Who actually likes their stylist? (spinoff)

It is really nice to see that there are still a lot of good stylists out there! :)

I did go to a guy a long while back that I do believe was a drug addict but MAAANNNNN could he do some hair! I wonder if there are a lot of drug addicted stylists out there? hmmmmm.....

You'd be surprised...

I love my stylist. she only uses quality products and she uses no (direct)heat (unless requested)! she roller wraps my hair and doesn't question me when I come in with all this new growth from streching relaxers. When I first came to her, she didnt use the relaxer that I wanted so she bought a Mizani especially for me.

She did try me once though. When I first came to her and requested Mizani she went on about how she loves Nairobi and was going on about how good it straightens but is less damaging. I told her that I still wanted to use Mizani, so she bought a tub to use for me.

Well one day when I came for a touch up she was just doing her thing and when she was finished I commented on how straight it was compared to the last time. She was like thats because I used Nairobi on you this time. I am like WTH:mad:, she didnt ask me and knows that I specifically requested Mizani to be used on my hair! I didnt say anything though b/c my hair was looking good. :perplexed

So, I still love my stylist (and I will probably be using Nairobi from now on :look: ), but I think for a lot of them it is just in their nature to try to do whatever they think is best for your hair because they consider themselves the specialists on the matter.

I love my stylist. Even when I stopped going to her b/c I was going the natural route, she was still nice. And when I decided to relax again, I knew she was the only person I could trust. I told her I wanted to keep my length and she honored that. And, if I don't want heat, she won't use it. She absolutely hates using spritz and holding spray, which is something else I love about her. My stylist rocks!!!

I like both of my last stylists. My very last one gave me the relaxer that I currently don't want any more, but that is not her fault. She did a good job and was a great stylist. She also a good job waxing my eyebrows.

My hair stylist before that was a West Indian lady (actually so was my other one. In Alaska! Both of them were military wives), who was the best, fastest braider I've ever known. She was kind of rough on my head, and she HATED that I had natural hair at the time. I was about to move to VA at the time and she kept telling me that no stylist down south would tolerate my hair. But the more I went to her, the more she eased up
and I liked her a lot.

I know three stylist that I love. One is on this board and she is very careful when applying relaxers and does an excellent curly roller set. There was one here in greensboro that I went to for a while and I only really stopped going because she was a little too scissor happy. She did great styles and the whole shop was extremely nice.

oooooh, meeeeeeeeeee! i do!

just this winter i was downtown waiting on the bus, and i just happened to notice this cute guy. he looked biracial but i won't assume cuz i hate when people assume i'm "mixed with something" :look: but he had 3B curls, literally the size of a big fat piece of sidewalk chalk. and the way his hair was cut just looked fabulous - it had the perfect shape, wasn't too long but long enough that you could see it was curly. so after staring for a few minutes  i got brave and asked him where he got his haircut. he gave me the number to WIP Downtown (Indianapolis) and i called to set up an appointment. (this was right before SuperBowl weekend, i remember because the salon was offering free temporary blue color to anyone who got a wash and set or cut and EVERYONE IN THE CITY wanted to support the Colts. :woot: )

anyway... the stylist i met that day was born in Atlanta and lived in California for awhile, and she swore up and down she knew almost everything there is to know about black hair whether it was natural or relaxed. at first i was skeptical, but the first thing she told me was that my hair was a lot like her daughter's hair... and then as she started doing my hair, i watched what she was doing and listened to what she was saying. the only "bad" thing she did was trying to comb my hair from the roots first instead of the ends. i politely told her my hair tangles/shrinks up most at the ends and it would be easier to start from there, she did it immediately and even remarked, "yeah you're right, this is much easier!" she was very friendly, and everything else she did was on point. and she gave me the best layers ever... my hair looks great natural, picked out or flat ironed.

needless to say, i left her a huge tip... and i will be going back to see her in May for a trim/shape up.

I like my stylist OK.

I just have ahard time seeing myself going to him anymore due to price and his rough treatment of my hair. It almost seems like he is extra rough with it since I only relax my hair seasonly and not monthly. Not to mention I am not feeling this a la carte hair care pricing thing. I might as well do it myself.

One of my braiders who was post rehab said that ALL braiders do coke to stay up through those long monotonous braiding sessions. I'm sure she was exaggerating by saying all, but I'm sure it's a whole lot more than we as customers/clients realize.

Hey, ladies!

I love my stylist! I have been going to her for about two years now, and she nursed my hair back to health from...well, I really don't know what the h*** was wrong with my hair, but it just didn't look thick, shiny and manageable like it had been.

She uses Mizani lye relaxer (regular strength) on my hair and never leaves it on too long.

She understand that I am trying to get and maintain healthiness so that it will grow, and that hair has to be taken care of on the inside AND the outside. In fact, she was the first to turn me on to biotin. She understands that I don't want it wacked off, and only trims a little bit. She thought that I had a lot of good growth when I stretched 8 weeks (I know that's nothing for all you three plus month stretchers, but I ain't there yet!

She is a keeper. The salon is called Hyder & Hill, and is in Austin, Texas.

HTH!

I have to say that since I've relaxed my hair again in 2005 I haven't find a good hair stylist. I'm still looking, so if anyone knows anyone is the East side of Toronto let me know
