what to do with our hair

I agree with everyone... He was rude! I'm glad you spoke up and didn't just laugh it off like some other women would have, and I'm glad your husband spoke up. Now I'm ganna have to ask my hubby what he would have done in this situation (he better have the right answer (lol)).

My hubby has always been honest with me about my hair and he loves the naturalness, the beauty in a natural women. He talks to women about they're natural hair. Like I said dude got other issues:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

He only had 2 naturals in the whole movie, one of them was a young girl and he let the weaved up relaxed talk down to her about her hair, I was pissed and he made it seem like the only way a black woman could have long hair is with weave. But the reason his daughter asked him why she didn't have good hair because his wife has a relaxer with weave they have no hair role model at home.

Last nite, the hubby's friend was over and he asked me what was I gonna to do my hair when I take my braids down? I asked him what did he mean. He says you're gonna relax it right? I said no I'm not. He says If you were my wife you would have to change your hair for me because I couldn't be seen with you in public. I told him "Well Thank GOD for small favors as I'm not your wife and no man is gonna tell how to wear what grows out of my head" He told hubby he didn't see how he could stand my nappy hair. He said he likes a woman with long straight neat hair. The nerve of some. I got up and went in my room before I called everything but a child of GOD:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

and i wouldn't want to be seen or associated with another ignorant, brainwashed black man so we'd both win. deuces. ♥

d@mn:nono::nono::nono:. thats sad, i feel my good mood droping. well i definitly dont want to see that movie cuz i would be yellin at the screen.:yep:. but back to the topic at hand...........when it comes to men and their opinions about our hair, we need to put our foot down and keep standing up for ourselves. we cant let them think they are winning this thing.

Maybe you should've told his fat a## that you like a man to look healthy and strong as to give the impression that he can protect you when needed, not fall over.

oh wow... yeah he would have had to go after those statements... seriously. What kind of nerve would it take for a man to feel like it's okay to say that to another man's wife... and think it's OK??! But props to hubby for handling it...

LOL @ fat creep....I don't know what it is with some men and their fascination with "long straight hair". I love your hair, I think it's beautiful!

Sad because some women share the same views on other women who wear their hair natural, I have heard terms thrown around like "nappy", "uncombed", and "unprofessional" whenever some women see other women with natural hair. I actually feel sorry for people who are so narrow-minded.

GG I've heard all of those things about my hair from other woman and I say "Thanks for noticing my beautiful Nappy hair" LOL:lachen::lachen:

I posted a thread recently about my own husband who doesn't like my natural hair. Before I have relaxed my hair for him when I was younger and dumber but now he can say whatever he wants and I am not changing for him. I don't like it when he has a bald head. Yeah he grew his hair out but I swear it wasn't for me he had to get compliments from other people before he stuck with it.

Don't get mad. That's just his ingrained self-hatred talking. Any BM that tells you he doesn't like nappy hair is messed up and confused.

Men think they can tell women what to do with their hair because most women try to shape themselves in the image of what a man wants. :lachen: I mean, there are plenty of threads around here on the same topic - where women are doing something/not doing something based largely on the impression it will give the men around them - so it's not like he was coming from so utterly off-base place.
:yep::yep::yep: yup and spoil it for the rest of us
