Who here washes INfrequently?

I will have to scratch off my name from the "frequent washer" list. I know it's not extremely healthy to try and go 2+ weeks without washing my hair, but I know this the pros of manipulating my hair very little will outway the con.

Does anyone else go 2+ weeks between washings, or know anyone who does?

Thanks, guys! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I used to wash 3-4 times/week but I noticed that when I get 7 weeks post relaxer I shed more. So now I wash 3-4 times/week up until my 7th week, then I wash 1 time/week until my touch up. (I know it's not every 2 weeks but it is a decrease)

I do. I was pretty faithful with the once a week, but this summer, it's been every 2 weeks. My hair's fine.

i dont wash when i have cornrows.. so then it's usually every 2.5-3 weeks. other than that.. im a very frequent washer.

Hey, Cici /images/graemlins/wave.gif

What do you do with your hair in-between washings. I'm actually trying to strive for every 3-4 weeks if possible.

I don't personally, but my mother goes 3+ weeks without washing her hair and always ends up with a ton of new growth. She never uses any heat but overprocesses her hair with a relaxer. Anyways, she believes less is more and when she leaves her hair alone it grows uncontrollably! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

yes when i used to wash my hair infrequently, my hair would grow out of control!!! People would comment on how fast my hair grew. But i cannot go long without washing because dandruff and it becomes itchy. Also my hair picks up smells and it would start to smell funny.

Yay!!! This is exactly what I want to hear /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ok, I will be honest here and say that before I knew what I know now about hair care, I went embarrassingly long amounts of time without washing my hair. Sometimes when I had braids, I would go as long as 6 or 8 weeks. So, yes, you can wash your hair infrequently and it will be fine. Especially if you're wearing some kind of protective style like braids. But, do I recommend waiting that long? NO! /images/graemlins/nono.gif It won't actually hurt your hair, it's just gross. /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I admit that I have gone that long myself while in braids. This will be my first time attempting to do so w/o them though. Maybe every so often, I'll use peppermint oil on my scalp to keep my hair smelling relatively fresh. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I used to wash my hair every 3-4 weeks before joining this forum and my hair was fine, no problems. I think Im gonna start jumping on the Washing Hair INfrequently Bandwagon...I can't deal with washing it so much these days...too busy and plus I think I have hard water. Anyone else out there want to hop on board???

Is that a challenge, Miss Poohbear.........are u challenging me? Oh, hell naw.

/images/graemlins/spinning.gif Yeah, I'm down. We'll support each other.

Well right now I wear my hair cornrowed under neath a wig. I use WGO and HHB on my hair to moisturize 2 x a week.

I used to wash my hair every 2weeks as well, but because of my itching scalp.. I have found that washing my hair more often has changed the condition of my hair..in a good way

I was washing twice a week, but now I'm going back to once a week, I think its optimum for me as I get the moisture and the cleanness, but its not so frequent that I lose hair from detangling.

Checking in- I've cut down the washing to only once a week and my hair has actually seemded to benefit from less manipulation. /images/graemlins/up.gif

I try not to wash my hair while wearing my braids-my 2 textured hair would start to curl and make the style fuzzy even in the first week of having it! I wash my hair every 3-4 weeks, depends on how long I have my braids in.

I think that I am going to extend my hair washing frequencies to 2 weeks. This hair can be such a hassle sometimes, I think I just need a break from the washing/manipulation not to mention the amount of time I have to invest into it. The scalp build up shouldn't be a problem because when I wash I make sure to scrath the surface well and get all of that dandruff out /images/graemlins/swordfight.gif

Yeah, I'm trying to aim for every 4 weeks/every month. How cool would it be to just have to wash and straighten my hair 12 times a year? Also, I think the less washing stops me from trying to "watch" my hair grow.

I'm wondering if I should do anything else. My plan was to only use rollers at night. I hadn't planned on retouching with heat, putting extra oils on my hair, nor greasing my scalp. Are ya'll doing anything extra in-between washings?

i think this too! /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif

I usually wash ever 5 to 7 days. However, after a fresh relaxer, I wait up to 2 weeks because I LOVE the texture and shine of my hair after a touch up at the salon.

I'm back to washing my hair less often. With it being so thick & coarse combined with having hard water, all that washing and detangling was destroying my hair & simply taking up too much time. Now have less flakes & my hair feels less dry.

Okay, I'm on to week 3!!! /images/graemlins/clap.gif

Yes, I know how gross this may sound, but trust me, I am doing my hair a very big favor. I don't mess with it half as much.....heck, not even 1/3 as much! /images/graemlins/shocked.gif
